Menopausal? Perimenopausal?

I don't really know where I am in the scheme of things. Nothing's finished, and the times I think I am, well, Mother Nature tells me otherwise.

This past time, I had a few horrendous cramps; in my younger days (I'm now 51), I had a pretty easy time of it. This week, Motrin, Midol didn't work so great. I would've loved to just stay home under the blanket with a heating pad, but that's not a great excuse that would pass the boss.

Anything you can recommend for the next time this comes around?

Have you gone to your ob and had them run the blood work on you so you know for sure what you are dealing with. That was the only way they knew with me. I knew I was he said no I was not till he saw my blood work and he said wow yes you sure are!

I was on hormones for the transition period which really helped a lot, also he gave me black cohosh supplements. I got off the hormones completely. I really wish I had continued on with a low dose hormone however.

Any time there was any break through bleeding he would do an ultrasound to check for cysts or other problems.

Greetings, Caroline! I like your term, "nag"! How about nagging one another - that way, you could get a whole week's worth over and done with in one afternoon ... and if you're not much on nagging, you could get it finished before the tea was finished. Or ... would that be work? Also ... then you'd have to find something else to do. Farmers, well, many of them, have to work on Sunday, like it ... or not. When doing something a bit out of required routine, Dad used to say, "The better the day ... the better the deed". If you have Sirius radio capability, maybe listen to Sirius 137 ... that's the nation-wide Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and they have a lot of interesting stuff. Some even educational, too. It's getting closer, but the "withs" outnumber the "withouts" two to one: With 30 Without 15 I am not normally an indecisive person but I find myself changing my mind each time I look at the darn thing. Question: If you like the light without the bobeches, is it because the lack of them makes the "candles" look taller? Or because you just think the bobeches are old-fashioned? Or because you just don't like these bobeches on this particular chandelier? 1. No bobeches because it makes the candles look taller. 2. I hate bobeches in general as fussy and old-fashioned. 3. No strong feelings about bobeches in general, just don't like these on your light. I am thinking of looking for some thinner, more---pardon this ridiculous oxymoron---modern bobeches to try... and yes, I do have an actual job so you may well ask why I would spend five minutes on this question. If you come up with an answer, please post that as well! :)

I have too many bags for my own good! My go to bag is a larger black Tory Burch with gold chain straps threaded with leather. The straps have comfortable leather at the top where they go over the shoulder. It's big enough to fit my ultrabook computer which is a big plus. I switch out with several Coach bags in brown, gray, and silver, an orange leather Hobo tote, a great summer purse of pebbled white leather with luggage brown handles and straps and buckles (forget that brand), and Longchamps bags in seemingly every color. I have a cute nautical navy and white canvas bag from Stella and Dot (just happen to have striped shoes that don't match but look great together) and those are my mainstays. I have a few specialty type purses that I use infrequently, like a canvas and leather drawstring bag from Studio Ghibli in Japan and a tooled leather purse from Mexico shaped like a small saddle. My 29 year old dd loves Vera Bradley and has several purses, totes and overnight bags in various patterns. They are fun and colorful but I liked the older patterns with less black and purple better. My cloth bags were Provençal prints from Pierre Deux back in the day.

I have two sayings that irritate me. One, which I have only ever read or heard from Americans, is 'I could care less' which clearly means the opposite of what the person is trying to convey. The other is 'the proof is in the pudding' which is meaningless. 'The proof of the pudding is in the eating' clearly means you can only tell how good something is when you use it for its intended purpose. I would also say orientate - many of these things are Commonwealth usages, and what sounds right is directly related to what you heard growing up. 'In back' sounds weird to me, but 'in front' is fine. And I had a hard time stopping my two boys saying 'wait up' when I felt the 'wait for me' I'd always used to sound much better :) I would never use plate as a verb in my conversations but I think it is acceptable in a professional kitchen.

My period just became sporadic and one day four years ago just stopped. I am lucky in that the hot flashes aren't as hot as some of our summer days too. But don't tell anyone.....

When I was in that stage things went crazy. See your Dr. make sure all is well.

I had an easy time of it too. I had horrendous cramps the first day of my period, until after I had my daughter. I breast fed her for a long time, and my period didn't come back for 9 months. Seems like as soon as she transitioned to eating a little bit of food, my period came back, but I didn't have bad cramps like before. Then about 14 years later, they were starting to get a little bit bad, and then I skipped a period and had one in about 3 months, and then another one, and that was it. I had hot flashes but I sweat so much anyway, because I am outside so much, it wasn't that bad. I never had heavy periods, and when I had cramps, it was only on the first day.

I think it is fairly common to have your periods just get farther and farther apart until you have no more. I have also heard...don't know if this is true or not....but if you have had your tubes tied, you are more likely to have heavy periods. I didn't have my tubes tied, although it was very, very common back in my day for women to have their tubes tied after they had as many children as they wanted.

I've had hot flashes since my 40's. Mom would laugh as my sweatshirt would go off and back on many times during a visit with them.

I'm in my late 50's now.......how the heck did *that* happen! And I have regular hot flashes and now the lovely night sweats.

I think my monthly visitor has finally stopped. I thought I had it beat, since I was almost a year, then 10 months into it, it showed up again, with a vengeance. Heavy as heck. That was sometime last year, so I think I'm officially menopausal.

I just take Black Cohosh (when I remember) and I do eat ground flax seed which also helps with menopausal symptoms.
