I LOVE Boone's Farm!!! LOL That is my type (and cost) of wine...when I drink wine.

Although, the girls just told me about Moscato d'Asti!! OH MY GOODNESS!!! That stuff is soooo good. Although, it is a bit more...it was $13! LOL See, I am a CHEAP drunk date! =) Caryn and I finished off a bottle of the Moscato d'Asti on Sunday night...Mmmmmmmm

Reed, For me it is a choice about health. I'd rather have blemished food any day of the week than food sprayed with chemicals. And, like Helen, I have plentiful wildlife and don't want to do anything that will harm it. My dad used all kinds of chemicals in the 1960s and 1970s but by the 1990s had mostly given them up and, if anything, his garden's health was better after he almost totally eliminated pesticide usage than it was before. He still kept a bag of Sevin dust in his shed and might have used it occasionally, though I don't remember him using it in the 1990s and beyond. I kind of think he held on to it as a sort of security blanket just in case he might need it again. I have found that if I treat my garden as an ecosystem, it is chock-full of all sorts of living creatures, both good and bad, but about 75% of the time the good bugs and other creatures keep the bad bugs under control. The remainder of the time I try to ignore the pest damage as much as possible, and then use eco-friendly methods like hand-picking the bugs to gain some control over them. I'm in a wild rural area surrounded by thousands of acres of rangeland in its natural state so it would be impossible to wipe out all the garden pests even if I tried, and I don't try. I practically live in my garden, at least until the worst heat arrives, and I don't want to be in a chemical-treated garden. Different strokes for different folks, though, and I know some people are perfectly happy using synthetic pesticides in their gardens and yards. Helen, One of the great joys of being out in the garden is my enjoyment of all the little creatures out there with me. Sometimes the skinks do startle me in early spring, but I'd rather have them in the garden than have the venomous snakes. Turtles provide a surprising amount of pest control too, though turtles are less common in my garden than frogs and toads, which are simply everywhere. Every year we do have a turtle or two live in the garden and eat potato bugs. It is the easiest method of Colorado Potato Beetle control I've ever used. Susan, I haven't seen one in several years, so I am hoping that horrible summer was an aberration. Neighbors within a mile of us saw some last year, but they are significantly closer to the river so they always have more wildlife than we do. Venomous snakes also haven't been as bad in 2011 and 2012 as they were prior to that. I still see them, but mostly I've seen the water moccasins move into the lily pond after the local native creeks and ponds dry up, and haven't seen as many copperheads as usual. The timber rattler population seems unchanged, but I only encounter them maybe 4 or 5 times a year. I hate having the venomous snakes around, but suspect we'll have just as many 20 years from now as we have now. Actually, out here in the rural areas we need snakes and lots of them or we'd be totally overrun by field mice, voles, pocket gophers, etc. It is just that I don't want the venomous snakes in the yard or garden where they might bite a person or domestic pet. They can roam roughly 13 acres of our property however, whenever or wherever they please, but if the venomous snakes are found on the acre or acre and a half nearest the house, we shoot them. Dawn

Paula, Thank you for the offer but I don't collect gobs and gobs of seeds. I just collect a few seed heads of things I think others might like to grow and a few for myself for the next year if they are annuals. I shouldn't say this here on the garden web but I toss most seeds in the trash as I am cleaning up my gardens ( take a deep breathe, stop gasping...lol). I think this year I will collect more than usual because I feel like a cheap skate when I see some of the other seed packets in swaps...lol I have added the petunias to your gift package and again, thank you for the offer. About an hour ago. Hubs and I went out to dinner with my sister and niece (niece was up from SoCal for the day). We shared the dessert item "brownie lasagna." It's a HUGE very rich, very dense brownie that has been sliced horizontally. Then HUGE scoops of vanilla bean ice cream are put on the bottom piece of the brownie; and the top piece of brownie goes over the ice cream. Then, a nice thick raspberry sauce is poured over it, and lots of thick and creamy whipped cream. YUM. Whomever first thought up the idea of putting chocolate and raspberries together should be Sainted.

Igloo- I was searching for something (can't remember what now, becuase I found this fun thread...gee how often does that happen on GW......). Anyways, back to the point! I have two ideas for you, one is in my current very sad, very much falling aprt kitchen, I have one thing I actually like! And that is the chalkboard that I painted directly on the wall, and then "framed" with cover molding, and then glued corks onto the cove! They fit perfectly, it looks great, and you can use push pins on it to stick notes on there. Could be fun for the little guy too, since it frames a chalkboard. My other idea which I have been saving for, seriously, 10 years or so, is to make knobs for cabinets or furniture out of champagne corks!! You just screw through the front (pre-drill)and attach by going through the wood!! One other idea is to slice the corks and make little pads for the bottoms of furniture. BTW, I ran out of room on the chalkboard a long time ago....

Yes, I was so surprised at all the 'new' flavors. Boone's Farm was the 'thing' when I was in high school. Now I feel like I am reverting, and am embarrassed to be buying them for my sherbert float experiments. LOL!

I'm going to have to give that one a try. The group I ran with in the 60s thought we were becoming sophisticated by drinking wine, even if it was Boone's Farm. :)

Boone's Farm over sliced strawberries is a favorite summer refresher. It's best if you can prepare it in advance in a pitcher and let it chill for a while.

If they bottled it in blue bottles...I'd buy it just for the bottle....I can't find any blue bottles anymore...and I still want a bunch for a blue bottle tree.

You can have the liquid inside....lol

DH and I used to drink BF all the time...strawberry! I think I'll look to see what I can find now. Didn't know they still made it! This one sounds good....LOL!

Boone's Farm is great stuff. Even people who say they dont like wine, usualy like it. By the way Sandy, moscato di asti is made by many different companies (my fav is BOSC) and I have found it for around $10. Excellent wine, but like you said, a little more costly.

I love Boones Farm (Arbor Mist is my second fav) I told the kids about a year ago that I remember Boones Farm when it was $1.25/bottle! LOL Now its up to $4! LOL

TJ Swan (sp) was my favorite back in the late 70's, early 80's. It had to have been super cheap because I didn't have much money back then.

The Blueberry sounds good. One of my favorite wines in Blackberry Arbor Mist.

OH MY GOSH!!!!! HOW could I have forgotten TJ Swan!??! My maiden name was Swan, and I thought it was soooo cool to drink that! Easy Days, Mellow Nights! =) Ohhhh the memories of my youth! I was given MANY bottles as house warming gifts when I moved into my first apartment!

Had to look it up to see if it is made any longer...don't believe it is.

msprettyky...that is the kind we had! Pattico...they are in pretty blue bottles too! I will keep it, and someday we will get together again and you can have them! =)
