I've noticed that Europe's Best frozen fruit is from China. I don't buy it.

It's sad -- almost NOTHING is from or made in the US anymore! I very rarely buy anything from the freezer section, but did recently buy frozen haddock. I know that's it's a North Atlantic fish so I figured it came from the US, right? wrong... it was labeled from China.

Thanks for the warning. I will not eat any food that comes from China.

We eat 100 mile as much as possible, but in the winter it is really tough to do. But if it is made in China we don't buy it, eat it, use it, and if at all possible, wear it.

It is getting harder to find food grown and packaged either in the USA or Canada. I will buy from either. Thanks for the heads up about broccoli. Wonder how it comes in and what kind of water they use in China to keep it growing.

Your experience is a good reminder for everyone, of the good practice of checking labels before tossing food products into the cart. What you'll read is rarely pleasing, unless you're in a store or looking at products that you know are pre-screened to avoid undesirable factors. Whole Foods would be on that list, Walmart wouldn't be.

If I buy frozen veggies or food I always check where it comes from. My sister bought me a big beautiful bag of frozen broccoli from Costco and I think it came from Thailand. I try to avoid products not grown in Canada or the US. Even our fresh vegetables, most of them come from Mexico, except hot house tomatoes. I live close to the tomato capital of Canada. Most of our tomatoes in the stores are from Mexico off season and if we are lucky we get Ontario hot house which I always look for. Our locally grown cherry tomatoes or cocktail tomatoes are mostly for export markets. You can buy our locally grown Kingsville or Leamington tomatoes in Florida or Mexico but rarely in our stores. If you see them in your stores don't hesitate to buy them because they are the best.

Check you frozen fish too. I won't buy any HighLiner products after watching Marketplace. The fish is caught in Canada then exported to China where it is processed and then sent back to Canada.

CherryFizz, I was so disappointed a few years ago when I read the Highliner package of fish and saw that it's exported from China. It used to come from Quebec.

I don't eat food from China. A country that would poison its babies with adulterated formula from its best company cannot be trusted.

The "country" didn't do that, a company did.

But apparently one of the 'best' or most reputable (largest?) companies in that country did that, so ... take your chances with their quality controls and production standards.

This certainly confirms our suspicions about agriculture in China.

In Korea, over 50 years ago, human waste was collected from back-yard privies by a large half-gourd on the end of a stick, hauled in a bucket to a wooden tank on an ox-drawn cart and taken out to the country to be put on the land.

It as called "night soil".

Note also that chickens are sent to China for "cleaning and breakdown" and then shipped back to the US for sale.

Raised here, slaughtered, frozen but cleaned overseas. Makes no sense to me but the farmers say it is cheaper for them.

When talking the W store, I'd be more surprised to find SKUs from the US than from China. When shopping "The China Syndrome", I use the philosophy it's made in China until proven otherwise.

Even bigger names and labels that say US need scrutiny. Maybe is assembled in US of China components or US components assembled in China and other technicalities to fool label watches. And that happens not just at the W store but all over.

I already check fish, seafood, etc, but now I guess I'll add veggies and fruits to the list. Wow, a trip to the grocery store sure isn't as easy as it used to be!

wow, we will be in the grocery store all day just checking where things come from. Its bad enough we have to check for fats, calories, sugars etc... now its a country!
Be sure to check you pets food, a lot is coming out of China.

I'm so busy checking out dog food to make sure China has nothing to do with it, who ever would have thought broccoli!

Olejoyful, I saw on TV that they used human waste and was going to post it, but didn't think anyone would believe me.

I stopped buying frozen or canned vegetables/fruits a few years ago.
Only fresh vegs, potatoes and fruits. No canned or frozen meat either.
