Cleaning scum from shower floor tiles
Comments (3)Thanks...I think my tile guy ended up putting the Miracle SuperSeal all over the glazed porcelain tile and grout on the floor of the shower and not wiping it up completely. There was a pale yellow glaze over the metal drain cover, which I could scrape off with my fingernail. The tile guy at Home Depot said he never should have put SuperSeal over glazed porcelain, as that product is only for unglazed tiles. I think because it's a base of 2x2" tiles, he took the quick route and poured the product in to apply it, but didn't adequately wipe it up afterwards. That combined with the buildup of fatty soap scum was just too much. The Home Depot guy also suggested a strong acid cleaner from Miracle Sealants to dissolve the soap and the old sealer. Then he suggested resealing with TileLab's no-VOC grout sealer that you apply only to the grout and not to the tile. I'm going to call both companies tomorrow and see which one will last longer....See Moresoap scum on tub
Comments (12)I finally bit the bullet and joined the melaleuca club, so I use their tub and tile cleaner- and not only did it work on my (modern era) tub and shower - even got out the dye residue from me doing my hair in the sink... but it did wonders on the 60's pink Crane tub at my folk's house, which had a buildup that was half hard water, half soap scum (looked like Lost River Caverns under the faucet) but, believe it or not, suave dandruff shampoo works great in a pinch ;)...See MoreSoap scum
Comments (18)I have to second the suggestion to eliminate bar soap. I did this about a year ago, and my shower doors and tile never require a "scrubbing". I went down to visit my parents in FL a few weeks ago and their guest bath and master bath shower had terrible soap scum around the soap dish and around the pan sides. I used a good cleaner (comet spray) cleaned it really well and then made them throw their bar soap away and buy liquid. In the Mother's Day card my mother sent to me, she thanked me over and over again for her continuingly clean shower! It had been over a month and she had only had to spot clean the floor of the shower - no soap scum at all. Please make life SO much easier on yourself - just stop using bar soap!!...See Morekeeping soap scum at bay
Comments (15)My goodness, I had no idea. Will any liquid soap do? DH has skin allergies so I am limited to very mild soaps (like unscented Dove bar soap). I hope I won't have to choose between the health of my husband's skin and the cleanliness of my new shower. :-) And while we're on the topic of keeping our glorious new tile clean :-) I wonder what else is good to do? I do have a squeegee and have been using that after each shower. My excellent tile guy also wanted to recommend a spray that can be used regularly to keep mildew etc at bay, but he couldn't remember the name. Does anyone here know of such a thing?...See Morevannie
