Does anyone on the KT own (and use) a fitbit?

Yes, I do. Our company offers a discount on them and sponsors several physical activity competitions for it's employees (ie 10,000 steps a day).

I got one and have started to use it, but am not all that proficient with it. It's interesting to see how many steps a day I take without realizing it.

You clip it onto a pocket and it stays secure all day. Register online and it will read your daily information into the website and you can see a number of statistics on your daily activity.

It's really quite cool!

I have the fitbit flex. It is worn like a watch. It is fun to see how much I walk each day. I bought it for the sleep function but I've found that it is not accurate for sleep.

Let me know if anyone wants to trade their extra small strap for my extra large one!!!!

Olliesmom, The fitbit one is very simple and doesn't require any set up. I think the fuel band, like the fitbit, will show you the info (steps, stairs, calories burned) right on the gizmo but to get the most data you do need to sync it to a smartphone or computer. With either device you can just put it on and go but why pay for the technology if you're not interested in that part? The Fuelband is $149 and the fitbit one is $100. There is a simpler fitbit for about $60, it takes a watch battery and does not record sleep. You might be content with just a basic pedometer. I used to have a digiwalker basic unit that only ran about $25. After a few years the clip would break and I'd end up replacing the clip and battery. They offer many different devices with various price points. Maybe those are more what you have in mind. I did find my basic, steps only device motivating for many years. Even paying for replacement batteries and clips, it was a lot less money than the fitbit. But I do get a kick out of my graphs and weekly email reports with my fitbit.

I use the One from Fitbit. I like it because it is less obtrusive. I do use a Polar heart rate monitor for my workouts like Spin class and weights. I seriously thought about the Surge, but I don't want to wear the watch all the time. As far as accuracy, they are all pretty good but none are perfect. They tend to pick up walking and jogging type of activities better. The wrist ones are a little better for weight training but overall. I do a lab with the students with different types of trackers. I compare the ones I've had for a few years for research purposes with a simple pedometer, but many of them have their own. One student has the Apple watch which also tracks steps. I've taken my One cross country--remember to remove it for airport security screening, but a few weeks back I finally lost it for good when we went to the theatre. Yes, I called twice and emailed but no luck. I've "lost" it several times but have always found it by calling the place or by trying to sync it with my phone. I contacted Fitbit and they gave me 25% off a new one. Often times they will replace it for free if it's within a short period. BTW, all the Fitbits are onsale about 25% off through Monday the 30th. Like new year's resolutions, most people stop wearing their tracker after about 3 months.

Fitbit Charge and Charge HR will track all the stuff the Flex does but with a more intuitive display. The band in the Flex and Charge has an odd connector, which a lot of folks complain about. I had the Charge and didn't have problems with the connector. The Charge (without HR) is a little cheaper and has the odd snap connector like the Flex. The Charge HR has a watch band type connector and is more secure and is worth the extra $20. The Charge and Charge HR are probably best for your FIL. Having said all that, there have been some quality issues with the bands. Peeling, separating, etc are reported within 24 months of ownership. I have the FitBit Surge and really like it but it's more than what he needs. It has independent GPS tracking (which means I don't have to bring my phone with me) and is useful for running, walking, biking and other activity tracking. I used to have the Charge but the band broke so I returned it and replaced with the Surge. I've had the Surge since Feb and FitBit has already replaced it once due to band peeling. There are many different devices out there. I like my FitBit but there are things I don't like about it.....which is probably going to happen with any product you choose.

Nope. It's been 6 days now. It's freezing cold. I went to the nearest little pond, thinking it could at least get water and it was frozen solid. I asked everyone I saw on the trails where they'd come from...no one had seen it. I've found lost pets before. I'll bet it's half way across town by now. I also checked the Humane Society lists, nada. CL, nada. 5,000 steps is FANTASTIC! That's an active day!

I got a fitbit one free through a work program in February and we bought one for my husband at the same time. We have both used them every day since. He already put in a lot of steps (13,000 - 18,000) a day at work, and has increased steps outside of work. I was putting in an amazingly small number of steps before fitbit, as I work at a desk in my home office, so could end a work day with

I also have one. I have the ultra and clip it on my bra.
I do not use for sleep tracking.
I wear it every day and try to get at least 7,000 steps
I find the stair counter on mine to be fairly accurate. I try to walk 30 flights on my lunch break. It may be off 1 or 2, but it seems consistent.
If I was buying today I would get the force. I *believe (I have to go check now) it syncs wirelessly. I would love to have that feature as it pairs with My Fitness Pal to track both diet and exercise.
Wearing on my bra makes it inconvenient to check and sync. (lol!)

It is not a wristband but a clip on, but what I have done (because I didn't find it handy clipped on my bra either) was to clip it on a sturdy chain (one that I have a medic alert tag on) around my neck. The chain is about 20-22 inches long and it works perfectly. Sometimes I don't even remember to take it off at night, but if I do, then all I need to do in the morning is slip it over my head again!

HMM my older DD and all of her running pals have them, my grandson has one also~~~they love it. I have some Amazon bucks I need to spend and wonder if maybe I should invest in one! I am turning into a hermit and a lazy a**~~~maybe it would motivate me to get out and about and rack up some steps or would it go on the wayside as my MP3 player I could never figure out. I only use my Ipod nano for music can not figure out anything else on it???

I had the clip on one when it first came out, until I dropped it in the toilet. It did spur me on to increase my already active life. I think a cheap pedometer would do the same. Mind synched wirelessly and then they sent you emails about goals and awards you would receive for increased activity. But if you want to save 100.00, just get a 5.00 pedometer, just my opinion.
