Pop-Ups

I have never had this problem with my Mac before and it only happens on the Garden Web. Whenever I try to read posts Pop-ups keep on a popping and they're driving me crazy. Don't advertisers know that people will go out of their way NOT to buy their products when they do this?!! I not only refuse to buy these products, I encourage friends not to buy them also.

I just wrote to "contact us" this morning about this concerning GW on an ipad--there are MANY others frustrated as well!

Does Weblock work well or are there any caveats to using it? (Raven?)

Ad choices is just miserable. I tried moving pop up blocker to the highest setting and unsubscribing to Ad choices, but nothing has helped.

Either your pump is not pushing any water, (probably because it lost its prime) or you have a broken line somewhere. If its a broken line, let it run awhile. You will get a very wet spot. That's where the break is.

I can't help but see this not as a GW problem, but a problem with whoever designs your hardware's software. I use Firefox with the free Adblock Plus and Adblock Plus Pop-Up add-ons. I have no pop-ups whatsoever on GW: not even if I hover the mouse over the green words. (And no pop-ups anywhere else, either.) Of course, I'm not using an iPad or a smart phone, but a desktop and a laptop. Windows 7 on both (even the brand-new laptop). Not up-to-the-minute; not trendy; doesn't fit in my pocket; not Apple. But no pop-ups!

Yeah, it does, but you might get lucky. I don't have upward-spraying nozzles, but I do find the Hunter 15' adjustable spray nozzle does a pretty good job of clearing taller grasses as the spray angle is pretty sharply upwards. And you can change the angular opening to anything you want. You might be able to change out the problem risers with taller ones as well--most companies make 4", 6", and 12" risers.

I recently went to a full on bra store and bought one Wacoal which is really good but I can't say I love it. I had finally found my perfect bra about 15 years ago and bought a slew of them. I must have had 15 to 20. I still have about 3 remaining (one, the black one, is still in great shape...hardly worn). Of course you know that the bra was discontinued about 5 years ago and nothing similar. To my amazement it was a Playtex. Maybe I'll look at those again. I too get pop up ads all the time and I've definitely gotten the ones everyone mentioned...you know where you think oh at last a perfect bra. Then I read reviews and I'm not anxious to try. I guess I have to look again at those.

Google adblock plus for Apple products. There are versions for some of them
I don't have any of those items but have read they do work.

It's horrible, and GW is the only site that has this problem on my computer. I have an iMac, and I don't want to put any extra software on a great working computer just for one website.

The pop-ups have been crazy lately. I just now added Google Adblock Plus for Chrome and then opened several of the posts. No pop-ups !! Hallelujah!

I use AdBlock for iOS on my iPad and have been doing so for about 4 months now. For any site other than Garden Web, I use Safari. But to visit GardenWeb, I leave Safai and click on the icon for AdBlock which I keep in the bottom row and use it as my browser. I get no more pop,ups. If I forget and go to KT or other GW site while in Safari, I DO get them. You must use it as a browser, not just download it, I tried the free version first, and then paid a small price (maybe as much as five bucks) at the App Store for the Pro version. The ones here were particularly annoying because it made the site totally impossible to read. As a rule I don't mind ads because I realize they "pay the freight" but the GW ones made the site unusable.

sjerin, where do I find "Contact Us"? I also would like to contact the powers that be to complain about the popups.

I got an email back and will cut and paste the suggestion here: (I did it and it's working so far.)

I apologize for any inconvenience these ads as have caused you. We appreciate getting feedback from our members, and I have reported the pop-up issue to our community manager.

In the meantime, you should be able to opt-out of the in-line (green underlined) texts by following these instructions:

1. When you're on a GardenWeb page, hover your cursor on the double-underlined word, but don't click it. You will see an advertisement open in a pop-up box.

2. In the upper-left corner of the box, click the 'V' logo. A new browser window will open the Vibrant in-text advertising page.

3. Scroll partially down this page, and click the 'Disable' tab. Click 'Click here to disable.' The page should update to now say 'Click here to enable.'

4. Close the Vibrant in-text advertising browser window, then once you refresh your main browser window the Vibrant in-text advertising should disappear.

Unfortunately it does not last long that has been my past experience in doing the opt out. If you refresh the browser or clear the cache etc in many cases it resets it.

Shegal, I'm sorry for the delay in an answer for you; I see you posted the question separately and got the answer. Yes, the more of us that write = a quicker fix to the problem, most likely.
