If you call me, I will come!

Hi, everyone!

I got a couple of e-mails in the last day or two, so I thought I'd better stop by. I see there was a thread asking about me. Don't you know how dangerous it is to say my name three times? :-D

It has been a long time since I've been here.

All is well. I'm now working on a government contract in Washington, DC, which chews up a lot of time in commuting.

And, oddly enough, while I can get to Facebook from my office, I can't get to Garden Web because it's flagged as a "social networking site."

Government drones. What can you do...

And by the time I get home in the evening, the last thing I want to do is spend more time on the computer.

The other thread was mentioning my dogs. This is Mason. He likes to turn my bed into a nest.

I'm very fortunate in the people from whom I got Mason over 6 years ago dog sit him during the day when I'm at work. He plays with their two Leonbergers. It makes my job possible because Mason's not home alone. He's happy, I'm happy.

This is Mason (2nd left) with his doggy day care pack.

The one on the left is the mother to the two on the right. The one on the left and the one on the far right are permanent members of the doggy day care pack, and the one second from right is a frequent visitor.

Unfortunately I don't cook as much as I used to, given the commute, but I still make sauerkraut every year, and on the weekends I've been known to break loose and whip up a feast.

I hope everyone is well, and I promise that I'll try to stop in more often.

I actually think about you all quite frequently!

Nice to hear from you Kframe. Congrats on the job. Mason is beautiful. Very cool he has a doggie daycare to go to so he's not home alone for hours on end.

Carolyn, I've been looking up every title mentioned so far, but just got to Absent Friends this morning. I haven't read any of the novels about 9/11 yet -- I think I'm still a bit squeamish to relinquish that horrendous episode to fiction. However, I will come to that point and Rozan's story certainly sounds interesting. The synopsis confused me, though: is this fiction based on actual people and incidents? disputantum, mysteries or crime or suspense, those noir novels in the anthologies are definitely outstanding in my mind. I think I've read most of them and have seen most of the films, too. In some cases, I think the films improved on the novels, or at least added another dimension of interpretation -- from Nicholas Ray to Truffaut to Robert Altman and many others. I often have a profound distaste for screenwriters and directors who tamper with books, but somehow crime/mystery novels can be tinkered with and played more loosely. Cece, looking at that list of Christie's non-series mysteries: I never realized that she wrote so many non-Poirot and Marple. The thing I love about Christie -- and this may sound contradictory -- is I promptly forget the plots and whodunnit, so every few years I can reread and enjoy them just as much. The only one I remember well is The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, and I guess that makes it outstanding. But, in a way, that's a shame 'cause I can never be shocked and riled up by it again! Thanks, Cece. The Coffee Trader and Drowning Ruth do look right up my alley. I probably overlooked the latter because it was an Oprah pick -- sometimes my reasoning for dismissing something is initially faulty.

Wow, it's so good to hear from you, neighbor. You have been missed!! There was a time that I commuted into DC for a government job...so I totally understand how tired you are at the end of the day. Check in when you can and know that you are thought of by your friends.

Mason is a good-looking dude! Glad he is able to go to doggy daycare so he isn't alone. You are a great dad to him!

The doggies are just beautiful!! I am sure Mason loves his time with them. That is very fortunate.

Hi, guy! It's good to hear from you and to see pictures of your happy family. It's really nice that Mason has a doggy day care to keep him happy and out of trouble every day while you are at work. What a huge relief for you! Thanks for checking in.

Great to hear from you! I was looking at the bookmarked KT page, and saw lots of names of people who don't post anymore, so sad. I know what you mean about leaving your best friend all day--I rarely work an 8 hour day but if I do I freak out about leaving the dogs alone so it is really nice you don't have to. Stay in touch, if you can find the time.

It was good to see your name come up.

I'm pleased that you have a position that you're finding fulfilling ... and that Mason can have a good day, as well. Too bad about the long commute.

I'm fifteen years retired - keeping busy. Nice that when one looks out the window to snowing and blowing ... one can tell one's self that one didn't want to go anywhere, today, any way.

I'm starting on my ninth year in the house on the farm that used to be (step-)uncle's, and pleased at having the health in the mid-80s that I was able to look after about a mile of garden row last year, even though I did a pretty half-assed job of it. All of the gardeners were complaining that last year was not a good year ... but I didn't even get some of the initial planting done that I'd planned to.

Dad used to say that he wanted to leave his farm better than he found it, and brother, who took it over, says the same. Both were community-oriented, brother more so: it's a different world, now. I say that I'd like to leave my community better than I found it.

Two kids, the last to hit 50 later this year, one has a partner that's having cancer problems. No grandkids. So ... I guess it's up to me and them to build what family legacy we intend to leave behind.

and hope you do stop in once in awhile....I seriously do miss all of the the KTers that used to be here....wonder how they are or even if they are still alive. Some of us are getting older. I've been here for 16 years now.
Glad your fur kid is still with you.

in these 16 years we have had 6 dogs and one foster dog for a year...she went back to her owners about 4 months ago.
one yorkie, one rott, one huge doberman and one pit have all crossed over....we have a smaller doberman who is getting old and has wobbly legs, has a hard time getting around....and one naughty yorkie who is also getting old.

they really become a part of the family don't they.

Nice to hear that you are doing well kframe. Mason is a handsome lad as are his pack mates. Hope you visit again soon. I spend more time on FB but pop in to the KT at least once a week.

Hi, Mike and Mason! It's so good to "see" you here again. As you may have figured out, you've been missed.

I love the doggy day care idea! I know it gives you so much peace of mind knowing that Mason isn't alone and is having fun.

I miss seeing the photos you'd post of the yummy meals you'd fix. If you do "whip up a weekend feast," please post a picture!
