I have big winter floor mats - rubber ones with grooves - that hold the snow and ice and water. They cover the entire floor - your mat looks way too small. But I've never had that much snow inside my vehicle. Stomp your feet before you get it.

I started doing the following this winter: When I'm getting in my car and my boots are covered in snow/slush/salt, I sit sideways in the seat first and tap my feet together while they are still outside and knock off most of whatever is on my boots. It really helps. A rubber winter mat on top of your carpet mat really helps, too. The inside of my car has never looked as bad as your photo - ha ; ) - and I live in Canada.

I don't have near the snow you have, but do like Dee, and knock my feet together before putting them in my car. Then, when I arrive at home, I dump what ever had dropped on the floor mat anyway, before driving in to the garage.

I'm another foot knocker. Think of it as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, only instead of clicking your heels together, bang the entire inside of your foot. ;-)

We put layers of newspaper on the floor. When they are wet, we replace it. Of course, knocking our boots before entering the car is a given.

The newspapers absorb the moisture and also stops the inside windows from getting frost on it. Yours must frost up?

Your floormats look way to small to me too. Mine go all the way up under the pedals, curve up the sides, they are quite heavy but pliable, nothing gets on the carpet in the car.

The mats in my car were expensive, but this is the second SUV I've used them in, they are probably 12 (?) years old.

This isn't so much snow country although we have snow today, it's rain and mud country. DH keeps similar mats in his truck, and two grown men in boots and raingear can hike in the woods all day, slog through creeks and beaver ponds, nothing wet or dirty on the truck carpets either. Truck is cleaned at the end of every work week, mats are taken out and scrubbed, hosed, on the weekends I can get in wearing either black, or white, and not have to worry about getting anything on my clothes.

That rug should be unfolded to cover more area. The other ones are bigger. Guess I'm too lazy to change it more frequently. It's only snow. People with rubber mats get iced up too, and has to be knocked off. Stomping only picks up more snow. Banging feet doesn't get the bottom of the shoe clean. It's just there, clean it when you feel like it.

I sit sideways and whack my heels against the car. Judging by the amount of crud in my car, I'm only doing a half decent job. Doesn't the snow melt when you turn on the heater? The refreeze?

I need better car mats.

Its been a long time since I've had to deal with snow. I remember banging my feet against the door frame before getting in. If snow is sticking in the grooves or your boots, maybe a scrub brush would help. Hold you foot out the door and whack or brush the snow off.

I use old bathroom mats. The pile is generally thick and not much snow stays on top of the pile. I have two, one inside ready for snow and the other one hanging on a line (out of the way). The ones I use are bigger than the space needed, so I just fold them. That way, I just have to turn it over before I gotta think about changing them out.

I always banged my boots against the door frame to knock the snow off them before climbing in the car.

I also turned the car on so it would slowly get warm while I scraped the windows outside.

My car took forever to get heat as it was small car and yes, I had to scrape with fingernails and wipe the inside to see while driving. Once it was warm the heat plus having the defroster on both front and rear window cleared them up.

Yes, take the scraper and scrape off the bottom of your boots.

For outside frost, I just push the washer button. Buy the anti-freeze stuff to fill your jug (not the regular). Why can't windshield have an electric de-icer, like the back window?? If inside frost is a problem, keep an OLD credit card (or similar) handy, makes a great scraper. Hope to put these winter tools away soon.

This winter has been terribly cold and snowing a lot up here in Ohio. You are tracking in way too much snow. When you sit down, you need to hit our feet together to get the snow off and not pull it inside of your car. I don't get any snow other than just a few flakes on my mat. Other than that, you need some heavy mats that you can take out and shake them when you get home I suppose. I think an ounce of prevention and all that is the best thing to do!

This morning I found another inch or so of the white stuff on my car. I brushed the snow off three times, in my driveway, in the diner parking lot and a third time at the laundromat while my clothes were inside washing. Yes, I tap my boots on the car frame before getting in. Plus an occasional trip to the carwash, where they get everything squeaky clean.
