My husband has called me Lindsey since 1981, and several of our friends then started calling me Lindsey, too. When I first signed up here I tried to sign up as Lindsey, but got an error message that the name was already taken. So, I added the _CA at the end because I'm in California.

Then I recalled that in my teens a guy at the bar I went to would always greet me with "What's the deal,Wild Child?" instead of using the nick I normally went by.

Ummm.....wanted my name to be plain and simple ~ no numbers, letters, etc. I wanted it to be JUSTLINDA, so here I am!

My real name is Janice and my nickname is Jan, but those were both taken on GardenWeb, so I'm known as "Jannie" a nickname my Grandmother used to call me.

I was trying to think of something other than my first name, so I was thinking of my beautiful DD who is from India (MissIndia) and will be 19 in the year 2020. I wish I could post her photo and you'd see what I mean. We have never been able to take her anywhere without people ooooing and aaaaahin over her. (we can't take any credit because she's adopted) Her nature and heart are the only things more beautiful! :)

My name is Vanette. My grands call me Vannie and some of my friends do, too. No one mispronounces it, whereas very few people pronounce "Vanette" correctly. It rhymes w/ Annette, not Janet. I've been called a lot of things!!

When I signed up, lo these many years ago, I had had it with my job and really wanted to retire, but couldn't. When I finally did retire 4 years ago, I added "Did" and never looked back :-)

Mine's easy too! The kids could never pronounce the "r" in granny!

Mine is arosegirl because I have over 250 roses in my gardens. One of my friends was talking about me and couldn't remember my name and said you know....the rosegirl.

Drew is my oldest GK (only one when I signed on.) Maga is what my niece decided (when she was learning to speak --her other Grandma is "Grandma" --to call my Mom. Drew (& 3 sibs) call me Grammy b/c when it was time for Drew to call this Grandma something, I didn't have the nerve to ask Mom if I could use Jennifer's special "Maga" name for me. . . . Sigh

When I originally registered back in the Spike days, I was VickersJo. When I tried to post after an absence, I couldn't remember my password. So, I re-registered as Vicki_LV_NV as in Vicki from Las Vegas, NV.

Now, I can't post under that name for some reason and now I am just Vicki_LV...Vicki from Las Vegas

I also registered back in the Spike days (I used to think posters were kidding about there being a Spike - he sounded ominous or godlike, lol). I used my first name & CA for my state - without stopping to think that it also stands for Canada. Dumb. If I were registering now I would probably do something such as oldsoucabroad!

Vannie,I can't believe people mispronounce your name to rhyme with Janet! That's about as dumb as the people at our clinic who call my mother, Anne, "ANNIE? YOU'RE NEXT!" lol Geez.

50% of it is pretty obvious. I do take a look at things, often with a cautious eye. Seldom take things only at face value.

However, the other 50% has never been guessed. After being called a "cynic" a few times, I decided to see what all the definitions really were for the term. There's one that is seldom known. Long time ago there was a philosopher named Antithones who was a follower of Socates and had his own following. He believed that virtue, integrity, honesty, morals etc were important characteristics in a person. Followers believed his principles were important attributes for a person and those followers were known as "cynics". Well, what can I say? I AM a "cynic" in more than one meaning of the word. And proud of it.

I started posting on one of the garden forums and wanted my name to relate to my garden. I moved into my house in 1998 and started tearing out all the old shrubs and planting my garden on the weekend of summer solstice that year. I'm not Wiccan, as some GardenWebbers have asked, or mystical, or a crystal-carrying advocate of dancing naked in the moonlight (well, not often anyway) but I do think gardeners are tied to the seasons in a special way. I've had the name since I first started posting here and still like it.
In my neighborhood we now have an annual summer solstice party, but seriously, we don't sacrifice any virgins or anything. We just roast a lot of corn and eat a lot of burgers.

It is a reflection on my childhood.

As a baby, Perdita was left to die because her father mistakenly believed her to be another man's child. She was rescued by a shepherd, who called her Perdita because she was lost.

A loooonnnnggggg time ago in the age of CB radios, I was the home base for our county and my "handle" was Jaybird. It is a play on my initials, and has stuck with me everysince! Some locals still call me Jaybird face to face :^)
