Twins born in 2 different years

Last nite a pair of twins were born......one a few minutes before midnite and the other 38 seconds after midnite; so 2 different years.

This is going to be a nightmare filling out forms and heading off to school. The younger one will be a year behind the other going to school, wouldn't she?? I'd say the heck with the actual time, and have them both born in the same year.
That's just me.

No, they won't be in different grades..because they are Dec/Jan birthdays.
In WA our new kindys cut off is 5 by Aug 31.

Possibly future geneologists may have a problem unravelling this data since the hour of birth often is not readily available.

Jean, I'm glad your favorite is Cimarron Rose, she is a special one. Debra, well you could be right about Notta Butte. I looked at all the photos online, and some are quite close to Mandarin Seas. But this has been such a strange year and the blooms are not all looking like their normal selves. What I like about Notta Butte, AKA Mandarin Seas, is that the orangeness is not really an orange throat, and it's not really an orange watermark, an it's not really an orange eye. It looks like someone took a paintbrush dipped in cantaloupe and brushed outward from the throat, feathering as they went along. So pretty. Happy Daylilies to you. Christine

no these are both Blue Bird babies. They are in a cam box. I saw mom lay the eggs. Though I did not get to see this batch hatch,I did see the eggs at 10 pm and the 2 hatched babies at 10 am the next morning. Within minutes of my last post big baby girl nearly followed mom out of the box. They may be leaving tomorrow. The good news is that little boy blue (named by Donna)seemed to be visually following a fly today. I am not sure if he actually saw it or if he was just following the noise, but it was enough for me to think that he may be sighted. He seems perfect in every way except his size and eyes. Both babies were getting in some good wing flapping. I think if little boy blue can see, he is about ready for the world, he may be a bit "slow" but he seems to know he was meant to fly. I dont have to go anywhere till Friday afternoon so I can be on constant watch. I will let you all know.

2 twin mattresses instead of a king????

My parents have two twins on a king platform. They use twin sheets and comforters with them. My dad has always kicked in his sleep, and many years ago they switched from a full size mattress to the two twins, for that reason. DH and I got a new king mattress a few years ago (no box spring, we have a platform bed as well). We figured we had one more king size mattress "in us" before needing to switch to two twins (or twin XL's--thanks for that tip guys!). We prefer flippable mattresses, and realize there will come a time when we can no longer (physically) flip a king mattress. We actually kinda regret this most recent king-sized purchase. If we thought our old matress was heavy, this one has it beat hands down. It is very dense and so freakin' heavy, we can barely flip it now (we're both in our early 50's). That is why we will eventually make the switch.

Those twins will simply have something interesting to talk about! Their year of birth will not dictate when they start school.

There were two sets born this way, just think of the arguments growing up, I'm older than you!

The year of birth can, does and may or may not dictate when they start school. If the cut off is December 31st, as it is where I live then yes it can dictate. Here, it is up to the parents when a child with a late birthday starts school. In some jurisdictions parents don;t have a choice.

In Ontario where these babies where born the cut off is December 31st.

I'm not a lawyer but I would think that the births have to be legally registered in the year in which they took place.

Yes, these babies are from Ontario and the cut off date is Dec.31st. I hope an exception will be made. I can imagine the problems it could cause if they don't. "I'm smarter than you.....I'm in Grade 1 and you are still in Kindergarten etc."

As a mom of twins, I found this fascinating! There were actually 2 sets of twins born in split years...one in Toronto and the other set in DC. Even though my twins are only 18 minutes apart, the older one does pridefully boast about being older.

I have a feeling the family in Canada will opt to "hold back" the older twin and enroll them together in school. Don't know about how DC enrolls their kids so it's possibly not an issue.

I think 38 seconds past midnight is close enough to calling it the same year when it comes to being twins. I would try my hardest to fight the birthdate year if I were the parent. JMHO

the schools aren't that stupid, or rigid...I'm glad though, they're b/g fraternal twins and not identical...when I was volunteering in my twins class we had a set of identical girls and the mom made it worse by dressing them alike every day!
