Two cruises, and no backing out!

Feb. going with a group from Ft Myers to Southern Caribbean for 8 days.

AND, today, confirmed reservations to go with friend and 4 others on a transatlantic cruise from Ft Lauderdale to Barcelona, Spain and fly back from there, after spending three days in Barcelona. 14 cruising days then 3 on land before flying home.

Might as well do it before this old body starts going down hill.

Gal asked me Monday, her daughter, a travel agent called this morning, and I said YES! Money down, final payment next week. Leaving first of April.

Haven't been anywhere since June 2012 with grandson.

I'm excited!

I am jealous Glenda~~I just do not know if I could go on a cruise and flying makes me feel ill. It is road trips for me;)

lollol I had a feeling Gizmo was going to make an appearance in this thread. Okay, so Mike (of London) posted a link to The Secret Life of Plants in a different thread, but my reactions had more to do with this topic, so I'm just going to link that thread below. First I'm glad I watched it because it helped me articulate something I failed to when I voiced that horrible question about choosing between pets and plants. (Which I always knew was as ridiculous as choosing between mums and dads) That is, although it certainly seems a lot easier (or faster, anyway) to bond with our animal friends, who rub and frolic and keep us warm, I feel a real communication/chemistry with my plant roommates. A relationship that (dare I say it) seems more MATURE than the one I have with that Zeno. Like my plants handle themselves like adults and get my music, whereas Zeno is a total kid. The other day I saw an Ikea plant (of the large palm variety) in the gross little closet that holds the apartment trash chute. It looked like it had lost most of its limbs and only had one green chute powering along. And it just made me sick, thinking of it dying there, slowly, shut off from light and water because some jerk had adopted it and then proceeded to suck as a friend. I guess it's thinking of THAT plant that made me struggle with the question, not a lack of total codependent bonding with Zeno. I hope you guys have all stopped pitying my stealthy black fuzzball now. :3 Second I think I might need to reassess the plant versus pet situation. I mean, if cabbages can identify perps in a lineup, presumably, my plants can recognize Zeno, and who am I to assume that they HATE him? It could be that all this time I was not just protecting them from his occassional nibbles and tippings, but I was also depriving them of his inquisitive sniffs and rubs. I mean, MOST of the time, he isn't intent on mangling them. Maybe they are sensing his positive energy as he noses around thinking: What's that interesting smell? That's YOU! And then the little streptocarpus stands up a little more proudly in its dish. I'm going to have to mull this over... That said, you guys are AWESOME! Lemon and netting. Check. We met him at a signing event this past December, and he is just as nice as can be. Enthusiastic about his designs, and genuinely thrilled for the purchaser of each and every piece. He even signed the free gift-with-purchase (which the store personnel were trying to discourage), and signed items purchased prior to the "event" (again, against the "rules," but he didn't pay any attention to that!).

No Glenda - born and raised here in Beantown - I have a niece who lives in Stellenbosch - the wine country. She moved there for good this past fall - her husband has a job in the wine industry there, they live on a farm on a mountain with incredible views. Some family members and I went over there 4 years ago for their wedding, and on their safari honeymoon - it was a fabulous trip and I cannot wait to go back. It's a long flight and I would want to spend at least 2 weeks there - 3 would be better!

Once I have everything in order, you’ll have to come see them, Ingrid. You may have to come before everything is in order, otherwise you’ll never come. We’ll wait until things don’t look like this, though..... That’s all the isolated roses we brought home from the desert. Just spraying and drenching them in their containers has been a chore. I want to be careful about pests. Now the planting must begin and the weather forecast is for 90F!?! Will we ever get our rain? I feel like crawling back into my bed today, but I can’t let these roses just sit like this. At least Rev H is planted. That’s a start! I always dismissed ‘Mutabilis’ as a rose that didn’t appeal to me. I didn’t know what it was when it first caught my eye. The more I looked at it, the more intrigued I became. It was gorgeous! If I had the space, I’d grow it for sure. Sometimes you just have to see a rose growing to really appreciate it. I never expected to like it, and from its color description, I wouldn’t have expected you(Ingrid) to like it either. After seeing it, I love it. Clearly you must love it as well, if you grew five of them at one time! I never would have appreciated this rose had I not seen it yesterday. Lisa

I jumped on this transatlantic one as I have wanted to go on one.

Luckily, it was a deal I just could not turn down. plus going with a friend and couple others.

I just knew from your subject that you meant cruises. Im so jealous! I love love love cruising but don't have one planned until 11/14. Have you been on the Epic which has single rooms on two decks along with a lounge exclusive to those two decks? No single supplement. To me there is nothing better than a cruise. No schedule, room service at your fingertips, entertainment (or not), good food and usually friendly fun people. Enjoy. Satine

This one is on Holland America's new Amsterdam ship.

I have a deluxe veranda and did not have to pay the extra price for going single.

For this trip, it's as cheap as the 8 day Caribbean as I had to pay the price for going single.Extra cost the 3 days in Barcelona before returning back to the states.

Unimaginable price for the B'ham to Ft Lauderdale price and combined with the Barcelona back to B'ham flights.

Probably my last time to cross the Atlantic, but hopefully more cruises.

I am jealous, but extremely happy for you!!! You go enjoy yourself and make memories!!! Do you have a good camera??? If not, get you one, especially for the Spain trip!!!

The group I'm traveling with are snowbirds Boston/Ft Myers and will bus to Ft Lauderdale from Ft Myers to board Royal Caribbean. I fly from B'ham to FL to meet them.

Two weeks from today!

Good for you, you're going to make wonderful memories. My sis in law left this morning for Miami to board a cruise to the Panama Canal and then backed up with another cruise. She'll be gone six weeks, she's 76 and went alone. She went on seven river cruises last year. I love seeing people, whatever their age, following their bliss.

I go single, but with a group.

This one to the Caribbean, there are 42.

Transatlantic there are only 5 PLUS I didn't have to pay the single cost, yea!

Will have balcony on both cruises! Second one I have a large veranda with padded chairs! Not used to that luxury.

Wow! I'd never heard of the transatlantic cruise until I was talking to an old friend who lives in San Diego and also lives to travel. She's taken it twice. It sounded strange to me that it only goes one-way until she explained it. She absolutely loves it and wants to go again whenever she can. From her description, I think you're in for a wonderful time.

What is unbelievable about THIS trip is that the airfare, from B['ham to Ft Lauderdale, and from Barcelona all the way to B'ham is only $561.. YES, $561.

Travel agent said we got under the "radar" as rates went up since we booked.

Flying Delta all the way. Delta Air France back.

Have a grand time Glenda! I have a friend who played piano at the place I used to frequent in Indian Rocks Beach,FL. He played there for years before he retired from the Post Office. Then, 3 yrs ago-became an entertainer on the Royal Caribbean in the Lounge. He & his wife love the 'cruise life' and they just arrived in Tampa a couple days ago from Austrailia. They sail back out again in mid-Feb. IF you happen to be on his ship-his name is Kelly Goodrich and he does awesome medleys of Elton John, Elvis, etc...props & all. Great music, vocals and FUN! Make sure you post pics for us to see of your trip.

Good for you for jumping on this! I was eyeing some of these with a return to England in mind. I dread the whole 'airport' experience these days. I'd love many days at sea, but DH...not so much. I'd much prefer a ship both ways, but, while the repositioning crossing is a bargain, the other way isn't.

My mother and I went abroad when I was 14, French Line both ways. Spoiled me for life!
