Anyone watching the ice skating now?

I am and I get so tense, hoping each one will do well. Seems like the ladies have been sitting on their bums a lot. It is so beautiful to watch, no matter. I am looking forward to the Olympics.

I am, but I'm so tired (you should be able to relate, Dedtired LOL) that I may go to bed before it's over.

I loved the two Ashleys. Felt bad for Ashley Cain. Polina was quite impressive at 15!

The girl who is performing at the moment is really nailing it. Quite amazing. Tracy Gold? I've got to get the names straight. Funny how you can tell when they get into the zone, everything goes right and for the ones who get rattled, they never seem to get it back.

Her name is Gracie, not Tracy. Nice! They are all so young.

Now, Dedtired is off to bed.

The funny thing is - when I look at the house foundation - how much foundations is exposed between ground and bottom of brick siding - it all looks even to me. There is no way there is a 6" or more difference between the 2 ends of the house. So it still really surprises me that our yard is so unlevel. When it rains, we never notice precipitation draining towards our driveway. Not sure if we are going to try again this year. The whole thing is covered with snow right now. We never took it apart - I just drained it before we got that storm. So to start over we would need to first disassemble what we have. We originally installed it shortly after Thanksgiving. On a relatively nice day. But we didn't lay out the tarp then - I was concerned about potential branches falling. Or neighborhood dogs running through it. And if you get a hole in your tarp, the tarp is useless. And we didn't level it then. Since we weren't sure where the frame would need to be leveled. And we have no means of checking the leveling over the 34 foot span. (And in hindsight, I would have leveled the wrong places!) The manufacturers instructions say to wait until you are filling the rink to lay the tarp, and they say to level it as you fill it. I just never dreamed that our front yard was on such a slope. We own the rink now. In huge letters all over the box there are huge caution signs saying that you cannot return the tarp after you open it. So make sure your yard is level before you open the tarp. And I'm reading it saying Duh, how does someone not know if their yard is level or not. So I guess I'm that huge Duh! My daughter is a skater, so I justified the purchase of this rink by telling myself that I wouldn't have to pay for practice ice time over the winter months. But instead I just bought ice time for January and February. The world is full of good intentions.

Snow can be brushed off, but attempting to remove ice will do more harm than good. Don't crimp or bruise frozen foliage! Hands off! Palms and most everything else springs back over time. The discoloration is cold related and temporary.

Thank you for all the compliments. You are all so nice. I'm glad you liked it. For those who requested the napkin fold, I got the fold from a blog, but I'm sorry, I can't remember which one. I looked for it again, but could not find it. I will try to give you her instructions. She stated that she did not want anyone to use her photos, and I will respect that. So maybe you can figure it out without them. * Start with the napkin fully open. * Fold in half and fold again in half. You now have a square. * Turn the 4-layered open corner toward you. Begin to peel up each of the 4 layers to align with the top point of the napkin. Space each layer about 1 inch apart. * Now carefully turn the napkin over trying not to disturb your layers. * Bring the left and right sides together, neatly aligning the top of each panel to form a triangular space at the top of the napkin. The bottom point should be about 1 inch wide. * Now flip the napkin over from bottom to top. * Once the napkin has been flipped over, take the top flap and gently peel it up until it forms a neat triangle. It will look sloppy if you allow the triangle to droop. Be careful not to pull the top up too far as this could result in having to start over. * Repeat this step with each layer, tucking the tip beneath each previous fold. Make sure the bottom portion is perfectly aligned with the backside. At this point the napkin can be arranged flat on top of a plate, or it can be placed upright by pulling the back panels out slightly or leaning it against something. This fold looks beautiful as is, or a metallic star sticker can be placed at the top of the tree.

I have a few friends that pride themselves on critically analyzing TV shows and only watch the best. If a how passes their test, it's gold. Their past fav's: How I Met Your Mother, The Office, Community, 30 Rock, Dexter to name a few. When they recommended Modern Family, I knew I was in for a treat. It's sharp and fast-paced, rewarding the smart viewer that can keep up. Don't you love it when a show does that? Instead of playing down to the lowest denominator. Modern Family is a great watch.

I'm on the west coast so still watching the men's short program. Jason Brown was amazing. I hope he makes it to the Olympics, but he's only 19 so he has at least one more chance. He doesn't have a quad so that will hold his marks down. (Jeremy?) Abbot is skating right now. Amazing.

I watched. So Proud of Tracy Gold. Also loved the pairs skating too. Felt bad for the team that had the tall guy and the female skater in white. Love Scott Hamilton, he is so fair to all the skaters. Can't wait for the Olympics.

I did stay up to watch Gracie Gold. Well worth it!

The only male I saw last night was Jason Brown, and he was wonderful. I didn't know they had pairs competition last night, too. I loved the pairs years ago when my daughter Jill and I were very much into watching skating. We knew everyone's names then. Last night they were all new to me.

Yes, I was glad that Scott Hamilton is still announcing.

We LOVE to watch Figure Skating -- and I'm so bummed out that we didn't know it was happening or being televised. :( We won't miss today's coverage though, so thanks for posting about it!

Now watching again here on the east coast.The men are on now. It's amazing what they can do. I do wonder why they wear such goofy (to my eye) outfits. The women look so elegant.

As ley Wagner, Gracie Gold and Polina Edmunds are the US Olympic Women's Team.They are so young, especially Polina. I think of what a dorky teenager I was at age 15.

I do like Scott Hamilton's announcing. He skated at my local club, where I skated as a kid. Dick Button was so critical of the skaters,although he obviously cared very much.

Last night they showed all the past Olympic female skaters who were there to watch. It was so good to see them again.

I just turned it on. Saw some men warming up, one in jeans (yay!).

Glad to hear Ashley Wagner made the team. Polina looks so fragile, but she was impressive.

Speaking of Scott Hamilton, I just ordered his book, The Great Eight. He's been through so much, from childhood on. I guess even very early infancy, as he was adopted at six weeks. It's great to hear him sounding the same.

I caught the end of the men's skating this afternoon - Jason Brown absolutely floored me!

I have a question - what were the fans throwing on the ice that resembled red balloons? I was watching on the little TV in the kitchen because I was making dinner and I just couldn't figure out what it was.
