Pottery Barn Dinnerware
Comments (30)When we were down to TWO bowls in our everyday dish set I started looking for something new. I found (surprise!) Christmas dishes that don't look very Christmassy, a Southern Living product produced in conjunction with Ballard Designs. They were inexpensive to begin with, and after the post holiday sale price AND a coupon, I think I got three sets of four place settings for what one cost originally. They are mostly white with a spray of greenery across the plate or bowl and the name of the plant in red script. I absolutely love them, and my meandering point is not to look in the obvious places for your dishes :-)...See MoreThe party/'fiesta''s ooooo-ver ...
Comments (35)I love the creamy color of your new dishes - and plain. I did recently buy some colorful bowls in green, gold, turquoise - and another color - maybe yellow? Bobby Flay. I wanted something more colorful for my soups/chili. or ice cream. 'I also love Franciscan Desert Rose and Apple' I had the apple dishes - I inherited from my MIL and used for over 20 yrs. I just got tired of them and there were soooo many! being alone since the kids are grown and gone I just didn't want or need them anymore. I gave them to one of my best friends (along with some silverplate serving dishes). She a lot younger and her girls were still young and she loved to entertain. Someone who could really use them! I bought myself a set for 4 of corelle that I still love after 14 yrs. The colorful bowls tho will add a spark of color. Sometimes we just need a change!...See MoreTalk me out of square dinnerware
Comments (32)Something I laugh about, which was probably only funny the first time... Watching a baby nephew pick up his bowl and drink out of it. On the flat side. Everything poured out of the bowl corners on the sides of his little mouth. All down his sides, down the high chair and onto the floor. He cried because he didn't get any. Mine have a high-ish lip. I got them at Tuesday Morning a couple of years ago. I love the round bowls and plates beacuse they're bigger. The plates I seldom use, because I use the other set of Fitz & Floyd. I have huge serving pieces for the squares. One bunch could be chargers. I've served roasts on them. The others I are HUGE pasta or serving dishes. They're square, but they also have an inner square, where the depth of the piece is probaby 2" deep. They're cool, but I have no place to keep them. These came in a black, matte-like finish and I've found pieces for years since that were definately not of this Prasidio set, but were the exact same finish. I admit I keep picking things up, but nothing square. There were a few pieces in a taupe, called "mink" that I bought at that same time. That's what I really wanted, but at Tuesday Morning (all 7 of them in my area) you get what they have left. I've quit buying dishes, tho, unless I find some of my discontinued Fitz & Floyd. I've given away a couple of sets of things on Freecycle. I think it is OCD, because I live alone and don't entertain. Who needs cupboards and cupboards of dishes? Comments (19)Even the old Corelle would shatter into slivers. I can remember mom and I staring in disbelief when one shattered. The pieces kept popping like Mexican jumping beans and we were left with a mess. This was over 40 years ago. I like some of the ideas posted above. I was just reading my DW manual - not even sure why. I saw something interesting. They recommend allowing plates to cool to avoid chipping. That being said - I usually don't and have not chipped my Villeroy and Boch porcelain in 2O years. (Knock on wood). DH broke one 6 inch bowl. I use them for e ymy everyday dishes but cost would keep me from using with kids on a regular basis. The key is porcelain is stronger than pottery I also have WS pantry. It is heavy. What is nice is it is oven safe and was reasonably priced. I only have 6 servings. I use it in my speed oven all of the time More recently I bought 24 serving of World Market. It is less expensive and lighter but can't tell you how it will hold up. I got tired of buying paper plates for parties and decided the return on investment was worth it. Also guests are less likely to spill or drop a plate of food....See Morealisande
