Cleaning Done ....... Visitors Enroute

Finally, an over-abundance of cleaning has made the castle presentable for guests. No, I'm not a spotless, sterile clean freak. A home has to look lived in. Some superb weather also permitted outdoor time to get the yard cleaned up. Might get in some partial rest during the waiting period. Today's "feast" will be quick and simple whenever its ready. Did bake a cake this morning. Temps are rising nicely, and it would be awesome to sneak in a beach visit today.
They are enroute, somewhere, perhaps at an airport during the boring in-between flights. I'll check later to make sure the last leg has departed and should arrive on schedule. Also try to pick them up with a flight tracker and monitor the airborne location. Actual arrival here won't be til Monday afternoon. That's a long time.
Looks like everyone has realized that vacation prices dropped dramatically after Easter, and are looking for that escape. Sites are busy, and slow. Found deals to 2 places, trying to find the best flights now.
Let the parties begin.

Enjoy your fun in the sun! It's been about three years since my toes enjoyed the cold and invigorating sand of an Atlantic beach.

Warm and sunny would be great too, but any salt-water and sand makes me happy. Throw in fresh steamed Maryland Blue Crabs and I'm in Heaven!

Toni, the ants are usually crowded inside the nests but "pour out" if the nest's disturbed in any way. It's a good trick to always be in the lead when hiking here. The first person to brush past a nest gets them out and the next person brushing past gets covered in them. It's funny watching someone desperately trying to get a backpack off along with clothing to get rid of the ants. I've provided that sort of "amusement" many times for my walking companions, as they have for me. No one really takes it seriously, apart from the ants. I don't keep any plants indoors at home, they stay out all year. But no matter how much you try, there's always all sorts of bugs and spiders getting into the house, they don't wait for transportation by pot plants. A lot of spiders live in the soil, some near the surface but others burrow deeper. Generally I don't worry about them, I'm more interested in what they are rather than where they are. Over the years I've found spiders, scorpions and centipedes in my bed, but I just evict them. They can go buy their own bed, LOL. Horti, that's interesting about the Harvester Butterfly. Butterflies aren't usually associated with being carnivores, but yet there are are dining quietly away. What happens when one visitor to the garden meets another visitor to the garden?

That's a great photo of your baby crow, Marg. Sharon, butterfly looks like it is the Northern Pearl Crescent. Thanks. I googled some other photos and the colors were a bit brighter than on the Alberta Insect site. I think the ladybug is the Three-banded lady beetle, though. Raccoons - the unwelcome visitor

Please folks, don't be naive and lose a precious pet to a raccoon. I live in very urban Sherman Oaks, CA, but have a huge yard with trees and grapevines bursting with delicious fruit. Raccoons come in summer and decimate the fruit. Recently, raccoons brutally killed 2 cats in 2 weeks. They disembowel and eat the intestines while the cat is still alive. It's unbelieveably horrible. One cat was a feral I've been feeding for a year, and the other was a beloved pet I raised from a kitten. I used to let him out sometimes during the day to commune with nature, but thought I was keeping him safe by bringing him in before dark with my other 4 cats. Some evenings, cat is playful and won't want to come in right away. That night I left for a few hrs. to deal with a med emergency... I don't when the cat was killed, but it was traumatic to discover him mauled. In reading the internet, it seems raccoons can be active in the daytime, too, especially if they are hungry or rabid. I did not know that. I will never let my cats out of the house again. I would never put them in danger of such a truly brutal death.

one bird i would not recommend to start feeding, we innocently did in rocky as we where then putting seed out for other birds, we only fed once a day all other birds where satisfied with that. but not these vandals 1 pair turned into 40 and the racquet and we ended up being bad neighbours then and when they wolfed all the seed and chased other competiors away so they could the tore up the grass looking for any missed morsel and when they couldn't find any they then destroyed orchids and broms we had attached to trees, plus clipped all the growing tips of most of the tall trees. especially the neighbours gums and to say he was impressed was an understatement he didn't want the tree damage nor the clean up of all those branches. took a lot to discourage them but discourage them we did. also fell into the trap of letting the odd white ibis join in well that's another story. len mail len lens garden page

Have fun! My sister was in town for the last couple of days and I Haven't seen her for about a year. So much fun to be able to give her a hug and talk to her in person.

Atlantic? Nein! Our location is sodium free. Lots of happy faces down at the sunny beach. Cold beer and warm sand. Guess I better frizzle up some food. The champagne cork has been removed. Ha, forgot about mega time change, so will check flight location in the morning. Bro only gets here every 7-10 years.

yikes! that's sounding like a 36 hour flight or something... coming from the other side of the world?! Enjoy your company!

Have fun! I'm glad we're all done. And that cleaning was up to mom. She even found time to plant pretty spring flowers.

Ack! It's clouding up -- but still could be warm enough for a beach jaunt sometime during the visit. The Tribune says this was the warmest Easter in three decades. *I* say it's About Time We Got Some Spring.

Enjoy your company and your clean house. I had book club here this morning so I spent all last night cleaning. I enjoy the tidy house when it's all done.

Weary travelers have arrived. Good to see them both again. Picked up their location over US airspace this morning at work. Grabbed a pizza from our favorite high school hangout joint to compliment cold beers. They went to BED! A little rest and adjustment to the time will help. Looks like some cooler days ahead, no beach.

All is great. Brrrr, coming from 40C to 0C is not the best, guests are cold. Even 'normal' temp would be nice. Happy Hour always on schedule.
