Who buys clothing fron the shopping channel

Was watching the shopping channel last night, they were selling clothing.

I can't imagine buying clothing without trying it on, what looks good on the hanger may not look good on you. Also the sizing, all sizes are different .

Some of the colours and patterns of the clothing were blinding to look at.

As you can tell I would not buy clothing from the shopping channel.

My SIL is addicted to QVC. She has it on 24/7. Some if the things she buys are unusual, like certain crockery, but at her (and my) how much of this do we really need.

Some if the items are designers that are well know, but she insists that others are actually made by well know designers with a different name. Whatever.
I agree that the clothing looks odd and am not interested.

What has happened with my SIL is that she also uses it as company since she lives alone. She knows the sales people and remembers when they share things about their families and personal life.

I'm difficult to fit. Short (very) with big butt, so I have to try things on. So I never buy clothing from TV or catalogs or online. I go to regular brick and mortar stores.

Sandy, good to know that you've used Seventh Generation and good to hear that Sears has one that seems to work for people. Thanks for sharing all the comments you have heard on different machines. cynic...Yes, I've heard that from the appliance store that we have dealt with over the years. They also do the service calls and he thought that a good portion of the probs people have are because they are either using cold water or too much detergent or not the right kind of detergent. Going to spend some time this afternoon looking into Speed Queen. Thanks mattstarr as well. Liriodendron....hello fellow gardener. [g] I LOVE to hang clothes outside. We bought two retractable lines for outdoors and haven't got them up but hope to soon. What's better than fresh sheets and towels off the line? We also try to buy no chemicals on our clothes and hate the 'no iron' clothes that are more and more the norm. No seasonal allergies here either. I also love sleeping with open windows. My mother used to tell me stories of how their family always had windows open in the winter but kept snuggly under thick comforters. I will make sure to look for that heater and figure out if it functions correctly. Thanks. Yes, I hadn't thought of the fact that using the front door dryer is already a fact of life, I suspect as suburbanmd points out, it would just be more of what we would like to avoid. Something to think about though. I have been told by the appliance dealer that with new Top Loaders you are not supposed to shove all the clothes in, but carefully load by dropping clothes in one at a time. Still they come out tangled and wrinkled according to some.

I am like Marilyn. I don't do dress up. I own one pair of gray pants but they are probably too big for me now since I lost a bit of weight since last year. I'm overweight,over 60, wear jeans and mens t shirts. Still get hit on all the time. Like Emma said, it's attitude. I walk into a room like I own it. Using Poor posture and stance is the most aging thing one can do. I learned my lesson years ago at an awards ceremony for a scout thing. I was in my late 30's. After shopping most of the afternoon I was practically in tears. I hate most women's fashion. I am short and they make me look old and frumpy. Don't even get me started ranting about those stupid looking hobbit pants. LOL So DH said to wear what I wanted and I did. I went in clean newish (not faded) jeans and a nice sweat shirt which were in style back then. When we got there there we a sat down at an empty table. Later all these men came in and sat with up. The whole room was either in uniform or dressed up. The women were all in dresses and jewelry and such. Guess who had the best time? ME!!! We talked sports, autos and guy stuff. I think had I been dressed girly they would have been more subdued. The guy next to me was tipsy and hilarious. Turned out the guys at our table were all the national head honchos. They had been partying earlier. Now had I worn a dress or dressy clothes I would have been so uncomfortable I would have been evil. My personality changes for the worse as the layers of "feminine" clothing go on. So I have learned to stay in my comfort zone. The heck with what others think. The church thing? How nice of those women to judge. Bless their brittle little hearts.

Look at the discount stores. When I needed some inseason clothes late in the season for the kids, I usually could find something at Ross, TJ Maxx or Marshalls. Sale racks can be godsends too. We bought the major part of DDs maternity wardrobe the weekend when she came home for the Fourth of July to announce she was 3 months pregnant. She needed long sleeves even for summers in San Francisco, so we hit all the sale racks. The maternity winter clothing, which is what she needed mostly for the cool city breezes, were slashed to single digit prices. We scored on lots (17) of tops, most of which were $5 each.

I have long, slender legs with narrow hips and a small bottom so skinny jeans and leggings look good on me. I love them, but wear them only with blousey tops that cover my bottom. At my age, anything else would look inappropriate with them, IMO. I'm not considered overweight, but I have to admit that menopause has done a number on my waist and I would so love to tone it up. I started running on my eliptical again, and doing sit ups to help . . . but instead, gave myself a major abdominal strain that put me out of commission for 3 weeks. That was so incredibly painful! My DH said that I was lucky I didn't give myself a hernia! As for tops, I don't like to wear the tight ones. Those were all well and good when i was young and wider cut slacks and jeans were in style, but for me, not now. As I mentioned earlier here, I buy a lot of my clothes via Soft Surroundings online. I'm just not liking the very long backs that are showing on many these days. I have a few that I'm actually taking to a seamstress this week to have shortened some. As for my style, I went through a kind of hippie stage in my teens, but even then my jeans were always clean and pressed (lol). Then "surfer girl", living on the ocean in Florida in my Twenties. My 23 y/o daughter would tell you that I've definitely dressed "preppy" for as long as she can remember. Most likely, Southwestern Preppy, though! That is, except when I'm gardening. Then, my style runs heavily towards bag lady!

My friends father also ;used the shopping channel as company. He has bought thousands of dollars worth of jewelery and kitchen stuff. He has no wife or girlfriend and doesn't like to cook.

I think a lot of people do this because they are lonely.

I have bought clothes online before from QVC. But they have all been real Irish sweaters. My everyday china and lots of serving pieces came from there too. Come think of it, I have bought many things from QVC. I haven't been disappointed in anything I have gotten from QVC. Most of what I have bought has not been clothing.

I do occasionally buy clothing from a couple of stores that I shop at regularly so I know what size to order...

All and all I like shopping online, then I don't have panic attacks from crowed stores...

I'm not familiar with the Shopping Channel or QVC. But buying clothes online or via mail is similar in that you can't try them on.

If you become familiar with a brand, you can often buy without fear of a bad fit, even with jeans (which I buy from Lands' End's website). I've had good luck buying shoes online too (Sierra Trading Post, 6pm, eBay).

I too like QVC and have shopped with them for as long as they have been on the air. I am not a "shopper" really, I need shoes that are wide and Clarks always fit well and one of the designers makes pants that fit me. Yes, I have made some booboo's....hate it when I buy something I don't need and return shipping is very high.... but, I am also handicapped so I have to have someone take me places. It IS really easy to get taken in by those "friend" sales people, and lately they have really gotten too chummy, IMO, so I no longer keep the station of very often. I also witnessed my mother become 'taken-in' by that 'friendliness, and it was amazing that an 80+ year old woman would buy so much perfume, jewelry and kitchen stuff.

I have never bought anything from TV, I watched QVC as I channel surf everyday, There is one brand called LOGO that has clothing that interest me, the tops only, but have not been brave enough to order any~I also prefer to try on things.

I watch Hoarders alot several of those folks have QVC additions with all of the boxes I see in their home, sometimes not even opened. Shopping online can be very addicting.

I have bought a few things from QVC and have been happy with them. No clothing.
I do like to buy clothing from Lands' End and L L Bean. I have bought shoes from both places but Zappo's is my favorite online shoe store. Returns to Zappo's are free shipping.

There's a shopping channel I've watched when I'm on the treadmill @ 4am, back in the old days.....thought it was entertaining as opposed to watching the farm news or putting on a DVD movie I own & have watched a dozen times. lol

I've "never" purchased a product after seeing it on TV.
