"Digital form"?

I sent a copy of a store surveillance video, on DVD, to an insurance company. The left a message on our machine last night asking if we could email it in "digital form". I don't even know what that means. Can I convert .avi files to this "digital" format?

Have you tried uploading the link to photobucket....or FLICKR....? Then send them the link to view it...

You might upload it and share it on a site, I don't know which one would fit. One of the backup ones, with a one-off account you intend to share the signon for? You'd think that sending a DVD is the best possible transmission.

If the file is more than a few tens of megabytes, the answer is no, it can't be attached to an email.

avi is digital - any file on a PC is digital, so too are those useable by an electronic device.

Sounds to me like you know what you're doing but the person on the other end doesn't

What have you done with, and how have you organized photos?

Welllll.... I did manage to get started on the task after taking the rest of the day away from it. I talked to DH too, which was helpful and he was supportive of organizing them in a more efficient manner- including the possibility of getting rid of the old albums. Started this morning by quick sorting the box into piles based on time frames. Tried not to let emotions interfere. After looking at the old albums, I realize that they had been rearranged already and were out of order, as well as having quite a few blank spots. Add to that they are older and starting to yellow, so all the photos are out of those and into their proper piles now. So far have sorted a few piles, getting rid of any duplicates and any photos that are just bad condition or that I've always hated. Putting them in labeled plastic bags temporarily as I go. I think it will require a bit of fine tuning and for now I'm pulling out the obvious and seeing what is left- from there I can go through them yet again, and cull them further. It is time consuming, but I think it will be worth it in the end. Sort of thinking about going with photo storage boxes, where you have a bigger box that then holds a number of smaller boxes, which hold about 100 photos each. I like the idea of having the photos in that type of system, where you can pull them out and look at them by category if you actually do want to look at them, but it will depend on how many photos we are left with in the end, and if the boxes will be compact enough to make that a good solution. DH also offered to scan some into the computer. Might end up doing that too- not sure if we'd need the smaller organizing boxes if we just did that. Oh well, just thinking out loud now. If anybody here has done such a thing, I'm still listening. OK, now this topic can start moving down the list :)

Here is Glenda's Pineapple Casserole recipe: Glenda’s Pineapple Casserole glenda_al@gardenweb Caution: grate your own cheese, do NOT use preshredded, as it does not melt right with the pineapple. I always double the recipe. 1 (20-ounce) can pineapple chunks, drain, keep juice 1/2 cup sugar recommend reducing sugar to 2 T for a sidedish CindyMac@gardenweb 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese 1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted 1/2 cup crushed Ritz crackers Drain pineapple, save 3 Tbsp of juice. Combine sugar and flour with 3 Tbl pineapple juice. Add cheese, pineapple. Mix well. Put in greased 8 x 8-inch baking dis). Mix crushed crackers and melted butter together; sprinkle over pineapple mixture. Bake for 25 minutes at 350 degrees F. or until bubbley

Our LFL got off to a slow start. Day one, no book taken. Day two, no book. Day three . . . is it possible that passer-by don’t realize it is a little free library? We hung a sign. And then it was Greekfest. That is the three day food fest at the Greek church a block away, which draws the entire city, it feels like, for roast lamb, dolmas, shwarma, and assorted Greek fun and games. Our quiet neighborhood fills up with revelers walking to and from their cars parked in every bit of curb, from Friday to Sunday it’s like Broadway here. Typically, the leaves also start falling and rain follows. Greekfest marks the flowering of fall and the first hint of the coming winter. Along with thousands of people walking by our house, and now our LFL. Whether it was the sign or Greekfest that broke the drought, who knows, but books have been flying off our shelves. I’ve had to re-stock again and again. Naturally, the kids’ books have been popular, as well as genre fiction (sci-fi and mystery, mostly), but non-fiction has moved and so has literature. Books that I worried might never find takers, have; like ”Miss Manners Guide To Excruciatingly Correct Behavior”. Although, books that I’d think would have gone, have not; like ”The Naked And The Dead”. Neither cookbook in there has found a new home, but they are good ones and I’m hopeful: ” The Silver Palate Cookbook” and “Cuisine Rapide”. Like many cookbooks, those are rather large, and have to lay flat on the bottom shelf, which may reduce their visibility. I have also had to re-stock the trinkets: toy cars, playing cards, cocktail umbrellas, random stickers, and so on. Greekfest is over and traffic at the LFL will slow, but I’m no longer worried that no-one will ever take the books. We have boxes and boxes more ready to be placed on the shelves - I estimate maybe a year’s worth of inventory. Persons unknown have even contributed a couple of books. I think I will put together a light that turns on when the doors are opened, to help people browse during the dark winter months.

I also sent almost 600 pages of (paper) attachments to support our client's allegations. She told me "We've gone paperless, I only received page 1. Can you email the whole thing to me?" Um ... no! The file is too large. WTH did they do with the rest of the box? And, if you've "gone paperless", why can't you play a simple .avi file on DVD, that plays automatically in Media Player when I put the disc in my hard drive. Doesn't every computer come with media software? Especially the claims department for an insurance company?

I think you've said you work for a lawyer?

You may know that insurance company claims departments are the last places to find people who are helpful and accommodating. Some even tell their people to go slow and look for obstacles to toss in the road. Especially when dealing with lawyers submitting claims.

Insurance companies make their living off the time value of money. Don't pay this week what you can pay next week, and don't pay next week what you might never have to pay at all. Also, the slower they go, the more likely the claimant will forget or omit a detail or fact they'd thought of had months earlier.

That's all too frustrating to even think about. Good luck.

I think they just want it sent as a file, not on a DVD. Compress your avi file using Winzip or 7-zip or something of that sort, then email it if it is a size that email can handle. If it is still too large to email, then ask the insurance company if they have an ftp site that you can upload it to, and also ask for step by step directions on doing that ftp transfer.
