Who introduced automobile assembly-line production?

A: It was not Henry Ford. "Ransom E. Olds", father of the Oldsmobile, introduced the automobile assembly-line technique to the U.S. in 1901. In doing so, he increased automobile production from 425 vehicles in 1901 to over 2,500 in 1902.

Ford contributed modifications, including the conveyor belt system, which reduced the time it took to build a Model T from 1 1/2 days to 90 minutes. Sidenote: The assembly line concept itself was first used by Eli Whitney to manufacture guns during the US Civil War.

Is now the time for my mercedes-benz? And my other guess is, for the German army. I'm a gearhead and didn't yesterday's right. So is dees and she didn't get it right. Wonder if either of us is right today?

Yesterday's question kind of threw me for a loop. There were auto manufacturers that used assembly line processes before Ford and I knew Ransom Olds did. I took the term literally and thought maybe the answer was supposed to identify the person who thought up the process. No worries.....

I know the Volkswagen was created in Germany and that Hitler was involved in the design. I'm probably wrong but sticking with my answer.

Volkswagen wasn't founded until 1937...

You're right chloecat, it wasn't in full production under that name, but the cars were still called Volkswagen bugs and even as early as 1931. I did go look up the name of the maker afterwards... (I am only 1/2 or 3/4 right depending on how you look at it).

Ok with all these hints I'll guess either Benz or Mercedes. ;)

My sister drives a vintage volkswagen and my nephew restores them. I'll ask them.

I'm always late to this party - I think cause I'm on the west coast and don't sign on until I'm home from my run or the gym but I try to answer/come up with a decent guess, before scrolling down.
