It is a beautiful house but it doesn't seem cozy. Too cold and sterile. Not something I would want to live in unless it had softer and warmer accessories.

Great idea, Alisande. I did notice those taxes, yeesh! I have been looking at a lot of houses online, mostly newish, and what struck me the most about this house in comparison was how well built it appears to be. Everything looks so solid! I'm sure I could cozy it up.

It's a beautiful house - the furniture wasn't to my taste but if you bought it, it'd have your furniture not theirs, so the feel would probably be less sterile.

Nope, not my style at all. It looks cold, both in mood and literally - I'll bet its really hard to heat!

OMG, I just love that house. Except for that tiny kitchen. As much as I like to cook, I'd need more room than that. BTW, I have the same cedar chest as in picture #24 :) I'd love a house with French doors--sigh!

Wow, low cost per square foot. But yes, taxes are almost 2% -- unless you get a break -- and you should -- because the house is 'historic'. I suppose the neighbors wouldn't want a B&B?

Its a beautiful house and fun to roam through. At $800 grand, I do expect to see nice features. Did you notice that for all its finery, it had old fashioned steam radiators for heat. These were tastefully integrated with the decor. However, homemakers have found these old radiators do get in the way. I did not see any air ducts, therefore it could not have central air conditioning. A significant space in the basement would be occupied by the boiler and piping, and there would be a bunch of pipes. Each set of radiators would require its own pipe, so conceiveably, there would be in the basement, a steam pipe for each heated room.

Beautiful house! Looks very much like one of the many turn of the century mansions on Summit Ave. in my town of St. Paul. That's a high price for Eau Claire, but it evidently has a ton of land and is obviously beautifully restored and maintained.

For all we know, the house might be staged, which is why the furniture looks minimal.

Like Jemdandy mentioned, I noticed the radiators for heat. I wonder what it would be like, heat-wise. Would it be warm?
I'd enlarge the kitchen if I could.

Marita, prices are rising for EC. There are several million dollar houses on the market. I'm sure this would be a several million dollar home on Summit. I love roaming around Summit and Grand Avenues,BTW. Those homes are amazing.

Jemdandy, it did say there was Central air but I did notice the radiators. Wonder if the fireplaces are used for warmth. Looks like they are converted to gas?

I'm unsure about the comments about radiators. We all have them around here: I'm in a 1913 home. I've always lived in homes with radiators; it is a very consistent and excellent heat source. People who want central air (not really common except in newer construction) often opt for the mini split system. That's what they may have done in this house.

I grew up in a house built about 1900 in central Illinois. The radiators kept it toasty warm, but how I wished we had air conditioning, though back then in the '40s and '50s, no one did.
