Sounds like drug deals going on....my friend had the same thing in her neighborhood. I would call the police so they can monitor the situation or are at least aware.

call the cops..but you have to do it while the traffic is still there! found that out the hard way when I had some joker doing a "bong" right outside MY window! I had his car plate # but the sheriff couldn't anything without seeing personally..

if there's that much traffic, on a quiet street? I would call! besides no matter how many doors you have locked, if they need cash for drugs they'll break it down...know that the hard way, too!

Sounds like all signs of drug dealing happening there. I'm sure the mother of the kid who is home all day is not naive to what is going. Call the police and let them know of the "suspicious activity".

Sorry, but this sounds awfully presumptuous. Past criminal activity is not an indication of current activity. What else do you have? Traffic? He's young. Kids come and go and so do their friends. That's not sending up red flags for me. And I'm not sure it would for the police. It's important for you to log, in writing, whatever you can. License plates numbers, descriptions of people, specific dates, times, and activities. Then go to the police. "A lot of traffic" hardly indicates anything.

It's like going to the doctor because of back pain. I know three people who all said the same thing. They all knew "something" was really wrong, but all they had was back pain. My nephew had leukemia. High white count did that to him. My friend had other symptoms and then testing decided it was pancreatic cancer. So far, it always sounds bad, right? My officemate's father had "back pain". Another MD and he both decided it was aortic dissection. It's almost always fatal. They were sure he was going to die. He had a fractured vertebrae. Broken bone is hardly going to kill you. Talk about overreacting! Which I told them they were. Glad I was right!

Get the facts. All of them. Could truly be drug dealing, but not necessarily.

I live just a skip off of the I 5 corridor and know that it is THE West Coast route for drugs and other stuff. And it is hundreds of miles from one large city thru our area to the next large city a hundred + miles north. With that knowledge, and knowing that our "cops" are aggressive in their pursuit of 'outsiders', I would most likely be very cautious. I would pay more attention to the license plates, make note of the irregular activities and check with the neighbors to see if they are noticing the same thing. Then, most likely, talk to the authorities.... hopefully just to have them monitor the situation. My DS lives with us, and has had some issues with the police in our town... nothing criminal... just the autistic son mis-behaving in school, and the divorce that drew attention to the situation (ours too, brief but much over-reacting by every one).
I have to tell you, being the mother, and having my son taken to the mental facility of our hospital and held over night... was the most traumatic event in my life..... and yet, as I write this today almost two years since this event, I am not sure but that 'cooling off' period for his family wasn't the best thing. Would not want to go thru it again.... and I would be cautious about putting a neighbor thru that situation if there was no cause for concern.

Sorry rob...the assumption is not based on past criminal behavior, but what is going on now....I have 3 kids who were all teenagers/20's....not one ever left and came back 20 times a night or had "friends" stop by outstide constantly for a minute or two..only after dark.

This is most likely drug deals....his mother either knows but doesn't want her kid thrown in jail again so looks the other way or she is extremely naiive.

This activity will bring your neighborhood down. If word gets out it might hamper sales/home values, not to mention the threat of break-ins and who knows what else. I would try to nip this in the bud ASAP, but if it has been going on for years, the police may already know about it. A neighborhood watch group may have to be started to end the activity. If all else fails, you could always try talking to the parents.

Sounds very suspicious to me. Not so out of the ordinary for an entire family to be in the drug business. This very scenario occurred recently where the whole family was arrested for dealing drugs in a suburban neighborhood. The police were alerted to the situation by neighborhood complaints.

If it was me, I would go to the police station and have a little chat. I would share with them the activity I have seen and ask them to quietly check it out. If it is nothing, no harm done, but if it is illegal activity, it should be taken care of.

Depends on how involved you really want to become. Are you close enough with other nearby neighbours who you can talk to and see what they are noticing. If so, then perhaps you can go to the police as a group of concerned neighbours.

Supicious, sure. But does it rise to the level of monitoring by the police? Not really. Track it, is all I said-a few days worth ought to do before stirring up a hornest nest. Well, I did say stop assuming and track it. But it'd be like the case on which I got kicked off. I too know about "drug corridors" (like the WEST corridor), the types of suspcious behavior associated with mules, etc. and I said nope, I'm pretty much already assuming here (which is what got me kicked off). When 1+1 does equal 2, then sure. But just 1 all by itself? That's just not enough (past criminal activity doesn't really count, loads of ordinary people have been there).

Go ahead, ask, but don't surprised if you get a, "Thanks for letting us know", but nothing more-if loads of cars are all there is to go on. Are there suspicious looking people? What makes them suspicious? What times of the night? How often? These are things that can make it 1+1.

This isn't the stock market...past behavior (criminal) can indeed be a predictor of future behavior. What you have observed may or may not be anything of significance. If it were me, because you have some degree of suspicion (justified, imo) I would have a conversation with a law official & get their advice as to what, if anything, you should do. I don't think I would *ever* bring the topic to either parent in this situation.

90% of the vehicular activity is by the young man who will leave in his vehicle and return in ten or fifteen minutes later only to leave again in half an hour.

There is never a bunch of cars driving by and stopping, though fairly often someone will drive by slowly and beep the horn.

