Sea salt is far too salty for my taste. I was given a container of it and mix it with baking soda for cleaning my kitchen sink!

I just noticed the "sea salt" on my "original" Triscuits now, too.

A given quantity of sea salt has about the same amount of sodium in it as the same quantity of table salt. The crystals are bigger, so if you shake it on to something, you might wind up putting more on or at least it will taste more concentrated when you encounter the big piece than a quick shake of smaller pieces. If you put it into a liquid like a soup and it dissolves, no difference.

One thing sea salt does have is various minerals, varying by where it comes from, so like water the minerals can impart different tastes. A teaspoon of table salt actually has more sodium that that of sea of salt because the crystals are smaller and more will fit into the volume. But if you compare by weight (say 5 grams of each), you really have the same thing with one as the other.

I have a jar, gift from friend, of Rock Himalayan Pink Salt with grater, that I enjoy, from William Sonoma. Great treat!

I like sea salt - especially when combined with dark chocolate.

Apparently if you rely on just sea salt for seasoning it can be important to make sure that it is iodized just as is most table salts.

Snidely, my container of sea salt is very fine granulars, and it blends in with the baking soda. It's way salty, as I also find table salt salty. I guess I'm not getting iodine since my salt intake is with kosher salt.

I've been using a pinch of kosher salt for cooking in the last year or two. I usually don't salt anything though. My late MIL told me sea salt was better for you because it has less sodium. I see now thats its not true. I just assumed it was. I never did buy some. It just seemed to me that salt is salt no matter what.

Gee-I haven't had a triscuit in a couple of years. Do they a seem any different with the sea salt? It seems to me like a marketing ploy to make things seem more natural with sea salt.

Wonder why I can't get it to dissolve in my fudge pie, which I not only cook in the oven, but the mixture gets zapped until it's highly liquid before baking? I keep thinking, I'll just use the kosher salt as it's handier than the pour salt. I have even halved it. Still adds too much salt. I've done it twice. I'll never do it again!

Jasdip, it's not that hard to get enough iodine in your diet without using any salt. Salt water seafood (even canned tuna), shrimp, dairy products like low fat milk and plain yogurt, are examples of stuff I eat frequently. Plus, you can make sure that your daily multivitamin has iodine.

I'm a very low sodium consumer, and Kosher is my choice when I do use it. So, I just make sure that I get it from other sources.

I love the Triscuits original. I can't really tell that much of a difference with the sea salt. I do not the boxes have gotten smaller, and the cracker size seems to be shrinking. *sigh*

I sprinkle kosher salt on my oatmeal.

I got a bonus a couple of (actually, about four) years ago.

I usually write a cheque once year for a local, somewhat family-related church, that I don't attend.

When I visited the treasurer, several years ago, they had received a package of store-brand chocolates similar to Turtles for Christmas with salt on the outside. The lady didn't like them with the salt on them and gave them to me.

Later, at a lunch following a funeral in that church, I told her and her husband that I'd enjoyed the chocolates, but wasn't enthusiastic about the salt, either ... but simply rubbed it off with my hand.

I owe those folks one - got a box of biscuits later ... but didn't get it delivered till it was too old.
