Humidifiers

My dd needs to start using a humidifier, per her ophthalmologist's instructions for dry eyes. She'd rather not spend an arm and a leg and knows how important it is to dry the humidifier out thoroughly every day. Anyone have a recommendation?

Spend the money! I bought a cheap one, and took it back, cause it was so loud, I could not stand it.

Searched for a "bedroom humidifier", cause I found out, those are the quiet ones.

I now have a pureguardian Ultrasonic Humidifier.

I don't regret having spent the money.

I'm a vaporizor person.

Use one in my bedroom all winter long.

I like the cool mist.

Where I buy mine, is at the thrift stores. My one I use is I bought it for 45 cents and been using it for 5 years. Love it!

Something else that I use and it keeps going and going. Have a cheap small crockpot, that I have used for years.
Have in my condo kitchen and I love it.

One setting, and I refill each morning with two cups and before I head to bed with another two cups.

Elminates my dry nose!

FWW. I had a whole house humidifier installed and a very few years later had a huge mold problem. It's going to cost about $8,000 in repairs. Should get started next month. Be sure to monitor your humidity % every day.

Hi, my house humidifier just started making a strange banging sound when trying to operate. When it kicks on the fan works as I can hear it moving but it sounds like a banging sound when the water starts to run into it. It pulsates too, if I put my hand on the copper line I can feel the pulsating there too. Does this sound like the solenoid could be bad or something with the connection? It randomly started.

The first thing you should do is buy a humidity and temperature gauge. That will tell you if the humidifier is doing anything. In the winter most people are comfortable with the humidity 40-45% at 70-72 degrees. This type of humidifier can only add humidity when the furnace is operating. If the house is very dry and the furnace runs in short cycles, then the humidifier probably can't supply enough moisture to raise the humidity above 40%. Youi will have to monitor this during the heating season.

Try TERRO find it at Home Depot. Put a drop close to where they come in and out. Watch them but don't interfere. Don't kill them you want them to eat the food and take it to the rest of the colony. See if they come to eat and periodically change the and replenish it. sometimes takes a couple of weeks for them to disappear. Mostly it depends if they are trying to establish a new colony or are carrying food to another place. Eventually the queen and colony will die. Patience helps.

I bought the one linked below and have been very pleased with it.

I especially like how you can 'aim' the spouts on the top of it.

and knows how important it is to dry the humidifier out thoroughly every day.
Why? I've not heard of having to do that.

I bought a cheap one at first, and I noticed that it deposited a white film on everything. Spend the money.

Chemocurl, apparently it's easy to grow mold and mildew when they're not wiped out daily, though the more expensive ones can be cleaned a little less often. Yes, the white film (from hard water,) is the problem with the cheaper ones. Reading through Amazon reviews is daunting; I always read the one-star reviews first to see if they are just written by a whiny person, or rather truly have problems. :)

My humidifier has a filter on top, which I keep clean.

Love my thrift purchase! Keeps on working and working and working.

I use a Homes Warm Mist Filter Free. (The new generation of cold mist types all seem to have filters that need frequent replacing which can be an expensive pain in the behind.) I've had a few over the years because they don't last forever here where in winter the humidity gets down in the 15% range for months. The hard water sediment needs a periodic cleaning out with the warm - easy enough. None of mine have ever been noisy. And for peace of mind, I never put it down on the carpet - use a large plastic storage tote cover underneath.

The drug stores etc. here only seem to have the cold mist, but Bed Bath & Beyond always has a choice; Target, Walmart probably has them too ... think around $29.95 or less. I've found inexpensive has been more than adequate.

we have 2. (which the biggie is empty right now) dh has a smller one on his dresser(filter free), but have a big one in the lr...(10 gallon) it has a filter that last almost the entire season, but we also add special chemicals (from sears) and a scent...it's been pretty difficult to keep the big one filled with all the cold weather...in fact i'll go fill it asap...

She started a pan on the stove at a low simmer yesterday and will order one from Amazon--not sure which one she decided on.
