To me it's just easier to keep up with it all year long than to spend a week doing it every spring...

I kind of lean towards Spring cleaning in winter, but I certainly can't say I've taken the steps that Prairie Rose has yet! I have formal draperies in only two rooms but feel like I'm noticing some dust at the top pleats....noticing, I haven't done anything about it.

I did wash windows inside and out master bedroom and office today - they are the same 4 piece garden window. I'd bought a new all seasons comforter during holiday sales and washed a new duvet for it today, washed the old and put it and the other comforter away after hanging it outside for a couple of hours. Put the new on our bed.

It's a lovely 60F after morning chill and fog. I think we're setting some kind of record here for this day of the year with this spring-like temperature. DH edged and mowed. The grass hasn't grown but an eyelash worth but it looks much neater outside anyway...

prairie rose - You have probably angered the winter gods. Kinda like if we wash our cars (I live on the west coast) we anger the rain gods and it pours on our nice clean cars. My sister lives in Calgary and if it snows tomorrow I'll let her know why. ;)

My car is filthy with road salt and I'm dying to take it to the car wash.

Prairie Rose....just reading all you got done, just plain tuckered me out, so I will just sit here in my trusty recliner and put my feet up! Too cold here to wash any windows for sure.

lol..dh and I have done just that. we were up at 6 to take dd to the airport...we had our fave breakfast at local place and home...watched the news shows and few sports..then got hooked on hallmark movies...tomorrow back to the real world...

I am still vegging in my recliner (since Thursday after work). I hate being sick.

I know probably kidding when you said come in and clean and do laundry after three days, but do you have someone you can call to give you a hand if you do need that? Like bring soup, juice, a nice friendly pat on the head?

blfenton, I already apologized to my neighbours in advance of the snow that will come overnight because I washed the windows. I think I'm pretty safe, though. Out here it snows the day after you take your snow tires off. Snow tires are still on. LOL

But honestly, after a wet rain/snow then blowing dust this fall, I couldn't stand my windows any longer. They had to get done.

Jasdip, if this weather holds like it is until Friday when I go to town, the road salt on the car disappears, too. LOL

I read once that you should actually do Fall cleaning, not Spring cleaning. The reason being.....in spring you spend all the time cleaning then leave windows open for the fresh air and all the dirt and dust just blows back in the house, whereas with Fall cleaning windows stay shut due to the cool weather. I'm happy I don't have to worry about it for ten more months!

Yes, I am improving. So much so, that I plan to go to work tomorrow. Today I shall do dishes, and a load of laundry. I need clean sheets on my bed. ;)

I will go to the Y after a while, and spend some quality time in the sauna.

I really didn't want anyone here, cause I didn't want to share my germs. My doc declared it isn't/wasn't the flu, but I sure was sick. It is time to get out of my recliner and to reclaim my life.

This isn't exactly "spring" cleaning. We're scheduled for a huge snowstorm the next 2 days. I will sit in my nice warm house and sort all the clutter that's accumulated in my bedroom. It needs doing.

If I start now and get one room clean at a time, I might be done by summer?

Years ago spring cleaning was necessary because of the way we heated our homes. Getting a load of coal into the basement for the furnace meant a coating of coal dust everywhere throughout the house. I remember well the tell tale coating of that black dust under the nose of my sleeping 2 month old baby back in 1960. I can't imagine how much of that stuff is in the lungs today of the people who grew up with the coal dust that was a part of every home. You cleaned all you could get at within reason at the time. Then when the need for daily use of the coal furnace was over in the spring, the very deep cleaning began.

My "rearrange" mood has struck and I'll be moving things around in the kitchen today. When I remodeled I thought I'd have a place for everything. Didn't work out that way. I've been moving things around for years! And looking for most of it until the next time I rearrange. My sewing room is on the list, too, but probably not today. If my mood holds that will be tomorrow's project. The unfinished living room is bothering me. MUST do something about it. I think throw in the towel and call it done for now. No one sits in there anyway.

Spring is a long way off for us, but I have been trying to do some deep cleaning here and there. I've also started some dreaded repainting jobs. :p It's been very cold here but we've actually had a few days with some sunshine, so I'm inspired. :)

I like your rational as well, joaniepoanie. However, being on the prairies means dust all year round. Once I'm done canning, and hopefully before we gather and wean, I give the house another good top to bottom in the fall.

But in the spring, to open everything up, get some fresh air going through, and especially cleaning/airing/steaming all the fabrics, getting rid of the cooking odors that seem to creep into every fiber, the smell of fresh wax, of soap and water, having the windows sparkle,......... Yup I will always love spring cleaning.
