those awful zippers on tv stars

Have you noticed the number of clingy or form fitting dresses on TV stars and then they turn around and there's an exposed industrial type silvery metal zipper down the whole length of the dress? I don't know why they don't sew either a placket or preferably an invisible zipper style of installation. It would be one thing if this were a hip young woman with the industrial accessories, but I am not talking about that. What inadequate costuming.

It must be the new style. I see it all the time on Revenge because Victoria always wears fitted dresses. Other shows as well, but they escape me. It really takes away from the dress!

yes definitely currently in style. On some things it looks good on others just really out of place.

I like the garden scene at the end of "You've Got Mail." Just amazing. I also like "The Secret Garden" movies, since they make a big deal out of the flowers. And if you like to see 70s interiors, you should check out old "Columbo" episodes. To die for. There was an animated movie that came out around the early 70s, which featured a home with a garden, and there was a lady of the house, and I think there was a letter that featured in the plot. Does anyone have any idea what it might have been? I think there were insect characters too. I wish I could remember better.

When the ex was living here, I used to joke with the neighbors that with neighbors like us, who needed cable. There was the time he decided some kids we were watching needed a water slide. So he put a couple of tarps in the front yard, which is on a hill, and turned on the hose. Picture a 50 year old guy needing to loose about 25 pounds, without a shirt on and multiple tattoo's, shorts that won't stay up (more crack than New York)and a beer in his hand, sliding down a tarp in the front yard on his stomach. By the time he got to the bottom, at the street, his shorts were somewhere down around his thighs. This went on for about an hour. The kids loved it. All the while, one of the neighbors was having her annual BBQ for her church with a wonderful view of all this. Whoops. I live reality TV.

Recently I did some research on main stream refrigerators such as the Samsung. Refrigerators are complex machines so things will go wrong. #1 repair is ice makers. Because things will go wrong, factor in the cost and availability of repairparts. Next factor in customer service (see Facebook group). I think there is no perfect refrigerator for those of us with budgets. Stay away from too many bells and whistles like Wi-fi and inventory control. Just more to fail. I came to the conclusion that repairs (unlike Mom’s frig that lasted 15 years) are just the price of ownership. Sad but true. My 2019 LG malfunctioned 1 month after purchase because a software update didn't automatically update. You referred to 2014 Consumer Reports. This info is too old for comparison of an electrical product. The best way to determine quality is to call several repair shops and ask what manufacturers they repair less frequently. The extent of Samsung’s quality issue (above) eliminates it from my list!

I seem to be the odd one here. Supernatural is my go-to comfort background noise. I have started watching VanHelsing, American Horror Story (had to skip Season 2 - it was too much for me), Deputy, sometimes Midsomer Murders and plenty of youtube craft videos. Just downloaded the app for Curiosity Stream but haven't begun watching anything yet. I use a Roku, have Netflix and Hulu and Amazon Prime, no cable or antenna.

It was in style last year here and doesn't seem to have made it through another season. I don't know why it's showing up on tv now unless the shows were made last year.

It's not out of style is the reason why people are seeing them on television. But I suspect that this fad will not have a long life, at least not on the backs of dresses and skirts.

It doesn't bother me at all, but I do think that it can detract from the attractiveness of the outfit. But then, I think that the fashion IS all about the zipper and not the garment.

I saw Katy Couric in such a dress recently and thought it looked great.

I have one dress and one skirt with the exposed industrial zipper. I am not a fan of the style but I really liked them otherwise. And hey, I don't have to see them since they're on my back! Ha ha

Brassy zippers are on lots of things. I had to hunt for a new purse that didn't have at least three.

I don't like it at all. The zipper never flows or drapes as nicely and it bumps out and bubbles and is very distracting, I think.

Now, put it on a leather jacket and I'm all for it, but not on a pretty dress.

I see it on Project Runway and that type of show featuring "designers" all the time now.

My opinion is that Project Runway started it all. If you think about Jeffrey Sebelia (especially his
) and Seth Aaron's
, you'll remember they use zippers as "design elements". Then, you started seeing those rosettes made of zippers, all over town. And now seeing zippers is mainstream

I've seen some that I like, others not so much. I too see it alot on Project Runway. I also see a few talk show hosts who like to wear that style.
