What's the best way to watch the pre-Oscar Red Carpet?

I don't have cable (and often don't have TV reception), so I've never seen the actors arriving on the Red Carpet, etc. This year I'll be watching with friends who have cable. Which channel covers the Red Carpet particularly well? And if you know what time the show starts, I'd appreciate that too.

For me it starts at 2:00 (Pacific Coast Time) on ABC. I will also check the Entertainment channel and flip back and forth. It looks like the actual awards show starts at 5:30 Pacific Coast time.

I was going to say the best way is in your jammies with a big bowl of popcorn, but since you'll be with company, I guess that isn't such a good idea!

We're on EST and it starts at 5:00 with "On the Red Carpet at the Oscars" and the actual Oscar show starts at 8:30 and ends at 11:00. I only see that it's on ABC. Actually, one channel is plenty, IMHO!

Enjoy watching with friends. Sounds like fun!

Did not watch the Oscars but looked through a few red carpet photo sites the morning after. While I agree there weren't any big winners this year, neither were there a lot of huge losers, either....mostly everyone looked presentable, at least. That light blue dress.....the fabric looked so cheap. I know it wasn't, of course, but it looked like fake fortuny with rhinestones. And Pink...what's up with the regulation short haircut brushed up stiff like that, or making long hair look like that? Pink, Jennifer Lawrence, several others. Kate Hudson, a roger rabbit refugee, brilliant, Annie! And finally, Pink's rendition of Over the Rainbow? I find it very sad that every singer has to sing songs with that vocal adornment technique that used to be reserved for soul music in the 70s. Now it is used to disguise or compensate for narrow vocal ranges and the fact that the voice cannot sustain long notes on an even tone. Nowadays a singer is a person who can sing enough, and has some schtick that makes him or her famous. Most of today's singers actually have terrible voices. The likes of Judy Garland, Karen Carpenter, Cass Elliott, Patsy Kline, Barbara Streisand and others with true star quality voices are mostly gone. Lea Michele is one singer who sometimes uses that type of vocalization but doesn't need it, and she would have killed that song at the Oscars.

I thought Charlize Theron looked stunning in every way. You have to have a perfect face to pull off that haircut. Youth helps too. Jennifer Lawrence and her dress were gorgeous, but I thought it looked too much like a wedding gown. Possibly the Best. Wedding. Gown. Do you know (and like) your friends well enough to get over to their house sometime today, and spend the night so you'll be there to watch the Oscars tomorrow? Of course, you'd have to spend tomorrow night at their house, too... It's a male friend, and NO. Although I'm sure he'd be perfectly agreeable. LOL Joann, he's a complete Luddite, and I'm not even 100% clear on what your suggestion involves (I've never had cable), so I think I'll jump on Georgysmom's idea and ask him to DVR the Red Carpet. He knows how to use a DVR. :-) Thanks, guys!

I read recently that George Clooney is still learning Italian. I don't know what was going on with him. I agree that the 'glaring looks' were just part of a gag but he acted so odd on the red carpet. I couldn't decide if he had been drinking, in a bad mood or had a fight with his girlfriend. And I didn't care for his shaggy locks. I don't find Sarah Jessica Parker attractive and it seems she selects her gowns just for their conversation points rather than what might be attractive. Her hairstyle reminded me of an elaborate geisha. Doogie was awful. I fear he's on the verge of over exposure. Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin weren't too bad but they certainly weren't all that entertaining either. Miley Cyrus needs a posture lesson and someone to help her select a dress that fits and is becoming. But then I got a glimpse of her mother last night and now I know why she looked the way she did. Many of the women were just lovely and I enjoyed their gowns - Meryl, Helen Mirren, Sandra Bullock, Cameron Diaz, Sigourney Weaver. I didn't even miss the musical numbers until someone here mentioned them. I loved that UP won. That's going to be one of my all time favorites.

Okay, so the pre-Oscar show and the Oscars are both on ABC. That's easy! I don't know if I want to get there so early.....maybe 7:00. Ninety minutes of fashion and banter is probably all I can handle anyway. LOL

Patti, yeah, I'll skip the jammies. But I think yoga pants will work.

Red Carpet Countdown starts at 5:00 on the TV Guide channel and at 5:30 Live From The Red Carpet is on E! network and 7:00 on ABC. I like to watch the E! network's red carpet.

E! network does not cover the actual Oscar broadcast, just the RedCarpet part. You will have to switch to ABC to see the Oscars. I'll watch E! and tape ABC because I like to see how the different hosts cover the show. E! will have Ryan Seacrest and ABC I think is having Michael Strahan who has never done it before. It should be fun.

When I first saw this post and before I opened and read it, this immediately come to mind. In a beautiful evening dress, jewelry and with a bottle of champagne.

Alisande, I should have mentioned that the big stars don't start arriving until 6:30-7:00. So starting at 7:00 is fine. I would recommend flipping between E! and ABC and decide which one you like best.
