what do you think of this medicine cabinet idea?
Comments (3)Good advice - thanks John. I have uplighting like this in my kitchen and I love it. I guess my drywall finishing was good. I will talk to my bathroom contractor about this though. What do you think about the cabinet overhanging the vanity by about six or so inches? I kind of mocked it up in my bathroom and I think I would be okay with this. In some other photos of the above I noticed the faucets are out a few inches from the wall. I couldn't do that and I don't think I'd want to. I would have shorter faucet though. How do you think that cabinet works in terms of opening? I see one little handle thing but there appear to be three sections. I think I would rather have something that swings open rather than sliding - maybe could have a little recessed area on the bottom of each door that you use to open it. Comments (15)Well.....call me a genius for asking a bathroom question on the kitchen forum. I got more responses here then BF. Who knew? HA! Some people here on the KF probably read the subject line and think, "that pupwhipped must have a screw or two loose." I may, but bigger problem is the two big glasses of Chardonnay I had on July 4th eve last night. YUM! A few kind people did respond on the BF with pics. There were pics of cabinets deeper then 11 inches, so I guess it can work. I love the look of all the ones that have been posted including alku05's and momj47's above. My room is very small, though, with a door at each end, so I wonder if my cabinet might look like the "Cab that ate Cleveland." If I could recess it a little that would help. Iglooie, can you really recess a cabinet that is not specifically designed for that purpose? Duh, could be sounding like an idiot again. And, of course, my girlfriends, most mens can't change the TP holder. My hubby is so handy and hard working, and will do most any and all things. Not that! But, pssssst, since none of you know me and never will, I'll tell you a secret. My MIL had four boys and she was an absolute clean freak. She could not deal with the "messy misses" at the toilet. She taught all her sons to "sit" and never stand for any action going on at the toilet. Get my drift? I thank her for that. Never had any misses or splashes from my hubby. Now, if only he could change the TP holder he would be perfect. Thanks to all for your kind responses. pup...See MoreRobern AiO Medicine Cabinet- anyone have?
Comments (4)My post is only referring to my concern about light output. I looked at their specs, and see that they don't list "lumens", only watts. I was of the understanding that lumens is a better descriptor of light output. Their watts are listed as "32 watts of light". The color rendering index or CRI is 90 which is reportedly excellent for the most accurate color. In my small bathroom I have 2 old fashioned 100 watt bulbs in the fixtures at the mirror. I believe that is 3000 to 3200 lumens. That is nice lighting for DH shaving and my makeup application. So, with your 32watts of LED, and on my search for lumens on Google, 80lumens per watt LEDs, then your mirror with 32 watts, = 2560 lumens. That's not 3000 but getting closer. Will your walls be dark or light? Will you have overhead lighting too? I would think that a manufacturer like Robern, they would have figured out the amount of light they need for a mirror. Go to the Lighting Forum and ask this question. They used to have a lot of great help over there, but I haven't been there for several years....See MoreRecessed medicine cabinets. Do you have one? Comments (10)We had a wall of recessed cabinets custom-built by a cabinetmaker - I did not want the "tower" in the middle because I don't like how it takes up all the counter space. This is basically just a 5 or 6" deep cabinet that spans the entire wall. The contractor then made the rest of the wall (behind the backsplash and sinks) even with the cabinet so it seems like the cabinet is recessed into the wall even though it is really sitting on top of the original wall. I love it - we have so much space (and we have a ton of bathroom crap so I never thought I'd have extra room!) I will say that if I hadn't done this, I would probably have gone for tall recessed cabinets in the side walls and mirrors in front of the sinks -- kind of like the 2nd pic you posted. Victoria Elizabeth Barnes made one for her bathroom - you can get to it from this link: http://victoriaelizabethbarnes.com/before-and-after-diy-bathroom-remodel-bright-and-light-subway-tile-marble-lookalike-custom-medicine-cabinet/ Arcy -- LOVE that cabinet! I think that is a great idea - can't wait to see it done!...See Moresusanjf_gw
