Amsterdam teaser for 2010
Comments (16)I'm REALLY interested... it's just that my pocketbook is REALLY empty! If some miracle occurs between now and then, I'm in! I would love to travel and get some culture! And traveling with you guys would be the cats pajamas! :-) Lizalily, I absolutely LIVE on coffee! I don't own a double burner Bunn because it looks cool on my counter top! LOL! We'd have to figure out some way of always having a pot on! I'm a Folgers freak... how about you? Kristi... the diamond tour sounds very interesting and educational! I'd be very much into doing that! We never buy jewelry retail, either... my wedding set was designed by Larry, and made by our gemologist friend in Canada. It's platinum, rather plain by anyone's standards, but I love it... and the stone is gloriously clear and sparkly! Larry won't tell me what it appraised at, and he won't tell me how much he paid... all he'll say is, "You don't want to know!" It's probably better this way... or I'd never wear it! Your ring sounds gorgeous... champagne diamonds are so beautiful! The mixed metal colors must really show it off! White and yellow gold look so expensive together! Good jewelry is a nice investment. I'm not quite the party girl I used to be, so I'm all for absorbing a bit of daytime culture! One evening to see the night life sights would be more than enough for me! With our svelte new figures, we'd HAVE to do some fashion shopping while there! :-) I think it sounds like the trip of a lifetime! I can't even imagine the time we'd have, the fun, the beauty of the flower fields, the bulbs, the architecture, the people, the everything! I've never even been on a big plane! Honestly, I doubt I can save the required amount of cash to make the trip a reality... but you never know. Life has a funny way of working out for the best. If it's meant to happen, it'll happen. But, pray for me, anyway! :-)...See MoreFS New York...anyone been there?!!?
Comments (30)Faron - since your DW and DD don't want to stay at 4S, take a look at The Hudson Hotel. I think it may definitely peak the interest of your DW & DD. It is a very happening, chic place. A place where you are apt to run into a celebrity or two during your stay. The Hudson has been used for more than a few movies as well as an episode of the S&ATC HBO series and Gossip Girl. While they do not advertise, the hotel is always full. Only in the middle of the hot summer when everyone on the island of Manhattan has escaped to the Hamptons will you find an available room at the last minute. I think it may be just the place to celebrate a 21st birthday in style. Anyhoo, I am attaching a link. Check it out with your DW. It is a bit pricey, but I try to get there at least once a year. I have nothing to do with The Hudson, make no money by endorsing them, just an obsession to go back as often as I can do so. In fact, after looking at their website, I do think my own DD's 21st might be celebrated there. I think the entire vibe of The Hudson is perfect for celebrating a 21st birthday. The Hudson is situated directly across the street from the Time Warner Center, which houses the Shops at Columbus Circle, and a short walk from Central Park. You could walk down W. 58th and not even know that it is a hotel unless you've had the good fortune of a stay. However, behind the long neon light and arborvitae standing in urns, lies a gem! Can't wait to hear about your final plans for the celebration of your DD's 21st birthday. Here is a link that might be useful: The Hudson Hotel...See MoreHas anyone been to Amsterdam? Paris?
Comments (18)We were in Amsterdam 2 years ago and loved it. He might want to go to the Rijksmuseum which has many of the Dutch masters work. He should check the Keukenhof Garden to see if the tulips are in bloom--if so, a visit would be a "must." It's an indescribably beautiful floral display. He could also visit the flower auction in Aalsmeer. It's world-famous, and tourists walk on a catwalk above all the action. It's very interesting. Tell him to watch out for bikes and cars as pedestrians there are not as well protected as here. The Dutch are serious bike riders, and when they are riding, they are going somewhere not just out for a leisurely pedal! If he likes models, Madurodam is a very large miniature version of many of the points of interest in Holland. It's quite amazing. English is pretty widely spoken. Wish you could go too....See MoreRoman Shades- Looking for been-there-done-that
Comments (4)I made insulated shades for almost every window. Yes, the plastic rings do become brittle & break. You can zig zag them on with your machine. I used clear monofilament thread. I also used the screw eyes & a cleat. For weight in the bottom I used a threaded rod from Home Depot. I think it's 3/8". Be careful if you have window locks & they happen to stick out. You have to lift the shade over the lock or you'll eventually tear the hem out. The magnets stuck to the side of the window, if you use them, will also eventually lose their stickiness & come off. You can use double sided tape to stick them back on. Our Joann's have everything you need. Even a little book on how to make them. The site below has a book you can order & made them side drawn for patio doors. They are very warm & they look nice. A nice feature is they are room darkening, so perfect for bedrooms. My granddaughter used to take LONG naps. Here is a link that might be useful: Directions & materials...See MorePieonear
