Anybody have a really good recipe? I don't want anything really sweet, not too gummy either. I want to wow my guests.

RE: Sweet and sour meatballs

I make these often, both for potlucks and for dinner for us at home. Making for a group, I make the meatballs small, then keep warm in a slow cooker. For dinner, I make large ones and serve with rice or mashed potatoes and veggies.

Garlic Meatballs

1 lb hamburger
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 small onion, minced
1/4 cup bread crumbs

Mix into meatballs, of whatever size you like. Brown and simmer in following sauce.

Sweet and Sour Sauce
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup ginger
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup vinegar
1/4 tsp garlic powder

Heat the sauce and simmer meatballs in it for 30 minutes.

RE: Sweet and sour meatballs

I've used this recipe several times and everyone enjoys!

Cranberry meatballs
2 pounds ground chuck
2 large eggs
1/3 cup dry breadcrumbs
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1 (16-ounce) can cranberry sauce OR you can use the whole cranberry suce.
1 (12-ounce) jar chili sauce
1 Tablespoon brown sugar
2 tsp lemon juice
Combine first 8 ingredients in a large bowl. Shape mixture into about 54 (1-inch) balls.***I made 75 with smaller balls

Cook meatballs, in batches, in a large skillet over medium-high heat until browned (about 5 minutes); remove meatballs from pan, and drain well on paper towels.

Stir together cranberry and chili sauces, sugar and lemon juice. in a large Dutch oven over medium heat, and cook, whisking occasionally, 5 minutes or until smooth. Add meatballs; reduce heat to low, and cook, stirring occasionally, 15 to 20 minutes or until centers are no longer pink. **Because my meatballs were smaller, cooked in 10 minutes.

***The thyme, etc added an extra delightful taste to the meatballs

This Grape Jelly Meatballs recipe makes 30 meatballs.

RE: Sweet and sour meatballs

You can buy premade frozen meatballs and use them in this recipe to make a super quick and easy appetizer

Sweet and Sour Meatballs
adapted from Alton Brown

3/4 pound ground pork
3/4 pound ground round
1/2 cup finely grated Parmesan
1 whole egg
1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil
1 1/2 teaspoons dried parsley
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/4 cup bread crumbs

Sweet and Sour Sauce:
1 bottle (12 oz) of Heinz chili sauce
1 jar (18 oz) grape jelly (alternatively, try a can of jellied cranberry sauce)

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the pork, ground round, cheese, egg, basil, parsley, garlic powder, salt, red pepper flakes, and bread crumbs. Using your hands, mix all ingredients until well incorporated. Use immediately or place in refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Shape the meatballs into rounds and place the meatballs on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden and cooked through.

In a large saucepan, add the chili sauce and grape jelly. Heat on low-medium heat until the jelly is completely melted. Add the meatballs to the sauce and simmer on low heat for 30 minutes. Alternatively, add the sauce ingredients and cooked meatballs to a crockpot and heat on low for 4-6 hrs for optimum flavor.

Jasdip, is that powdered ginger? Seems like a lot if it is. I would like to try them though. Just want to be sure, I'm using the right thing.

RE: Sweet and sour meatballs

Oh Gosh!!! YES it's a lot! Obviously a typo from way back when. It should be 1/4 tsp ground ginger Ivamae.

JoannFla if you're reading this, please fix the recipe at our KT site. TIA

I'm glad someone mentioned it! I didn't even notice it....just copied and pasted. I originally did a google search but couldn't find it here, then checked Joann's site.

Thanks jasdip. I do really want to try them

RE: Sweet and sour meatballs

I made them to-day. Tthey are super good and so easy. I'm sure we are going to have them frequently. We both thought the sauce would be good on chicken breasts, pork chops, etc and in the crock pot. I'm so glad that you posted it and that I printed it off.

Hope things soon improve for you and your husband, jasdip. Will say a prayer for you too
