I also have little wide feet...my husband calls them "little squares". Almost nothing fits. You can mail them back free if they don't fit. If you have a Nordstrom near you, they have a wide variety of sizes, but I've had salespeople try to force me into a medium, which never works!'

Hard floors are the worst! A family member has hardwood floors, no rugs, and a no shoes policy. After a day on those floors with bare feet, my feet are screaming. Now I apologize and keep the shoes on. They understand.

I have custom orthotics, but honestly I like Superfeet better. Footsmart.com has a leather insert/arch support which is pretty good. I've even put it inside my slippers.

I've done pretty well with Clarks, sometimes Easy Spirit is ok, Merrells are good.

If you order from Zappos, you have free shipping both ways and you can order a couple sizes or styles to try them all on. It must be difficult with the wider foot.

I wear ugg slipper/moccasins around the house. LL Bean has a good moccasin slipper too.

I wonder if you could get some help with those calluses, like from a podiatrist. Sorry your feet are hurting.

I love Merrells, I have a few pair that are the same style shoe but in different colors and fabrics, some are in a suede and some are leather. I can not find the exact ones but they look similar to these. Mine do have a zipper up the center top. I get so many complements on them. They can be dressy looking with slacks.

These days I live in my various Sketchers for every day. If I need something a bit more dressy I go with the Arabesque.

I feel so sorry for those of you that can't have the comfort of bare feet!

Is it because of small wide feet that causes the problem?

I feel for you. I have had really bad feet all my life, due a plethora of foot problems. I did have those really painful callouses on my the balls of my feet too. Has any podiatrist told you why you have them? One finally told me that if he did a surgical 'release' of a tendon or something (it was so long ago I forget just what he called it) it would correct the problem. I did have the surgery done and it was like magic. Haven't had that problem since, and the callouses went away fairly rapidly after the surgery.

When it comes to shoes, I think that is a very personal thing. What feels good to one person doesn't do for another. I am also diabetic and wear shoes approved for diabetics, but I'm sure they'd be comfortable for anyone who is not. I have 'memory foam' orthotics that are quite comfortable and I wear Drew shoes, which have a good insole to begin with, but take those out and put in the memory foam ones. Drews are usually found in speciality stores, but I see that they can be ordered online also. They have excellent support, which is so important when you're on your feet so much.

I buy Easy Spirit Traveltime from Zappos. They have a removable insert so you can put in your orthotics and they have double wides in small sizes. So many shoes only have wides starting at 7 and I wear 5.5 - 6.

Are you, by any chance, on a statin drug to reduce cholesterol? If so, read on. I have a story to tell you: For five years, I suffered with similar feet problems as you describe. First I tried a podiatrist. After three or four visits without success, he prescribed about 12 physical therapy sessions. During the PT, I was given electrophoresis as well as other treatment. No help. Next I went to an orthopedic foot guy who prescribed a very expensive custom made BOOT, which resolved nothing. Besides my primary care physician the doctors mentioned here plus one other specialist, the best that could be done was a numbing patch to block the pain, not end it. One year, during our normal snow birding in Florida, I ran out of my prescription statin drug about two weeks before we were to come home. Rather than transferring it, I decided to just wait till I got home...after all, it's just a cholesterol drug and I don't run very high numbers. After being off the drug for two weeks all my foot pain disappeared. Never to return. I have now been off statin drugs for 6 years and my feet are fine.

Try looking at men's shoes - I know, not fashionable - but you are more likely to find some comfort.

I too have short and wide feet. Years ago when I was a kid and worked as a 'carry out' boy in a grocery store. I wore tennis/gym shoes that had arch supports. (I did not need arch supports.) Before the day was half done, my feet would be aching. Plain street shoes gave me longer hours, but I found it tough to be on my feet for 8 hours. This was surprising to me, a farn kid who often worked in a hay field on my feet for 4 to 5 hours at a time. The varying terrain and softer surface was the difference.

I also wear Easy Spirit Traveltime almost exclusively. I prefer slip ons. I have a desk job, but they are fine walking around the grocery store, etc. I don't like shoes so even these are kicked off when I walk in the door.

I posted about these before but many people were skeptical and one person said they were just the same as Crocs. NOT TRUE! Totally different product. I broke several toes and bones in both feet in a fall about 3 years ago and the toes on the left foot did not heal properly. My doc for diabetes said no surgery because of my age and diabetes. It was so painful to walk!

I found Terox after almost a year and they are so comfortable!! They have recently changed their name to Telic. They are orthotic and have a wonderful arch support, They are so soft yet supportive. You can bend and stretch them, even grab the part that goes between your toes and streeech it hard and it goes right gack in shape and even throw them in the washer Best pf all my foot was not screaming in pain. After a few months I found I can even go barefoot on the hard floors. Miracle! I wear the flip flops all the time and they even keep my feet warm when the floors are cold in the winter. (it got down to 55 here a couple of weeks ago.)

