Arithmetic problem from 1914

The 1914 newspaper said this riddle has been known to stump college professors, but that seems unlikely because I got the correct answer quickly. You can do it in your head or on paper, but remember--they didn't have calculators in 1914! (You won't need one anyway.)

"If a third of six were three,
What would a fourth of twenty be?"
