Calling card to Germany?

I see that Moni is without her computer right now, but perhaps there's someone else who can chime in. Dd is in Berlin for study abroad and we're trying to find a decently priced calling card. She cannot use skype where she is living and does not have a data plan on her phone, so we're relying on email and the phone. We call on a landline but of course she has only a cell phone which raises the price quite a bit. Any suggestions?

I don't know about now, but AT & T and/or Verizon have overseas plans.

I had the same problem . My plants where doing great up until the last week of April. Then i started losing plants right and left. I lost 3 full trays of starter plants almost over night. I live in Tucson Az where the day time winter temp is in the 80's but at night that temp can quickly drop. Late in January we had 2 weeks where the temp dropped . Then my mother opened a window in the plant room. I did not catch it for 3 days. Since almost ever thing I have is on wicks and reservoirs it was perfect for the growth of the pathogens which cause root rot. I lost a total of about 100 plants , but I have finally got it under control . I have made note on my computer calendar, it will start sending me a email in January to remind about it, until I shout it off.

Hi Solana - In the planning stages of your trip, try to use email as much as possible. Most reputable lodgings have email, and monitor it closely. I know that it may be scary to give your CC over the internet, but again, the good, reliable hosts will have a bit-encrypted payment site. The reason to use a CC, and not send a check, is that if you do not receive the services you have paid for, the CC co. will/may/should reimburse you. Use Tripadvisor.com to check out recent reviews of the the guesthouse/hotel. Actually, most travel agents do this now. In the old days, as a TA, I used to charge a base cost of about $5 for the overseas calls, each. Email makes it much better, and cheaper. Even better, if you need to be somewhere specific, and the hotel you wanted to stay at is sold out, they can usually recommend somewhere that they would send overflow. Remember the time differences, if calling. Talk to the front desk/res person before 12 noon, your time, to get intelligent answers, cause after that you're either talking to the bar keep, or the cleaner. What I use at home since I went from a Bell Land line to strictly Cell - http://www.cicicallingcard.com/ I know that the co. is based in Toronto, but I believe that they do plans out of the US. It has local phone numbers, or Toll-free numbers. While right now I am only calling within Ontario, it took forever to use up $10. In the old days, when I travelled lots, and had Ma Bell, I had a great plan that I could charge my calls from Europe onto my home phone bill, for the same cost as a call from my home, which was pretty cheap. Some folks paying that high interest on those credit card debts may not have seen this, last time around. I'm wondering how much of a reduction they might have been able to achieve with the store-issued card people - that usually charge 25 - 28%. Unless the stuff that you bought is tax-deductible ... that interest must be paid with after-tax income, folks. If you're in 20% tax bracket, it means that when you earn $5.00, you pay tax of $1.00 and have $4.00 left to buy things. So if your interest rate is 28%, divide that by 4 to get 7, then add the 7 to the 28 to make 35. You earn $35.00, pay $7.00 tax and have $28.00 on hand to pay that interest on $100. purchase (suppose you were dealing with a year, but you must pay some monthly ... but usually the required amount is only slightly above the amount of interest added that month). Which means that if you pay only minimum monthly, or slightly more ... ... that bill will run (almost) forever. Oh - you figure to die before "forever"? Right ... most of us do, don't we? I would suggest, she buys an overseas phone card!

Oh, woops, don't know if that works with a cell phone.

Why don't you pay in to the skype program, so you can call a phone?

Hi OklaMoni, I have used overseas phone card on my cell phone when I was tour on UAE. So it my be good option for her.

Moni, I think this is an advertisement that miclelee12 is pitching--she dug up this post from Jan. My dd ended up buying a sim card there, and using that in her phone--worked great.

According to WOT, the website linked, something called ontariophonecards.ca, has "no reputation" and has been posted in numerous spam posts that have been removed.

So why is Miclelee12 from India posting about a Canadian "company" with a previously determined phony website?

miclelee, of course you're selling it. This was started 6 months ago and ended soon after. I would guess you're trolling the internet forums to insert your sales pitch with Google searches, wherever you can. Advertising on this forum is a no-no.
