We too, had Angelaid's French onion soup. I made baked ziti for the freezer, and kept some aside for dinner to go with it.

Now I'm going to have to get her recipe for the onion soup! I am having breakfast......bacon, soft cooked eggs, and toasted English muffin.

I am feeling a little better and not coughing so much and I was hungry for gumbo what with this cold gloomy weather today so I have a pot of chicken, sausage and okra gumbo cooking and it is smelling wonderful. I have a pot of rice cooking to go with it.

Phyllis, here's the recipe.

Angelaid's French Onion Soup

This only makes about 2 big bowls, I double the recipe (for just 2 of us)
Crockpot French Onion Soup

2 cans of beef broth
3 T butter
2 yellow onions
1/2 T granulated sugar
1/4 cup cooking sherry
1/2 t kosher salt (you might need more if your butter isn't salted)
slices of brown rice bread (or french bread)
gruyere cheese (swiss could work too)

Heat your crockpot to high and plop your butter in to start melting
slice the yellow onions into rings
break up the onion slices with your fingers, and rub them around in the melted butter
add the beef broth, sugar, salt, and sherry
cook on high for 6-8 hours or low for 10-12. It takes a while for the onions to get translucent and pliable

Before serving:
--preheat oven to the broiling option
--toast 4 slices of the bread that you are going to use. That Trader Joe's brown rice bread needed to be toasted twice in my toaster to get to the desired crunchiness.
--cut gruyere cheese into slices
--put the cheese onto the toasted bread, and carefully float the bread and cheese on the top of the soup
--remove stoneware from crockpot and place the UNCOVERED stoneware into the oven
--broil for a minute or two--the cheese should be all melty and turn a golden color

ladle into 4 bowls.

Pot roast, mashed garlic taters and bacon brown sugar green beans will be for dinner.

I had a kraut dog and a bowl of homemade vegetable soup.

I'm snuggled in for the next two or 3 days and I have plenty of food.

Two KT'ers are going to weather the cold and come to my place, Tues for white chili, etc.

I am hoping you are feeling better Raven. Still snow and the wind is picking up and the temps are falling. We got ten inches on top of what we had today and more snow is coming. We had our main meal at noon and I just had a cup of soup for supper.

Since it's so cold, I'm having my comfort food - chicken wild rice soup. I have plenty until this cold snap ends.

I braised a pot roast and veggies in a red wine sauce. Made some rice to go with it.

Oven fried chicken hind quarters and mashed cauliflower.

Oh my...

Why have I never made mashed cauliflower before?

Ling called and asked if I want to go to Old Chicago Pizza with her... and thus, pizza was dinner tonight.

My wonderful DH had spaghetti and cheese garlic bread ready for me when I walked in the door from a 2 day driving DS back to school...

Chinese Chicken Salad leftovers from last night. I'll probably be eating it for lunch tomorrow, too.

I made sweet potatoe and black bean chili. It was yummy.

Jean, how do you make your mashed cauliflower?

First mashed cauliflower I had was in Iowa at a KT get-together and Nita made it.
