I like all kinds of tea--black, green, herb, etc. The best "regular" (black) tea I ever had was a gift from a friend who took a trip to Sri Lanka. This is what he brought back for me.

I was happy to find it on eBay, and recently ordered from another seller who is out of stock at this time. It was shipped quickly from Sri Lanka. It's loose tea, but it's easy enough to buy a stainless steel tea infuser from the dollar store.

How I wish that I could still drink tea! I can still smell the fragrance of good, fresh tea. I still have my 'accoutrements', stashed in the pantry for that day when a cup of tea won't upset my tummy.

So, what makes this tea special in your opinion? You have a very interested audience....though I can't drink it anymore, I do give special teas as gifts.

teengardener1888, I just heard you could do it with kafir lime a while ago and so I tried out eating some of my persian lime leaves. I've also eaten the blooms. I haven't heard that you cannot eat these leaves so I imagine its okay. I don't see how it could hurt you and it actually seems to take my nausea away and allow me to drink black tea. The persian lime has a minty taste with a tiny bit of lime taste and is a little bit sour, but not 'bad' sour, or 'tastes like poison' sour, just sour like a grapefruit. The meyer lemon tastes the same but is not nearly as potent. I just described what the older foliage tastes like. The newer foliage growth has a tender nutty texture and tastes extra minty. Maybe about 5x more minty. It's cool because you can eat the stem and even the thorns as they are still soft. They too are very minty and nutty tasting. They really are quite delicious. My lime trees worst enemy is my tummy! o.o ... I hear kafir lime leaves taste like lime but are much much more stronger and also have a great aroma. I like to nibble on the leaves like one might chew on gum. A few days ago it was sunny out so I had the citruses on the balcony. It was nice to sit in the sun and reach over and grab a leaf from the tree and eat it. It's what makes this all worth it. They can also be added to soups. Today I added 3 lemon leaves to my vegetable soup today. It's more of a 'just because I can' thing but its nice to be able to do. When you grow your own stuff you tend to enjoy it more. Thanks Ingrid! I have never grown a lavender rose well. Don't know why that is. Several friends have given me Angel Face - and they died, despite loving care. I saw Sweetness in a friend's garden last year and got it - the gophers ate one, and the other two are miserable and weak. I am too terrified even to try Sterling Silver - all of these modern. Jeri and Clay gave me a Forest Ranch Pom Pom which does well - but that's not lavender. On the yellow front - Charles Darwin has never been happy here - and I'm going to try to coax him along this year with "spa treatment". Thanks again.

It was snowing here yesterday too, but looks like it all melted this morning! Hope your lavenders pull through. Are they all Hidcotes? If you do a scratch test (scratch the older wood with your fingernail) and see green you will know they are still living. Last year, when I moved my big lavender plant, I took a couple of cuttings just in case. I was surprised how well they did, considering these were my first attempts at propagation from cuttings and working with rooting hormone. Maybe you could try some too? In case one of your plants ever ends up dying out you would have a nice replacement. ;-) Lol! Not sure there is any more room for roses! In fact, I was looking up how big 'The Dark Lady' rose I have is going to get. Poor thing, I may have to move it again if it outgrows its space (should have thought of this before, I know!). Crossing my fingers that it will stay the 3-4ft around and not get too much bigger! CMK

Let's see,san, does fish and chips and Pub food count?? When we go to another country, we love to try the local foods so lamb was excellent and this "non-fish" lover really enjoyed the fish there. We had cod, halibut, haddock, swordfish, shrimp, mussels, etc. etc. etc. My husband even tried the black pudding and said it was very tasty. We certainly enjoyed the Bed and Breakfasts that we stayed at and I can honestly say we didn't have a bad meal. Enjoyed the tea and scones and did all of the tourist things as well as some things that we just wanted to do. Went to Kylemore Abbey, PowerCourt Gardens, the Botanic gardens in two different cities, even spent a day in Belfast. For me though, the highlight of the trip was meeting a Rosarian/hybridizer that I have been emailing with for several years, sharing a bottle of wine with him and his lovely wife and enjoying the tea she graciously made for us. We really did enjoy the people we met and even plan to visit a German couple we met in Cardiff and look forward to hearing from a young lady who will soon be married in Russia-she waited on us in London and was a real sweetie. My husband and I were holding hands on the table and she came over and asked if we would mind telling her how long we had been married. So, now I look forward to her email telling me that she has married too. Great trip and thanks for the congratulations on our anniversary.

I don't mean to present myself as a tea connoisseur; I'm really not. In fact, I drink "real" tea only occasionally because I don't do well with caffeine.

To me, the Sri Lankan tea just tastes like really good tea. It's not flavored in any way; it's just one particular variety of tea, as far as I know. Taste is such a subjective thing . . . you might not feel the same way about it.

Ellen, I grew up drinking Red Rose tea from Canada. My Scottish relatives preferred it.

Rhizo, several Sri Lankan sellers offer teas on eBay. The one I purchased from sells several varieties from that same company, in different colored boxes. Here's an example, although they're apparently out of Nuwara Eliya right now. I'm amused at the name of the seller:

I usually just drink regular teabag tea, no particular brand. My MIL makes crocks of tea from loose leaf, but she puts soooo much sugar in it I haven't had a cup in probably a decade.

Anyhow, one flavored tea that I like is Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice. Absolutely love it.

Right now I'm drinking Irish Breakfast Tea from Trader Joe's. I also like Bigelow's English Breakfast but they seem to have dropped their 100 count box and replaced with a 50 for the same money.

We have a big Hong Kong Market here in Houston which has one entire long aisle that is nothing but various kinds of teas. Bags, loose every kind and variety that you an imagine.
I love iced tea but am not a big hot tea drinker.
They even had the bitter melon tea, I bought some to try since it is said to be good for diabetics. But it is very, well bitter. I can use a couple bags mixed with other good flavored teas and kind of hide the bitter.
My neighbor is a hot tea drinker and I am going to take her to the HK Market and watch her try to make decisions. She will love it.
They also have an aisle of different types of salts, all kinds of colors and textures and from various countries. I am a salt nut so I love trying various ones. Some in bags like sugar but clear so you can see the color and textures. When I boil the peanuts I also get there I buy a bag of their coarse texture salt to use.
I need to make a trip there soon I need some boiled peanuts.

we drink tea mostly green all the time...but my fave (esp as I can't take tums. ect) is peppermint...and found a good evening sip...use sugar free creamer (about a tsp or so) and the peppermint...it's like a dessert....

I drink ice tea year round, constantly have a glass in my hand or near by. My very favorite tea is Royal Cup Tea. I order if from their web site. You can get 1 gallon bags or loose tea. I buy the loose, I get 40-4oz bags of loose tea in a case. It is the most delicious tea that is a deep red in color and never ever gets cloudy. Cracker Barrel and Chic-fil-A serve Royal Cup Tea, I'm not sure what other restaurants serve it. It's my tea of choice for sure. If I call in the order they always give me free shipping too.

My DH makes us both a mug of tea every evening. We like Earl Grey or Constant Comet.

I do own a metal tea ball....occasionally I buy loose sassafras.

I have 2 cups of green tea every morning,but during the day I drink lots of other flavors,i have one shelf in my cabinet that's just for teas.

I think my favorite is The original Good Earth,sweet and spicy.I like them both hot or cold.
