Yes, husband had chili soup, crackers, cheese, peach pie and I had a ham sandwich. I had the chili at noon. Had a hot cup of cocoa too. The high today was -11. It is to be worse tomorrow or over night.

I did a little bit of cleaning today, and I stress the word "little". It's already below zero here. I'm praying for the wind to die down.

My evening meal was kidney beans, brown/wild rice combo, a little bit of hamburger for protein. Tasted good and warming.

I'm going to have a bowl of clam chowder for dinner with some nice crusty bread that DD made. I did a little straightening up today and then sat down and crocheted while waiting for the repairman to come. Washing machine is working but only on certain cycles and thought I'd get it looked at before it completely went. Repairman suggested a new machine after taking it apart. He thought it needed a new control panel but when he dismantled it, it was so rusted he didn't recommend fixing it ($300.00+). Tomorrow we go buy a new one. This one, top of the line Whirlpool, is only 6 years old. Oh well, the good news is, my washing is all caught up. Usually I have a huge mound of laundry waiting to be done when the machine dies! I thought my upper oven was on the fritz, too but he couldn't find anything wrong with that. And that was my day. Tonight, Mexican train.

We are having what we call goulash......browned ground meat, onions and seasonings, elbow macaroni and spaghetti sauce. Nice warm meal on a very cold night.

My gumbo was so good last night we are having leftovers tonight, so chicken, sausage and okra gumbo.

It got into the 20's here in North Houston which is cold for here.

Patti, got you beat it was 5 this morning & they say tomorrow morning it will be below 0. Only got to 8 deg. today & lots of winds. From yesterday morning to this morning it had gone down 58 degs. now that is a big drop. I love the cold but I don't like the winds.

Dinner for hubby was leftover chili, I had a sandwich. Both had a piece of angel food cake.

Sue, I just saw a weatherman reporting from Indianapolis. Guess the governor has banned driving unless you're looking for shelter. Perfect weather for hot cocoa. I like mine with lots of gooey marshmallows!!!

Glenda, living in AL of course you'll be rooting for Auburn. My niece (who lives in Boston) graduated from Auburn, so if they weren't playing FSU, I'd be cheering for them, too. My niece was able to get tickets for the game, along with some of her sorority sisters. A few years ago, they all went to Arizona. My problem is whether to call them the Tigers or War Damn Eagles (as my niece likes to say). Your eggs benedict sound wonderful. Looks like you're having company for lunch tomorrow. Have a great time with Linda and Laura! That soup will hit the spot.

Shirley, I went to mail a bill and take the trash and that wind was bitter cold. You had a nice hearty dinner--needed to help stay warm.

Gosh it's good to see you posting the past couple of days!!

I made a new chicken breast recipe yesterday, and we had it today for dinner. Potatoes and green beans to go with it. Hubby declared it a winner. (I posted the recipe on the share recipes thread)

Linda, I remember my first MIL making goulash. If I remember right she just used tomato sauce (but I don't think they had jarred spaghetti sauce back in the '60's. She put chunks of cheese in it, too. It was yummy!

Raven, it is good gumbo weather. Are you feeling any better? Sure hope so. Stay warm!

Oh, heavens! 58 degrees drop in temperature is huge. Hope you and DH are staying inside and keeping warm. I'm still not eating well. My taste buds tell me that dark chocolate tastes burntl. Hmmph! After I bought a bag of Mounds bars. Light chocolate just tastes ultra-sweet. Ick! I'm really craving something sweet!! Anything!!

Jasdip, thank you for noticing my absence--haha! I've been trying to clean drawers and closets. Sometimes it doesn't look like I've even made a dent. I know I have because I took 7 bags of trash to the compactor this morning. I'm afraid Harry was a hoarder!! So much stuff! I saw your recipe--glad to hear it got the seal of approval!

I made a couple of omelets ....to order! Robert wanted ham and cheese in his and I used cheese and salsa.

Sautéed onions, peppers and greens (kale and collard), with pasta and spaghetti sauce. Tasted really good!

My mom used to make goulash very similar to yours, Linda. Everyone's dinner sounds so nice and I think all of us are trying to have something warm. It's supposed to get down to 19 tonight, which is cold for coastal NC. The cold snap is only supposed to last for a couple of days. By Saturday, it's supposed to be unseasonably warm at 80.

Tonight we're having leftover lima beans, brown rice, ham, and a salad. We haven't been eating our veggies like we should lately and I found myself really wanting a salad.

Hounds, I was just reading a recipe on Pinterest this evening that was a pasta and kale dish--had to copy/paste. It just had a lot of garlic and olive oil. Right up my alley.

Kittiemom, ham is another crave I'm having. When I went to the grocery I bought a chunk of ham and some ground pork. I'll ground the ham and mix them into a ham loaf. I hope I will be able to eat it :-)

Patti, a ham loaf or ham salad sounds good too. We didn't eat our ham. I made the mistake of sending DH to the grocery store because I forgot something. Thankfully, he did get what I needed, but he got a lot more too. He brought home buffalo wings, so we had those instead.