So, there are no license plate numbers to take down, no strange characters lurking around, no window rattling car stereos.

Just the back and forth activity of the guy, night after night.

What I will do is to document the comings and goings for a few days...just to get an average and to note if this goes on every night. We really don't keep close track (it sounds like we're busy bodies, lol), but only notice things by accident.

The law enforcement bodies here are very professional and responsive. I'd have total confidence in talking with them confidentially. I would never, ever talk to his family about it.

OK....starting tonight we will take notes. Over the weekend, when we stay up later, we can observe how late his activities go on.

I would tread very carefully. I come from the type of family you have described (I was the only one who did not want to live that type of life and got out) - and they are a vindictive bunch.

You absolutely do not want them to know that you discussed the issue with the police - and you do not want your neighbours suggesting it was you either.

The police might keep an eye on the house but their presence would be noticed. And they might tell you that they can do nothing until something has actually happened. That is what they told me when I was trying to get out of the mess I was living in. They did understand my situation and the threats made against me, but sadly unless the threats were carried out they could do nothing. So just be very, very careful. And don't become the scapegoat for your neighbours to blame. The fact that your living room faces their house might make the people assume it was you who spoke with the police, when it might well have been another neighbour - who would not take credit for it.

That's just what I'd do. Take notes for awhile to make sure what you think is happening is accurate. Then chat with the police.

IMO neighbors need to get involved if something is looking odd. We need to start caring for each other. That may mean that you discover nothing at all is amiss, but it may also mean that you've stopped a crime and kept many others safe.

I once lived in a 'run down' neighborhood, after my divorce. It had one way in and one way out. All of us, who lived in the neighborhood, drove very old, beat up vehicles. I began noticing Mercedes, Corvettes, Lincolns etal driving past my house and returning about 10 minutes later.

As time would prove, there was a new neighbor who was running a meth house. He was discovered when the house burned down - sure sounds like you have illegal activity going on in your neighborhood, too.

For your safety, tell an authority that you know, personally, because you hear of police 'ratting' on the rat (to the dealers) and there ends up being horrible things happen to the rat - be very careful!

Definitely have a chat with the police. I'd bet my house it's drug dealing. That's crazy behavior, and I had a teen son and have a teen grandson now. Very suspicious but remain anonymous.

The police will ask for information..so do as your doing but take notes.
Then in a few days place a phone call.

We've had a bunch of burglaries on our neighborhood. The police cannot be everywhere at once and they encourage us to report anything out of the ordinary. As they say, we know better than they do about what is unusual in our neighborhood and not to hesitate to call them. Having someone stop and beep their horn in front of their house (and also your house) sounds unusual to me. I would talk to the police -- soon.

Rhizo, I think you have the right idea. Take some notes so you have more than just vague timing to explain, then have a conversation with someone in your law enforcement to express your concern. Most places are short staffed these days, they can't know whats going on everywhere and can't know you are concerned if you don't tell them.

You don't want drug activity in your neighborhood, a household with cash present or 'merchandise' that could be an easy mark for unreportable theft. Even if he's not the worst crime element himself, your teen neighbor would certainly be inviting it in for the rest of you.

A few well timed drive-bys from your police or sheriff might be enough to quiet things down. You might even be surprised to find law enforcement already aware of the address if its been busy for long....

Thanks, everyone, for the helpful comments. I don't know why I feel the need to do something about it after all this time. It's past time I did, though.....just for my own peace of mind.

He's not a teenager, but at least 22. He's as quiet as a mouse, for someone that age. No loud music, no speeding....just this very suspicious behavior. He's been in and out five times already with each little trip taking about twenty minutes.

When I read your post, I saw all kinds of red flags indicating drug dealing. I would talk with the police but DO NOT have them come to your house, you go to the police department.

It is odd. But if he is delivering drugs than he probably doesn't want to get caught with everything on him at once.
What can the police do? Is it against the law to go to and fro from your home multiple times in one evening?
What exactly is your complaint? "Officer, I have noticed that my across the street neighbor comes and goes multiple times during the evening."
Is the an anonymous hotline that you can leave a tip? I would just not want anything to be directed back at you.
Too bad you can't follow him one night.

Definitely sounds like illegal activities to me as well.
And dropping by the police department to make a report sounds smart.

Something new in this mystery and I thought you'd be interested. After a few days of keeping an actual count of my neighbor's comings and goings (from our comfy chairs in the living room, lol) , his vehicle has suddenly been parked and hasn't moved for days, nearly a week.

I should say, at least not during the times of day or night that we were able to notice. The truck has seemingly remained in the exact location
for six days.

Everything else over there seems normal, but haven't seen hide nor hair of him. So now, it's as quiet as can be over there. Except when the front door opens and all of their dogs come out! I think that they have a total of five....all tiny breeds and cute as the dickens.

They come tearing out into the yard, yapping and running laps around the yard on their bitty legs, then racing back to the house all at the same time.

Well, if it was illegal activity, I might wager to guess where he's gone. If so, I am glad you didn't have to do anything. Whew. And if he's gone on vacation, well, at least you got a break from all the activity. Enjoy the cutie dogs!
