Wanna help with my list of 'consumable gifts'?

My 50th birthday is coming up soon, and my MIL, sister, and DH are asking me what I want. Seeing as I have so much stuff already, I think I'm going to ask for only consumable gifts. Here's what's on the list of possibilities so far:

Food and Drinks

Any more ideas? I don't really have any hobbies that I need supplies for, I already get several magazines, and I don't commute (so I don't need a gift card for gasoline).

This list is already pretty long, but I'd like to hear more suggestions. I'll probably use this list for Christmas too.

Wow, I've been going through your photos, and now I remember you have that beautiful deck, and pathway. I'm jealous. I don't know what you could use, unless it would be a hydrangea bush (my favorite) or some hanging baskets of impatients. My sister makes her own, which I'm sure you could do too, from the looks of your talents. You've got a beautiful place there.

well it turns out i WILL NOT be getting a mothers day order this year... we have bills to pay and decided that the $40 i would have gotten to spend on plants is need more to pay bills.... so i guess maybe next year i can get the plants ive been waiting to get... :(

It has been a good year for me, finding all the tools I wanted/needed on SALE. Except the Maslin pan, of course, since it's always full price, but so worth it. My 40+ son came for a visit, helped me make Apple Pie Jam, and now wants a Maslin of his own! He's going to need a really big stocking. I've asked Santa for a pocket camera to take photos of what I bake and can for my farm's Facebook page and website. The Olympus Stylus actually has a setting for "cuisine"!!!! LOL MY SIL, the chef, gave me a little potato peeler with a ceramic blade - wonderful for apples too large or too soft to fit into the rotary peeler - it looks like a disposable shaver. On my wish list is a Kyocera Mega-peeler with a much wider ceramic blade that could also be used to shave cheese or chocolate, besides those huge Wolf River apples. The little peeler is on my shopping list for gifting my friends who cook, bake, and/or can, and a Side-Swipe blade for my DD's Kitchenaid stand mixer since she keeps drooling over mine when she uses it. It really has helped me decide the course of action that feels right for me and the situation" Ah, but could it be that what feels right for you may not be right in terms of doing what is best...ie, kind, gracious and in the spirit of honoring a decades long friendship. Perhaps you are so concerned with getting a point across to someone that your feelings are hurt that you aren't realizing you are just passing the hurt back to her. If you are realizing it and still pursuing this option, then that is a whole other issue. I once was castigated in an online forum for not following the '3 questions rule' in communication. And for this situation, can you honestly answer all of these questions with a hearty yes: Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary? Blunt opinion here: your decision fails questions #2 and #3. Why you are determined to make it clear she isn't on your gift list,instead of keeping her in your heart and thoughts by simply continuing to send notes, and make friendly phone calls, is unclear to me. a really good-quality umbrella (men seem to like those huge golf ones that make some sort of territory-grabbing statement, which is really annoying in NYC). tickets to some event you think he'd like (though if you get him a pair, he may feel he HAS to take you--depends on the dynamics of the relationship) a new wallet--if you can see what style he's using already. My DH gets these from time to time, and they are useful, bcs his wear out eventually. Does he use a day planner or a PDA? Could you "up the ante" by getting him a new binder, or a new case for it? Perhaps a higher-quality one than he's got? And who cares whether he can get a better deal on it than you can--the point is not how much it cost, but that you thought of it in connection w/ him. And there are always books, if you know what he likes to read. Or DVDs. And, don't pressure yourself too much. Once people get to be grownups, the importance of presents falls a little--just one small, nice thing is great. Oh--oh--TOYS! the phrase "once people get to be grownups" made me think of this. Grownups don't get toys--not TRUE toys. We get "toys," w/ quotation marks. We get iPods instead of GameBoys, DVDs instead of action figures. Get him a toy, even if it's a smallish one. Lego makes these really great little things called XPods, I think, that are $10 or so, and you can make little bitty cars, or robots, or whatever is in the Pod. (here's a pretty good selection--they change the colors periodically, though) and for $20, they have kits for making dinosaurs, etc. And for $7, there are "mini Designer" sets The XPods are neat, bcs they result in a little result, which means they go together fast, and he can stick it on his computer monitor at work, or something, without looking like an immature geek. (not that a guy who puts together Lego dinosaurs is an immature geek, mind you...) I gave the Xpod to every one of the guys in my family at Christmas this year--they didn't go ballistic, but they were amused and they thought it was fun.

Omaha Steaks or their Ala Zing whole meals. Come on dry ice and they're delicious.

I like the mushroom kit idea myself!

glenda--that fruit looks amazing! My MIL would definitely get a kick out of that. Maybe I'll get her one for Mother's Day.

lindyluwho--Mani/pedi is a great idea, but I don't get them. My neighbor does though, so that's something I could get for her birthday that I wouldn't have thought of. Thanks!

patti--I never heard of Ala Zing. I'm going to look into that. I've ordered ravioli from FreshPasta.com, and it's excellent (and DH likes to play with the dry ice). :)

mscsippy--Ooooh, I love ribs. Have you had Corky's?

No real suggestions here, but I do like to make themed baskets as gifts. I just gave my Dad a big basket lined with cloth napkins and filled with breakfast things - pancake mix, scone mix, 2 syrups, honey, jams and a small thing of coffee. TJMaxx always has a nice assortment of giftable foods which is where I purchased most of the things. I've also done baskets with lotions, soaps, candles and a relaxing cd. Movie themed ones are fun too - a favorite dvd or theatre gift cards and some of those boxed candies, some popcorn and soda.

I had to copy your list. You've got some great ideas there!

Stamps, everyone uses them, and envelopes to go along with.

How about an oil change for the car? Detailing your car?

And if your a cook, how about new spices. Most people dont use their spices fast enough and have you priced spices? It would be wonderful to get a basket of fun and different spices.

My SIL asked for "experience gifts". I have given her Blockbuster gift certs, movie passes, tickets to a Broadway show (we live on Long Island) , and beauty spa gift certs.

For "experience gifts" you could add whatever is local to your area.

Aquarium Tickets
Sailing
Whale watching
Horse racing with clubhouse seating and buffet
Amusement park tickets
Tickets for special events to museums
Enrollment fee for a class (something you might want to try or are interested in)Cooking,dancing,hobby etc.
Glider ride
Hot air balloon ride
Skydiving

Or what about services?

Housecleaning or window washing
Post winter clean-up (landscaping)
Grooming certificates for pets
Oil change
Car wash with detailing
Computer check and clean-up
