| Gotten to the point my shoulder needs attention. Regular doctor sent me for x-rays, didn't come back good. Tried therapy, but doctor decided afterwards to see an orthopedic surgeon. I so do not want to have surgery at my age. So will see what comes from Tuesday's appointment. |
Follow-Up Postings:
| I wish you all the best, Glenda. I hope you get as good a dr as I had for my two knee replacements. Keep us updated, please. Shirley |
| Bummer! Sure h0pe y0u get g00d news and a nice l00king 0rth0pedic surge0n ;-) |
| Good luck, as might be in the same boat as you---at age 75. Had MRI x-rays taken yesterday, and am taking today off before calling my orthopedist to make an appointment. Done several weeks of the conservative/holistic route without any effect, except in my wallet. |
| My husband is 74 and he had shoulder surgery back in April. He is still sore, but he can use his arm.He goes tomorrow to get a follow up from the doctor to see if he can resume golfing.i wish you the best. |
| I have several friends that have had to have that surgery, and their quality of life has really improved, and they are doing fine. Surgery is no fun, but you gotta do what you gotta do. |
| Good luck, Glenda. I feel your pain--literally. I've been putting off the same kind of appointment. Living alone, I don't how I'd deal with a long recovery from shoulder surgery. Let us know how it goes. |

| Will be thinking of you. |
| I'll pray for you. Stay strong. |
| Have you mentioned this shoulder pain before and I missed it? Tell me more as I have shoulder pain and it really begins to bother me abouut 4 or 5 in the morning when I'm still trying to sleep. I'm older than you - 84 - and just discovering it is pretty common among us older folks. In the last year I've lost the ability to be holding something a bit heavy and not able to reach up to put it in the cupboard or the top shelf of the refrigerator. I get it down ok, but not up. I hope you don't need an operation. My GP wants me to go to a specialist and then said it would probably be therapy?? Today's doctor visit was to be fitted for diabetic shoes. |
| Glenda, I will say a prayer that you do not need surgery. Please keep us posted...we love you and care about you! |
| Had my right knee replaced at age 70. Left knee replaced at age 80. I'm now 4 months away from being 89, and I am having some right shoulder pain, which I haven't had looked at yet. I know some of it is what I refer to as "clickitis" caused by being on the computer. A lot depends on what the diagnosis of your shoulder pain is, and whether it is right or left, as to what might be done about it. As far as age is concerned, that is your choice to make. Think of it like this: if surgery is required, you can't get it any younger! Sue |

| I hope whatever it is, you can do well with physical therapy. My sister will soon be 85 and is have shoulder replacement surgery next month, She had some sort of shoulder tendon surgery a little over a year ago and she said it was a long recovery time. She has adult children living with her so helped her a lot. She is having something called reverse shoulder replacement which, from what I read, is a last resort surgery for older people. I will keep you in my healing thoughts and prayers. Keep us updated. |

| Mine is severe shoulder joint degenerative change with a loose body about1 cm in dimension, and dystrophic calcification with question of an old healed fracture: greek to me. Mary, over a period of year I've dealt with this, therapy several times, but it's a constant awareness now that something is wrong and needs more attention than what has been given. Well said Sue, if surgery is required, you can't get it any younger! That's why my doctor said last year, he'd rather not see surgery at my age. Plus I live alone. It's my left shoulder and I'm left handed. |

| Glenda, my hubby's shoulder is bone on bone. He was getting cortisone shots for a while, then he started taking Hyaluronic Acid tablets, and it has really helped. You might want to give that a try. It won't work immediately of course. The Hyaluronic Acid can also be given into the shoulder via shot form by an orthopedic surgeron. Ask the orthopedist about it. The pills were cheaper. Our orthopedic surgeon would rather not do surgery on Ivan's shoulder, saying shoulder replacement is not as successful as hips and knees, and that Ivan wouldn't have the range of motion that he has right now. We get the pills at the health food store.....Vitasource. |
| I've been taking the hyaluronic acid 120 mg daily for 3 months, plus glucosamine 1500, chondroitin 1200 mg. I have a list to show the orthopedist. Thanks! |

| I'm so sorry to hear this Glenda. I'm sure if you need the surgery, when it is all over, therapy and all, you will be so glad you had it. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow. P.S. Age is just a number...attitude is more important and you've got tude! |

| Have you thought about a Chiropractor that specializes in massage therapy? Sometime you have to look around to find one. Also have you had your vit D level checked and do you take any of the vit B;s Here is the northern climate they really make a difference. Just some suggestions. |

| Hope for the best but plan for the worst, gal. IF you end up having to have surgery, demand enough time to do some preparing. Stock your fridge and pantry with easy to fix stuff....try to be as healthy as possible. Do a little cooking ahead of time so that you have some comfort food ready to pull out of the freezer. Get some food from those restaurants you frequent! Getting dressed and undressed will be a PITA, as you already know....so think about that. Easy to pull on robes, etc. will be friendly to you. I've had very debilitating shoulder pain, too. Nothing like yours, mine responded to PT. But I've had months when I could not do things like hook or unhook a bra, do my hair, etc. I'm also left handed, and we seem to be MUCH more adaptable to using our right hand than righties are able to. Who's going to stay with you for a few days? You might be fine on your own, though uncomfortable, after just a couple of days. I'm sure that your son and grandson will be helpful. If I lived closer, I'd be over there in a minute. All my best to you.
