Okay....this recipe has been posted many times and I truly believe all of the accolades. It still makes me nervous, though. Why does the hydrogen peroxide that I use on my teeth and gums a couple of times a week bleach my towels if I'm careless but won't do the same to clothing, carpeting, etc.?

Does the liquid detergent alter the chemical composition of the peroxide? Inquiring minds want to know, lol.

I was worried about bleaching, rhizo, and tested it on a couple of old t-shirts.

I also spot treat my clothes why I see the stain, and it can be days before I do laundry. No problems whatsoever with bleaching. Maybe the dishwashing liquid coats it and acts as a barrier? Who knows.

So are y'all saying this same recipe is safe for carpet and upholstered furniture?

I've cleaned up cat yak with it on the carpet.

I usually go between this recipe and the homemade liquid detergent recipe for spot cleaning carpets.

What I like about the homemade one, is that there are no suds. The Dawn one makes suds when I scrub, which I'm not keen on. :) But they both work.

Granlan I sprayed it on an upholstered dark fabric chair to remove a stubborn stain, three applications and the chair looks brand new. I was nervous too the first time. I used the exact formula above.

What amuses me is it bleaches out the blue in the Dawn when you mix them.

What % of Peroxide do you use? If you look at the bottle, it comes in different strengths.

I did some Googling about this, and have decided that I'll probably try this recipe, but only after a little spot test on a non visible location.

I used a peroxide mix like this that I found on Pinterest to try to clean up a cat vomit stain and it bleached my carpet. (We had plans to rip it shortly thereafter anyway so I wasn't upset.) Definitely test first!
