I was just wondering what made you spell it that way, because it's the spelling Knobber that changes it from "hanging around" (not gross or illegal) to "hanging" around (which probably is illegal in a few states still and is gross in my opinion). Interestingly enough "Hob-Knobbing" is defined as Messing around, hanging out; especially with snobbish people by the Urban Dictionary. I too read the links of Icarley stating that it was spelled with a "k" and sounded like Knocker but was really Knobber. Also, for those who say Urban dictionary must have just put the nasty definition up, it's been up since 2003, longer actually than the definition for Hob Knobbing as hanging out. Linda, Believer looked it up because she was asked what it meant. She typed it in, found the spelling, googled that and, I think, was a little shocked. As I would have been. What separates this word is that they called it gross and illegal. None of the other definitions could have meant this. Using double entendres is as old as the hills. Shakespeare uses it frequently, as does James Bond (Dr. Polly Goodhead or Honey Rider anyone?) Is it appropriate to use them in childrens television shows in your opinion? Should we as adults just look the other way? Yes, words can have double meanings. And if a childrens television show used the word "suck" as a double entendre it would be just as inappropriate.

Sigh, I just love bunnies! I did dd's nursery in a bunny theme using Susan Turner bunny bedding, and I still haven't taken down some of my Easter decor. I think those plates are just the sweetest, and hope you find them. Thought you might like this....ds made it in second grade art class and I put it out every year for Easter (much to the chagrin of his now 16 year old self! :) ) I often keep it out until Fall...love it so much.

Funny you mention that-I recently used it when describing something on the high priced side. It's an indulgence thing, rather than something prohibitively expensive. "A soy latte at Starbucks is more spendy than Dutch Bros, but I prefer the Starbucks lattes". I had recently read that it was most common in the PNW. I can't remember not hearing the term, but I've been an Oregonian now longer than I was a Californian. I don't think I've ever referred to something as 'pricey'. It would either be expensive or spendy.

I was also thinking about this thread after hearing the the News Quiz on Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me. One of the items on the News Quiz asked something to the effect of "This influential individual died 50 years ago this week", of course Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was the correct answer, but my objection was to the usage of "died". Yes, he died, but more importantly, he was murdered, nay, assassinated, and their use of "died" sounded beyond non-optimal, it sounded WRONG. This thread remains very thought provoking, and I appreciate everyone's musings.