They come in many colors and now have new styles. Look at their website to see them and to to the testimonials. My daughter in FL has plantar fasciitis and she loves them. My husband had us buy him a pair, too. Much more comfortable than the Crocs he was wearing.Since you live in FL you can probably wear the flip flops all the time, too. Crocs. There I said it. I hated them when they were all the rage and never bought any. I have since developed a heel problem and they're the best. I admit, I try hard for them not to look like Crocs (see below link to their non-Croc looking shoes). I also love Skechers bicycle shoes. Why bicycle? The arch is fantastic support, and, they don't look like athletic shoes because they don't have shoe laces.

wonder if your doc can give you a prescription for "diabetic" shoes? we have a couple of stores in the area and ins covers part of the costs...

I've about worn out my easy spirits (had 4 pair) and of course with all the darn snow and ice have been wearing slippers all day inside, and my ugg wanna-be's (Costco brand) outside...I have been rubbing my feet down every night with a heavy lotion (like aveeno) cause my feet were so dry...

Most of the doctors and nurses wear Dansko.

Have you ever tried Red Wing? My uncle was a shoe repairman and also had foot problems. It is the only shoe he wore and the only shoe he sold.
They are a very sturdy shoe and they make them in wide sizes.

Thanks for all the suggestions but........... I've tried many of those and none have helped. The sandal type shoe won't do for work. I don't do the thing between the toes either.

I have the traveltime but didn't get them wide enough and I think they are to "chunky" anyway.

Maybe it's not the shoe, its my FOOT! When I was seeing the Podiatrist, I think he said it was the bones in my foot that had dropped and I would need surgery. So he made the orthotic insert and added a pad to lift my foot............ problem is, everything takes up too much room in my shoes, then my corns go nuts!

I was almost fine when not working but now its back hurting again. I guess I could quit working and go crazy at home.

I've been living with this pain since I was a teen, so this isn't something new. The meds aren't making it worse since I have had this problem for years and years.

I was just hoping someone found a insole or shoe that would help ball of foot pain. No luck I guess :^(

One of my dd's has very wide feet, but probably not quite as wide as yours. I always had a lot of trouble finding cute shoes for her as a kid, that would fit well. Having said that, have you tried men's shoes which look rather unisex? They might have more room in the toe bed for your orthotics.

Redcurls--that doesn't surprise me! My dh had a lot of leg pain on the statins and because his numbers weren't high, he just went off and pain disappeared. I take Losartan and think they contribute to my foot/leg pain. I'm working on lowering my bp so I can get off!

I have a high instep that keeps me from wearing many styles. I like my Birkenstocks for support but there is not much give for comfort. I had a pair made by Speedo that I owned for many, many years that were so comfortable that I nearly cried when I had to throw them out. I have purchased two different styles of Crocs flip flops and they are gathering dust.

These are a good combination of support and comfort.

I was looking for sandals with shock absorbing heels because I have foot and heel pain. They were sent quickly and efficiently last week and I have been wearing them constantly ever since. My feet feel great! I would recommend these sandals to anyone (with or without foot/heel pain). I have small feet (size 5.5), so I ordered the size 6 womens and they fit just fine. They are an excellent buy for the price

I've spent a lot of money trying to find a shoe to alleviate some of the excruciating pain of plantar fasciitis, and I can say without a doubt these are the very BEST! I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants a very comfortable, durable summer shoe! Case and point - I brought my family to an amusement park... hard pavement, wet/dry wet/dry for 9 hours straight and my feet were hardly even sore. I was blown away! I also suffer from heel spurs, which make my feet pain even worse, so these shoes are a God-send for someone like me. I will be buying more in the near future!

I have Plantar fasciitis and this is my 3rd pair of Terox sandals. They are the best shoe I own for relief when walking & standing - including my Naot,Dankos, Keen, and Merrell that are three times the cost of Terox. I bought this slip on style so I could wear with a light sock (around the house) during the winter. True to size,

I'm sorry about your foot problems, joann. I too have had problems from time to time, I know what it can be like.

Have you been seen by an orthopedist (MD) who focuses on feet? If yours is a structural problem (bones etc) it might be a good idea.

"Foot and ankle" docs are just one small segment of the orthopedic speciality. They've had years of training and tend to be very good. Maybe there's one near you, especially so if you're near a medical school.

Have you looked into specialty shoes with added depth? Width won't be helpful if the shoe isn't extra deep.
