Can you reheat a baked potato?

I fixed two sweet potatoes in the microwave Tuesday for dinner. They were so big we shared one of them. I am preparing pork chops in the oven tonight. Can I use the left over sweet potato? In the oven, how long? or the microwave for a couple minutes. It was put in the refrigerator right after the meal. Thanks!

Instead of just warming them up, try cutting them up and pan fry using butter and a bit of salt or even sugar to give them a different taste. I do this with white/red patatoes all the time after I bake them. Or slice/cut them up and just fry them, like sweet potatoe fries.

I agree, Marie. And I love to eat the baked peels too, so I always wash the potatoes well before baking them.

We know this recipe around here! These are delicious but I would not reheat in the microwave. Depending on how long the drive is to your location, I would make them ahead and freeze unbaked. Then bake just before you leave to drive to your destination. Wrap them in foil with some holes poked in the top to let steam out, put down in a cooler with lid on. If it were me, I'd probably make another appetizer and save this recipe for another time when entertaining at home. Teresa

Dreamhouse, I think you need to be a tad more specific! LOL Not sure what TBP recipe you are looking for. But this one is awesome..... Andouille and White Cheddar Over-Stuffed Baked Potatoes Recipe courtesy Emeril Lagasse, 2000 8 large baking potatoes, like Russets Drizzle olive oil Salt Freshly ground black pepper 3 tablespoons olive oil 2 cups thinly sliced onions 1/2 pound andouille sausage, ground 8 tablespoons butter 1 to 1 1/2 cups cream fraiche 1/2 pound white cheddar, grated 1/4 cup chopped chives 1/4 cup chopped parsley Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Season the potatoes with olive oil, salt and pepper. Place on a baking sheet and bake until tender, about 1 hour. Remove from the oven and cool. In a saute pan, over medium heat, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil. When the oil is hot, add the onions. Season with salt and pepper. Cook until caramelized, about 8 minutes. Remove from the heat and cool. Meanwhile, in a saute pan, over medium heat, add the 1 tablespoon of oil. When the oil is hot, brown the sausage, about 6 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, remove the sausage and drain on paper towels. Set aside. Using a sharp knife, remove the top 1/4 of each potato. Using a spoon, remove the flesh from each potato, leaving about 1/4-inch border on each potato. Set the hollowed potato shells, aside. In a mixing bowl, combine the potato flesh, butter, and cream fraiche. Season with salt and pepper. Using a hand masher, mash until smooth. Add half of the cheese, onions, sausage, chives, and parsley. Season with salt and pepper. Mix well. Fill each hollow potato with the potato/sausage mixture. Top each potato with the remaining cheese. Place on a baking sheet and bake until the potatoes are warm and the cheese melts. Remove from the oven and serve. Linda

I made compumom's recipe and it turned out great! Break was just me, DH & my younger son, Ben, and a friend of ours. I cut squares out of the souffle, MWd them for about 3 1/2 minutes, and they were fine! Services were good, sermons were good, and we had a discussion on cremation during the break (we always have a discussion on something at around 4 pm before we begin the service again at 5). Shofar was supposed to blow at 8:02, they blew at 8:10 so not too bad. One year we were between rabbis and we had a sub rabbi for high holidays. The head of the RPC (religious practices committee) decided (about 30 min before services should have ended) that he had forgotten to tell this rabbi that we do one additional service - or some such directive - and we went over by about 40 minutes. It was awful! I agree with gellchom regarding skipping meals as opposed to skipping water. I drink water all day so it's tough not to. I don't do caffeine so that's not a problem for me. I also agree with mimsic that I definitely feel a sense of renewal from the day. Someone or other is always asking me about fasting -- "I don't know how you do it!" "Isn't it hard??" and questions like that. I always reply, you know, it's not only not bad, but I actually welcome giving my stomach a rest for one day. And like mimsic said, you're in the synagogue, everyone else is fasting, you're praying and the day just goes by. One funny thing, am I the only one? Or do you find yourself singing some of the melodies in your head for a few days? Just hearing some of those so many times during the day, I can't help replaying some of them in my mind!

Freezing twice baked potatoes vs. mashed

I add sour cream (or drained kefir curd) and cream cheese to make freezer mashed potatoes. I think this mixture will last in the freezer longer and not be as "wet" after it is thawed. I normally use Yukon Gold potatoes, since that's what I grow. I'll use the larger potatoes for Twice Baked, and most of the rest of the crop gets used for Freezer Mashed Potatoes and boiled herbed potatoes, which I freeze and then pan fry. It's difficult to keep Yukon Gold potatoes for very long in storage after they are harvested, so I freeze the majority of my small crop. Our son gave us 40-pounds of blue potatoes from his garden and I've been converting them for the freezer, too. I've also been using them to make microwave potato chips ;-). Here's a bit of information about the 6 types of potatoes and how to use them, and why one variety will work better for some applications that other varieties. I always bake two sweet potatoes at the same time. Eat one, put the other one, still with the peel on, in the fridge. When I want that one I slice it down the middle, longways, and nuke it for a minute or so depending on size. Add a dollop of butter and it is ready to eat. If you choose to, add a dab of brown sugar and cinnamon.

To answer your question, yes, you can reheat a baked potato. Easy. I do it in the microwave (I think it'd get too dried out in the oven). Depending upon size, zap it for 1 minute and then feel it to see if it needs more. If so, rotate it, and give it another 30 seconds. And so on.

I like Marie's way to fix the leftover ones, seldom have leftovers though on those, so I usually just fry mine when I want one.

I wrap in a damp paper towel & then zap in the microwave for 1 minute - just like new!

I always re-heat/cook left over potato...they are great re-cooked in a variety of ways. I would choose seasonings over sugars though, just a healthier choice in my opinion.

I was just saying I should call a restaurant owner where we went for a firemans Christmas party a few years ago to see if she can answer this question. We had steak and baked potatoes. The potatoes were all black. I think she had reheated them twice in the oven with the foil stil on them. You couldnt even eat them
