yogalady, little over a month before I do the transatlantic cruise for 17 days, to Barcelona is fast approaching. Lots of planning to do!

Glenda, whew! I'm glad you're okay. Now about that transatlantic cruise. Is that the cruise that only goes one way? If it is, my friend in San Diego is trying to get me to go with her next year. She has been several times and just loves it. She wants to live in Italy for a few months and someplace else for a few months, but I would come home when I'm ready.

My trip is I fly to FT Lauderdale, spend the night, board the ship, Holland America.

We cross the Atlantic for 14 days, disembark in Barcelona, spend 3 days, and I fly home on my own

I fly fron Barcelona to Paris, for a two hour layover, then to Atlanta, arrive late afternoon B'ham.

Yes that's the cruise my friend was talking about. She said they only sail to Europe once in the spring and then they come back in the fall/winter.

Don't plan on a leisurely stroll from one gate to the next in Paris, with perhaps time to browse the airport shops or to get a quick bite to eat. Based on my experience, going from VA through Detroit, with a two hour layover in Paris, before continuing on to Zurich a couple of years ago, two hours should be enough time, but there won't be much extra wiggle room.

On our trip, we had to take a bus from the plane to the gate, wait in line for another bus from one part of the airport to another. Then wait in a long, slow security line after that bus. Followed by a lengthy walk trying to find the gate which wasn't marked well with signs. When we finally got to the gate they were already announcing the last and final boarding call for our flight.

We boarded the last bus to be driven to the plane and were among the last five people to board the flight.

I don't think you should panic or try to change your flights, I just want you to be aware that the logistics of CDG Airport that could make two hours be a tight connection. At least it is on the end of your trip where if something goes wrong, like your flight from Barcelona being an hour late, and you miss the connection, it wouldn't screw up your cruise; you'd just get home a day later.

are you on a tour? I seem to remember they were easier connections via airports (at least when my mother went)

I do have wheelchair access as I am limited in walking distances. Sure helped on last trip.

susan, I'm 1 of 6 going. Am friends withi two, the husband of one is going, daughter of the other going who is the travel agent that booked us and the 6th person is a friend of one of my friends :o)

We're getting a three day Barcelona card.

I do remember that at the tail end of that trip when we were flying home from the Pyrenees, the connection through Paris went much more smoothly. I think one of the big issues was since the plane from Detroit was so big and since we ended up on the last busload off that plane just getting to the terminal took about 45 minute. The other big issue was taking the bus from one side of the terminal to the other, which for some reason necessitated going through a security line.

On the return trip since the plane from Pau was much smaller we all fit on a single bus to the terminal and since we walked from the arrival gate to the departure gate it was probably only about 45 minutes total

bob, thanks asgain. I'm flying Delta all the way from Bham to Ft Lauderdle, and from Barcelona.

I've flown alone twice across the Atlantic home: myMediterranean Cruise/ Greek Isle cruise, and no problem and the other from Ireland. Did lose my luggage flying from Ireland but it arrived two days later.

My wheel chair access should help lesson the problem. It's printed on y boarding passes.

I feel very confident with the travel agent, as she's assurred me all will be fine. Of course sometimes things do happen without notice.

Glenda, don't worry too much. The airlines will take you via wheelchair or golf cart to where you need to go. Just talk to your travel agent. He/she will arrange everything.
