Gumbo, crawfish any way, beef stew, home made chicken pot pie, pork roast with rice and gravy, shrimp creole. Those are a few.

I really like homemade chicken and noodles with mashed potatoes. I don't like mashed potatoes with out anything on them, gravy, dumplings or noodles. Homemade yeast rolls too.

I'd have to put tuna casserole at the top of my list, I think. Ham loaf and scalloped potatoes. Just about anything with pasta and cheese would be contenders! I love stuffed shells and manicotti and may have to make a batch soon.

Just in the past few months I discovered ham, boiled with potatoes and green beans in with it. Heaven on a fork!

with all the cold have been craving all the foods mentioned! in fact, think i'll pop out a meatloaf in the freezer! (made 4 few weeks ago) since we're down in the weather freezer again, sigh...we even broke our own "salt/fat" rules and bought marie callander pot pies...not as good as they used to be...

Yes, all of the above. Add fried chicken for me. Mashed potatoes? I could eat an entire bowl of those as a meal, with nothing but salt and pepper.

Chicken cutlets, pan-fried! (No gravy -- I just use a little horseradish sauce on the side.)

And, yes, mashed potatoes, with some broccoli on the side, can do it, too!

broccoli. That reminds me of one of my favorite comfort food meals. Ham with mac-n-cheese and broccoli. Because ham and cheese is good togther and broccoli and cheese are good together. So good.

There are so many. Probably my all time favorite though is braised brisket with a deep rich mushroom onion gravy, mashed potatoes and some veggie (usually green beans or broccoli).

A close second is this really easy pressure cooker recipe sausage, potatoes, onions and kale with a little bit of chicken broth and Dijon mustard. It's so good you'll eat the whole thing.

Sure wish I hadn't read this at lunchtime, when I'm trying to stick to only eating a banana.

I love most all of the above, but seldom get to eat it as it's pretty difficult to make just one serving and not have the freezer crammed with way too much to eat in a timely manner.

Also I could just sit and eat a bowl of plain buttered noodles. Mmmmm. Good.

Funny, I never could stand the mac and cheese my mother made way back when, but once I started fixing the famous blue and yellow box stuff for my boys, I came to really like that.

Next on my list is green chile, made like a thick stew, smothered in cheese, topped with sour cream, scouped out of the bowl with tortilla chips.

Home made pea soup with ham on the bone, the marrow adds so much flavor.
tomato soup with oysterettes are my go to when I don't feel well.
A boiled dinner with either ham or brisket. Soo good on a cold day.

Don't get grossed out, but my mother used to make tuna salad, cook up some baked beans and then put them both in the same bowl. Not sure why it works, but most people think it sounds weird.

I had something with my granddaughter tonight that was a long forgotten comfort food ...Egg Foo Yung. Totally Americanized Chinese food...probably was never served in China. My mom and I used to get this in the 50s as a treat ( my dad and brothers didn't like it) and I still love it once in a great while. Hannah loved it too.

Thanks so much for sharing your favorite 'comfort' foods! It all sounds so delicious! I love to hear about food traditions in families. With the nasty Winter lots of us have had gone thru these foods truly were 'comforting' I grew up eating the rolled out flat type dumpling dropped in rich ham or chicken broth. That was a very tradtional food here in WV. Mom alo picked berries or cherries and made what she called a 'puddin'. She poured a very simple cake type batter over the fruit and baked till golden around the edges. We poured milk over this. Memories of country cooking.

When I was a kid my very favourite meal was breaded pork chops with mashed potatoes and creamed corn. I still love it.

Nan made the best chicken and dumplings, the fluffy, steamed dumplings. I've never attempted it.

I love buttered noodles with a little salt. Or buttered spinach noodles with soy sauce and parmesan.

I make egg foo yung a lot. Love it. One of the few things I will eat again the next day.

Oh, yes! Egg foo yung also. I used to make it for the family from those cans from the grocery store, but now that there's just me, I run up to the family-owned restaurant and pick mine up at the drive-through window. One order can last me three meals.

Things my mom used to make: pork curry over rice, lasagna, spaghetti, chicken & rice dish she made, which I've never some across anywhere else and no one seems to like it as much as me when I make it for them, homemade sushi, sushi casserole, chili. Things I make: green chile chicken enchilada casserole, homemade soups, seafood crepes.

Never seen, or heard of, egg foo yung in a can. Intriguing. Going to Google!

Medium rare roast beef with yorkshire pudding and gravy.

Toast with cinnamon and sugar. mmmm That sounds like a good treat for Saturday morning breakfast which happens to be tomorrow. Yum.
