Women Pay More...............

Anyone else see this on Anderson Cooper today?

Women are being charged more for a "Women's" product when the men are getting the same thing for less.
I might just have to buy men's products since they are almost identical.
What gets me is places like the dry cleaners, they charge men a lower price for their pants/shirts and a higher price for ladies pants/shirts just because it's for a women.

We need to start paying more attention to prices. Or ask for a price sheet an compare.

have known for years that women pay to have a busniess suit tailored , while men get it for free! not right at all!

It's always been like that. A pair of jeans are cheaper for men than women. Often hair cuts are cheaper for men, even if a woman likes hers cut short.....no different than cutting a man's head.

Vernonia, (Disclaimer here, this is based on my personal observations only!) Believe it or not, I would have to break it down by married vs. single for the most debt. Married women (or recently separated women) carry more revolving debt than single women. Single men carry more revolving debt than married men. Overall, if I had to break it down, sorry to say, the ladies have the worse track record for having credit card debt. That said, the ones I am really worried about are the folks that are cashing out the equity in their homes to payoff credit card debt, then do not destroy their credit cards....and rack them back up again. Bankruptcy laws are being changed, and it won't be long before these folks won't be able to walk away from their debt and will be forced into a restructure of debt. In this case, rightfully so. It's the families with the medical catastrophe that will never be able to recover, which is sad. (sorry, leaving soapbox now). Suz

beaglesdoitbetter - 40% of my income would be somewhat of an improvement from the online calculators which I think are calculating 28%. For construction/morgage loans, is that how a co-signer works? Their income is added into mine to calculate the monthly payment/total loan amount? I have 3 family members that have already volunteered to be co-signers. I know this is typically not recommended to sustain relationships, but I've had excellent experiences with them in the past. One family member helped me pay my way through college and I paid her back immediately after graduation. The others I've loaned money to and had it back within a few months. beeps - At the moment I'm not actually paying the extra 2k a month on the land, it's just being saved. That way I can collect interest on it until I'm ready to pay it off completely. The loan isn't one that would save interest if I paid more per month, the interest has been added in a flat number for the extent of the loan, so as long as I pay it off early, I still save the interest, but it doesn't make a difference whether I do it in one lump sum or over several months. My retirement is already being taken care of through auto-deductions at work that I've set up. My payment calculations are based on what I bring home. When my husband and I married, I brought one young child into the marriage and he brought 3 older ones, although one left after eight months to go to university. We bought a 5 bedroom home together, 50/50. During the years that we were together, his two kids lived with us about 80% of the time, and my daughter was with us about 60% of the time. We split all the household costs, vacations etc. For several years, I made more money, so I bought most of the groceries and all the clothes for the entire family. I also paid for some of his kids' activities. When my income dropped below his, I asked him to contribute to the groceries, and take over the costs of his kids' clothes (although I still bought some). In retrospect, I am glad that we shared the house price 50/50 because a house is an investment that can be recovered. However, I do have some resentment over having paid a greater amount of the other costs. I could use that money now that I am separated to build a better life for myself and my daughter, and his kids aren't the least bit grateful for the wonderful life that they had when we were together. Of course, I'd probably feel differently if my husband had gotten his kids under control, and the marriage had survived.

Interesting topic. As a solar installer, many of our customers seem to care about the environment, but all of the homes we close are on projects that make economic sense and green sense. The word "sustainable" needs to be both economically sustainable and environmentally, IMO.

One thing that really gets to me also is that the quality of some fabrics on things like T shirts are so much better on mens shirts....the collared Izod type shirts are a world of difference....If I want new t shirts. I go to the mens dept and buy my T's...

Like the Bic pen for her - 30% more but it comes in pink!!!!
A few years back a local reporter went in with her husband to get her haircut. She requested the same cut as him, his $20, hers $45. No blow out or wash.

(Men're willing to wear their clothes till they fall off, not follow the latest fashion, resulting in their wearing one item only a half dozen times or so.)

My DH can get quicker and fast responses from our doctors offices than I can! When kids were in school sometimes he would have to go in and deal with things, because they ignored me;( Car mechanics respond better to men also! I could go on and on!!

It really is a man's world at times!!!

But......men pay more to have items replaced, while women ask questions and have them repaired.

My DH just called, said his boss replaced his whole engine when the oil sending unit went bad.....a $25 part! Yes....I'm serious.....

DH took the alternator in to 3 different places, they all told him it was bad....to replace it, ($120). I took it to an expert, he teaches automotive @ the local college.......it was just a $5 alternator belt. That fixed it.

I have known that for years. My shaver is a mens, my shaving cream is mens, I buy mens golf shirts, and mens jeans for me! Savings for me. ;)

I told hubby just today that I'm going to start looking at men's jeans. Not only is ours more expensive but I go crazy finding them to fit me. No 2 jeans are the same, in the same size. The fit is always different.

Hi OJ. You men have it easy. Hubby's jeans all fit him, no matter the make. He doesn't try them on, he knows that they will fit.

But we woman go crazy trying to find the right fit in whatever size. We can have 2 different sizes and they both might fit.

We were in a store looking at some yoga pants. Simple yoga pants (track pants type pant). He held up the waist of 2 the same size. One was a good inch or two wider than the other. Geesh.

I was in my local big name pharmacy and noticed the shaving cream "for her" in a pink can costs more than regular shave cream.

(yawn) Wah!

Well OJ, remember who winds up footing the bill for a lot of the women's overpayments. I'm reminded of the old saying a woman's work is never done.... since the invention of the television!

Been that way as far back as I can remember. I am surprised AC thinks that is something new!
Haircuts, dry cleaning, clothing prices.... nothing has changed.

It's not some social injustice or gender bias. It's basic economics. The manufacturers/stores calculate exactly what people are willing to pay and that is what they charge. Not a penny more or nobody would buy it and they would not make any money. Men have been shown that they won't pay over a certain price for some items, while women often will.

So the fault is with the people who continue to buy overpriced stuff. There are always alternatives.
