Super Bowl Non-Fans, What Are You Doing?

I'm not a football fan, never watch the game. Hubby is a fan, so his TV will be on. I usually take this day to clean out and defrost my basement chest freezer, but it's too warm for that- the forecast is 50 degrees for this afternoon. I like to do this chore once a year, when it's really cold out. I empty the freezer, put all the food outdoors , then defrost and wipe the freezer insides clean. Plug it back in and replace the food. but it's too warm for that- maybe I should go to the movies or do another indoor cleaning chore. What are your plans for today, any non-fans?

My plan just got snowed under. Plan was, drive to Tulsa for a birthday lunch with my birthday club lady friends... but now, it is snowing, with very cold wind/windchill and more snow for the rest of the day....

I decided to stay home. I know, the turnpike will have at least one lane free, but the roads to and from will be slick and I like my car to much to risk getting slid in to.

Now I have to decide on a plan B.

Going to an impromptu party.
Not one bit interested in watching play-by-play, but it will be a fun group of friends. I can let the best seats in the house go to those who will actually be there to watch the game.

Not very long really. Depending on how high you have it set, how humid the surrounding air is and how thick walled the peppers are, it should take just a few hours. Make sure you cut open the peppers before you dry them. Don't try to dry them whole or it will take a long time. At least halve them before drying. I also suggest drying on a lower temp for a longer time. It seems to dry them more evenly. 120 degrees is good. Adjust higher or lower as you desire. Ohhhh, one other piece of advice regarding dehydrating super hots. Make sure you completely clean the trays after wards. I didn't one time and almost ruined a 10 pound batch of beef jerky. I usually add some pepper poweder to the marinade of my beef jerkey but just the residue from previously drying a bunch of Nagas the day before made the jerky nearly inedible. On a positive note, I didn't have to worry about it disappearing in two days like most of jerky batches do. Bruce

We'll be cheering for the Patriots!! We are going to a friend's house to watch it on thier tv. I will probably bring aztec bean dip,yum, with tortilla chips. We won't be watching Tom Petty though....a few years ago we started a tradition that a leftover christmas tree gets burned during the half time....let me tell ya, they burn pretty well by Feb. Its pretty funny, the boys all stand around the tree in the snow and make attempts at "lighting" the tree, and then eventually whoosh...and half-times over. GO PATS!!

My first thought when I hear "steamer" is some kind of Chinese dumpling as well! Probably because that's what I use mine for mostly! A good "cheat" for them is to just cook up some ground beef or turkey (I don't eat pork, but the traditional methods use ground pork) flavored with minced garlic & ginger, some sliced scallions and chopped water chestnuts, some soy sauce, sesame oil, maybe a touch of five spice powder - whatever flavors you like - then get a package of those refrigerator biscuits. The regular one's not the huge "grand" ones. Flatten out the biscuit, put a tablespoon or so of your mixture in the middle then bring up all the sides around and pinch it at the top to kind of seal the dough, then steam them. They're more filling than using a traditional dim sum wrapper, but not everyone has access to those. I think the biscuits are a "cheat" that works very well. Have fun at your party! Lisa

Our friend is making a classic spinach dip. Another is bringing dessert of some sort. I'm bringing the munchies: cheeses, bread, crackers, summer sausage and beef/turkey meatballs in mushroom sauce (no pork, as one person is Muslim). All of us love cheeses but seldom get to indulge in an all-out cheese tasting so I sprang for some of our favs: Cypress Grove's honey chevre and Humboldt Fog; Marin French's triple creme brie, Cowgirl Creamery's Mt. Tam, Bellweather's Carmody and Jasper Hills Cabot Cheddar. Bread is fresh-baked today from a good local bakery, smells wonderful. Crackers are from a little company some Midwesterners might be familiar with: Potters Crackers from Madison, WI. They recently established a Sacramento CA office and have been making inroads into the restaurant industry. We encountered their Caramelized Onion Crisps, which come in both a flatbread and baguette style, and liked them a lot. A touch of sweetness from Blenheim Apricot jam from a wonderful little artisanal local company called WeLoveJam. It's a couple that fell into preserve-making when they bought a property that contained remnants of one of the last remaining Blenheim orchards left in Silicon Valley. That's right, Apple, Google, Facebook, Oracle, et.al. are all built on what used to be some of the most fertile fruit orchards in the U.S. They make the least-sweet jam we've ever tried, and offer several unusual varieties such as Elephant Ear Plum (tastes like cherries!) and feijoa (tasting like a stupendous cross between pear, apple, pineapple, and super-fragrant lime). I buy a mixed case from them every year, but we love the apricot best and have turned several people into big fans. We're rooting for Denver, since our hostess is from there and loves Peyton Manning. Hard to see how they can beat Carolina, though. But at least we'll have a good time together, LOL.

Neither of us are football fans. We're taking a couple of friends to Costco today.

I just made some bran muffins and we're having one with our coffee.

Not sure. A bit of drizzle here, but it's warm. Dh will have the tv on. I'll probably catch a commercial or two and the half time. Need to clean some more, but it's hard to do with everyone being home. Maybe I'll put my mudroom shelves together.

We never watch the Superbowl. Or the Canadian version: The Grey Cup. Unless Calgary is playing and even that's not a promise. It's just another Sunday for me. I need to shower and get my bedding washed. I just took 12 eggs out of the oven. I baked them scrambled with onions and ham in large muffin cups to take one a day for breakfast, to work. They're just cooling on the counter right now before I pop them out of the cups. Other than that, not sure what I want to do. I bought a bucket of paint to paint my hallway, but I need to be in the mood to do that. I'm so not in the mood....

Just did my freezer yesterday, the inside room was 50 degrees. Emptied food, put my little heater inside, and in 20 min the chunks of ice came loose. Done. Found a Cornish Hen to cook later today.
Have never watched a game, and don't intend to start now. Cleaning the basement would be more interesting.

Neither of us is fans. We took the cameras out, hiked around in the snow, found a herd of big horn sheep. Came home made a BIG breakfast/belgian waffles & bacon. Will cook, clean, changed the sheets on the bed....throw the ball for the cat..

The grandkids just left :-( I will miss them but enjoyed them so much while I could. It'll be another year before I see them again since they live in California. So the rest of the day will be spent grocery shopping and playing on the computer.

Wow, Nicole, that sheep is a beauty. I would love to see something like that in the wild.

I'm not a fan but I watch anyway since my mom and my son are fans. I hope Downton Abbey is on as usual tonight. I will switch over to that if the game and all the hoopla is still going on. I don't give a rat's ass who wins. However, I am looking forward to hearing Renee Fleming sing the national anthem.

Well the tv will be on here..it's the Championship game..lol..even though hubbies Steelers had a bad beginning to the season..he loves Football!

We need to find out what happened to Yellow. ~wink~

I have laundry going and pulled some fruity spring scents out of the cabinet for candle making..
I have a few yummies on the list to make for snacking..easy stuff..

So I will most likely spend this Sunday like most..laundry..ipad time and hanging out in the kitchen mixing and making.
