Friends of mine live in one that looks a lot like this one. It was build in 1950 in mid Ohio.

In our area (Southwest) this is called a bungalow.

I would never have guessed "bungalow' because I'm most familiar with Chicago bungalows. They are brick and very narrow to fit Chicago's narrow but deep lots. They have "English" basements like your example, and are single floor, with many stairs up to the front door and more stairs down to the basement level at the back of the house.

I looked up the Wickipedia article on bungalows, which says bungalows usually have a veranda. I wonder if the one you're considering has lost a front veranda. It would be prettier with one -- and without the strange 'pyramid' of concrete stairs to the front door. (They are a hazard without handrails.)

Yes, we would do some kind of porch..I'd probably try to give it a cottage look.
I climbed up one side of the stairs and down the other..the "landing" is very "small" and the step width is very narrow.

Found out yesterday why the listing agent still has it for almost double what it foreclosed for. The land/lot is zoned for residential or commercial. So now I'm a bit sad at the thought that we could live in the middle of business in 10-15 years.
Have to really think harder on this one.

Uh-oh. I don't like the sound of that zoning. Having commercial next door is another of those irremediable faults. Keep looking!

In Windsor we have streets filled with that type of housing. We just call them war time houses because they were built just after the war when the government gave subsidies to the veterans returning home to have a house. My house is similar but mine is a 1 1/2 story house

It actually has a full basement under it and windows all around the foundation. There is a fireplace in the basement..??

Chi, the upside to our situation is time. We don't have to settle, and have time to find a place and fix it a bit before moving in if we have to.

I will find out more about the zoning this week. There are already a few business on this street..all but one have been there for as long as I've been alive.

Well. we love it..it has way more personality in person. Just needs some updating..only the floors would have to be done before moving in. The listing pictures don't do it justice.

It has a ton of built in cabinets..that have been heavily painted..so they all stick from the layers of paint.

So other than a refrigerator and refinishing the floors..we could move right in.

Still have to work on the zoning thing. My friend/relator will check numbers and zoning.

So we'll see.

A possible up-side of the commercial zoning is that you might eventually sell for more because of the commercial zoning! You can build almost anything in 'commercial'.

My RE Broker mom bought an old farmhouse in our town. The street in front of it had become a four-lane highway in the 90 years since it was built. She rented it out for enough to cover taxes. It was next to another old farmhouse. Each house was on a big lot. There was a two-flat next to my mother's property.

When other old home's very senior owner died, her heirs agreed to put that house on the market along with my mother's property. While it would have been hard to find a buyer for either of the houses *as houses*, the land sold for a nice sum to a builder who put up a dozen townhomes. (The builder had to fight city hall to change the zoning to multi-family, but he paid for that.)

That is a cute "post war" home. I hope you get it.
