So sick of being sick!

I have had a horrible cold for 2 weeks tomorrow! I hate this...DR gave me a list of OTC to try and the only thing that gives me any relief is MusinexD...the stuff is great! I haven't slept a full night in 2 weeks, I wake up between 1:00 and 3:00 am everynight and can't breath, so I stay up. 'The lack of sleep is wearing on me. DH started violent vomiting on Sunday night and it last until Tuesday, he's been home for the last 4 days with a flu virus like no other he's ever had! I'm terrified that I'm going to get it too, I've been carrying a can of Lysol around for days.... This is getting very old!

Oh my, there's a serious virus going around. I had in once in October and a more serious one recently, right after Christmas.

That nasty virus has strucked almost everyone in my family and we don't even live close by!

There's also strep throat that is going around too. Be careful everyone!

Remember, that a cold or flue should not last more than 14 days (normally only lasts 10 days). If it does, it's an indication of something more serious. Then, you'd need to go to the doctor.

Hope you and your DH get over with it soon.

In the mean time, keep warm and rub some "Tiger Balm" on your chest and on your upper back. Sometimes, you can find it at Walmart in the over the counter drug section.

If you need some congestion relief, you can scoop up a little of the Tiger Balm with a toothpick and disolve it in a ceramic mug filled with hot steamy water. Don't drink it. Just place it close to your nose and sniff it a few times. You'd be able to breath almost right away.

Forgot to include a link about Tiger Balm. It is a Chinese medicine rub similar to Vicks.

I have a bottle just about every room in my house and even 1 in the car and 1 in my purse! It's great on mosquito bites. It relieved the itch and the bump!

Fairegold, as strange as it seems, your message was an encouragement to me. It's good to know others are dealing with similar issues. My 90 year old mother is in a lovely assisted living community. But every time I see her she has new complaints, especially about the food. Pork chops every day; no fresh vegetables, only canned; no spices; mashed potatoes, french, fries, potato chips; only chocolate for dessert...on and on it goes. Sometimes I just want to scream. But I don't. Instead I try to come up with ideas to "fix" things. But my fixes are never good enough. Anyhow, to you & the others who responded, as I said before, it's good to know there are others dealing with similar situations. Regarding your husband's hearing difficulties, I've worn hearing aids since I was in my mid thirties (I'm now 58). In fact, I got my newest pair about two months ago. They make such a difference in quality of life. And it's good for your husband to get them while he's still spry & able to adjust to new situations. My mother needs hearing aids, but I'm afraid that she won't make the adjustment & will end up not using them. The only adivce I can give (and, of course, you didn't ask for any) is that your husband make sure he gets his aids from a true audiologist, someone who will give him the best aid for his particular needs. Follow up is very important too. He should be able to see the audiologist every few weeks for almost six months, so adjustments can be made. He needs to tell his audiologist everything he notices -- a slight uncomfortable feeling, feedback problems, etc. Anything that concerns him. Nothing is too small. A good audiologist will make every attempt to correct problems. Under no circumstances should he just grit his teeth and bear it. (By the way, my new hearing aids have two microphones & are digital. They were expensive, but worth it.)

Sounds like your exercise is good, so you may need to concentrate on your nutrition. This website may be helpful: http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/cic_text/food/food-pyramid/main.htm I found the best weight loss is to eat only fruits and grains for breakfast/lunch (eat nothing else!) If I stayed hungry, I simply ate another banana, apple, etc until I didn't feel like eating ANYTHING else. Then I ate whatever I wanted for dinner. It took about a week+ to get used to it, but then my body felt MORE satisfied then when I was pigging out on fast food for breakfast/lunch. This in turn helped me exercise, for some reason it jacked up my energy bigtime (almost like a caffeine rush without the fall) and also reduced what I ate for dinner (which was usually pretty fatty). If you stay with this plan, you will need to buy more clothes because the fatty areas of your body will disappear very quickly! Make sure you eat proteins and take vitamin/mineral suppliments if you don't eat alot of vegi's and drink lots of water - no soda (even diet). Stay away from weight loss pills!! Go naturally!! 5 million years of evolution can't be wrong... :)

Would like to see your photos also. Mold and crud can buildup on the plastic drum in any TL or FL washer. This is not a new concept to FLs. Perhaps it may occur more frequently with FLs due to people oversudsing and the water level not being as high as it is with a TL.

This story has been going on for at least a month I think. This monster had an elaborate entranceway with at least 3 doors if I remember. He made the little girl dig her own dungeon, help drag in the heavy door and later expand the place after children were born. The wife was scared of him and he ruled with an iron hand. There are several stories in the Sun. This one has a sketch of poor Elizabeth and there are pictures of her when she was young. Also pictures of the wife and other kids. The monster also went on sex trips to Thailand and left them locked in there for two weeks at a time. The air was so bad in there the men had to air drill holes. And the 18 year old son walks bent over almost crawling and the boys have their own language with animal sounds. That sounds like some nasty, serious stuff going around. I don't know if it helps or not but I am going to try Vicks on my feet and then put some wool socks on next time I get sick. Sorry I can't tell if it helps or not. Hope you both are soon feeling better.

So many people I know have been sick with colds this winter except me. LOL My throat is starting to feel scratchy and I am hoping it is from the hot wings I had Wednesday for dinner.

You poor dear. Your household has really had its share of sickness.That crud must be all over. There have been so many people in this area sick with terrible colds or stomach viruses. The lady across the street had strep throat last week.

My DH has been off work all week with the flu also..head and chest cold.
So far I have escaped it...keeping my fingers crossed.

I thought I was having allergy problems from taking the xmas tree down, but maybe not. I was up around 1 am coughing and congested. Hope it doesn't linger for 2 weeks!! These OTC medicines are a joke-none is working. I've never tried Musinex though.

If you have a really heavy congested chest, you can make a mustard plaster to move everything out - I grew up with this before the time of OTC meds everywhere...

Take a hot mustard powder like keens or a dijon mustard, only about a tbsp, mix 2 tbsp of flour with water to make a paste, add the mustard, butter onto a wet cloth and stick it on your chest. Watch your skin carefully, it should not stay on longer than 10 minutes, or remove sooner if you skin is turning red. You will break out in a sweat, cough a lot (it breaks up chest cold gunk). DO NOT go outdoors. Do change any sweaty clothing as needed and stay under blankets or very warm. This actually does shock the body but if your at wits end with a congested chest, this works wonders and is an very old remedy. I had a neighbour do this for her extremely ill asthmatic daughter who she just brought back from emergency. After a bought of coughing she was able to breathe again and get to sleep while her medications from the hospital kicked in. She was coughing so bad I could hear her 2 floors down in my apartment.

I had bronchitis in November, now I've got another cold and sore throat. And I had a flu shot, dang it!

So sick of being sick!
