What to do to soften dates

I have some dates that have been in the fridge and should be used up.They seem dry and i would like to use them in a Date Bread and Cookies. What could i do to soften them up and not change the taste. They are seedless. Thanks

Hmmm...I might try putting them in the microwave on the low Defrost setting....in a zip lock bag with a little water.

"Dates can be softened by steaming them for about 10 minutes over boiling water
or placing them on a baking sheet covered with a wet towel then keeping them
warm in the oven for 15 minutes. The sugar will melt back into the dates." from cooks.com

If i was softening the batch to use right away, I'd just steep them in a bit of hot juice/white wine.

I thought microwave too. Maybe add some sugar to the water?

well, here's where my mind is;
I thought you were wanting to work on an uncooperative boyfriend!

treat them as you would raisins...no need to add sugar. the fruit usually does that by itself...(forms sugar crystals)

warm the liquid from your recipe and use that to soak till cooled...

now you've made me hungry for dates!

This reminds me. Is Date Nut Bread in the round cans still available? Haven't thought about it for a long time, but sure would like to have some.

Okay Sue...I have some dates in the refrigerator. I love to eat them stuffed with white cheddar cheese.

And, there's nothing as good as a date milkshake.

Thanks for the answers. I went with the steaming and that worked great. Now to get my energy back up again and get some baking done.

Costco dates, split, seed, fill with creme cheese and pecan halves. Took then to a party as an appetizer and they were gone before they hit the table!!

I'm going to check out the Vermont Country Store. Thanks.

Yes, any thing with those delicious dates, with cream cheese on the DN bread, the cream cheese/pecans. the date stuffed cookies my friend made.

Gotta get me some.

Praise her, flatter her ...
