Morning.. Joke for the day (ps my mother sent me this) ROSES & HANGING BASKETS A teenage granddaughter comes downstairs for her date with this see-through blouse on and no bra. Her grandmother just pitched a fit, telling her not to dare go out like that! The teenager tells her 'Loosen up Grams. These are modern times. You gotta let your rose buds show!' and out she goes. The next day the teenager comes down stairs, and the grandmother is sitting there with no top on. The teenager wants to die. She explains to her grandmother that she has friends coming over and that it is just not appropriate.... The grandmother says, 'Loosen up, Sweetie. If you can show off your rose buds, then I can display my hanging baskets. Happy Gardening.

I'm a language teacher so I absolutely love this thread, ya'll! (I'm from coastal SC) The thing that I think is most interesting linguistically about some parts of the South is the use of double modals. "might could" "maybe would" "might would", etc. Now that my grandparents and parents have passed away it amuses me when I hear myself say something I grew up hearing them say. Some examples are: "Goodness gracious" or "Gracious day" or "goodness gracious day" if you're really shocked. or "well, I swany" (not sure how to spell that since don't believe it's actually a word!) "aint you a sight for sore eyes" -good to see you "older than dirt" "hissy fit" - for tantrum "tater rows"- dirty neck on a child "pepsi and a nab"- a soda and a pack of crackers (like lance) "who's your people?" - who are your parents/grandparents/etc. Oh, and if it's raining while the suns shining that means "the devil is beating his wife" and as a parting, "ya'll come to the house"

After 10 years of Direct TV and Dish prior, I opted out of all due to the ongoing increase in cost. $10 for local channels, 10 each for 2 recievers, and whatever else is added. It came to 90+. I now have an HD antenna on the roof, TIVO at $12 a month. It works great for me, but I'm not far from the towers. One local channel is still having a problem once in a while which has nothing to do with where I'm located. Also, I connected the PC to the reciever and stream movies or TV shows free. The streaming has become a large base, a couple of the sites will show when the new shows are ready. Or you can go direct to the TV station site. I watch anything now that once was DTV and all free with only short blip commericals. Even Showtime streams their latest at no charge. I have to be patient though as the shows are available a week late. You wouldn't "have" to have TIVO or an antenna since the shows aren't coming in for you. Just be aware that DTV will upcharge and continue when that year is over. I just got sick of paying so much for all and it seemed like 90% wasn't even of interest. Sat is a toss up with cable unless the cable is in ground. It wasn't unusual to be tramping through the snow to clear off of dish. Cable was a problem with wind since it was stretched from a telephone pole to the house.

Mine is a Palm TX - top of the line (ie, last model they've made). It's normally $300, but I got mine second-hand from a seller on Amazon for half-price. :-) You can get a lesser one though and still get all the alarms...I installed a calendar program called Datebk6 that works with the native (already there) databases, but is a much more "robust" program for scheduling and such. It shows my "To Do" list right in my calendar (instead of just separately with the reg. to do's), and has this cool tool called "floating events" that you create, and they just keep floating from one day to the next until you check them off. Nice for things that I don't really have time scheduled for, but I want to get them done if I do have time. The "normal" palm apps don't let you set separate alarm sounds for calendar events, but this Datebk program does (it costs just under $30 to register, but will still work even if you never register it - it just starts "nagging" you to register after 45 days). I do plan to register it next month. Then I downloaded the sound files as one program for free to add on. You can color-code events, set repeating events for almost any day/week/month combination, and set templates so you don't have to enter the same event over and over if it occurs again, but not enough to be repeating. And of course it has catagories and you can set up separate calendars for separate people, etc. - kind of as complex or as simple as you want it to be. You can download earlier versions if you want smaller files to fit on something simpler like a Z22. I guess the T models run the latest version just fine though. If you wanted a "smartphone", Palm makes several of those too - you could go to thier web site and see if anything interests you. Handspring pda's come with the Palm OS too, if I recall correctly. Datebk does make a version for Pocket Pc's as well, so all that to say that you'll be able to run it on pretty much anything you buy. It's pretty much guaranteed to work on any mobile device, because it uses those built-in databases already installed. And now I sound like a commercial, so I'll shut up (and no, I have no monetary interest in any of the aforementioned companies, aside from what *I* am paying/have paid *them*). :-)
