Have you gotten tickets to a TV show?

My daughter, granddaughter, and I are planning a trip to NYC in the spring. We thought it would be fun to attend a TV show, either taped (like David Letterman, for instance) or live (like Kelly & Michael).

It's been decades since I've done something like this, and the process has probably changed since then anyway. Has anyone here obtained tickets to a TV show in NYC?

We saw a David Letterman show a few years ago (turned out to be the show where he said he was being blackmailed).

Sorry I can't help you with how to get tickets, Joe knew someone who worked with CNET and she got us tickets.

I would love to see Jon Stewart! I think he is fantastic.

I've been to several of the morning talk shows. Some are a lot of fun; others not so much....Wendy Williams was a lot of fun. She had the audience down on the stage for a pre-show dance party. We have tickets to a different show in mid-Feb. Would love to get tickets to Jon Stewart show though.

You have to request tickets on their website as you know, but if you are going in the spring, tics may not be available for that time period yet, but, you can always try. Kelly and Mike sell out very early and well in advance so try to put in your request as soon as their site allows.

Yes. I watch and am fascinated. The Discovery and TLC channels have presented a few programs about OCD over the years, but nothing as in depth as this. There's a definite message for anyone who is afflected with compulsions - help is available. There's an element of voyeurism in watching these shows, but that's true of all reality shows, and this one may actually do some good. On Monday's program I guessed that the guy who over-exercises out of a fear of death would not be much helped. And was genuinely shocked by the woman who scrubbed herself inside with a toothbrush until she bled. But it appeared that she was greatly helped. The human brain is a great mystery!

No school today for MLK day. Tried to run to the store for an onion- that's all. Wanted to put a pot roast in the oven. But my minivan's battery was dead, not a bit of power. Jump started it and went to WalMart for a new one. That done, I *thought* it was 1:30 and was happy with my time. Forgot the clock had stopped with the battery. ;o) It was 3:30, which meant DD was late for gymnastics. Err!! Rushed off to that. I managed to get some laundry done, dishes, graded a bunch of papers (but I'm only about half done 104 studeents), wrote a to do list for tomorrow, changed the sheets on one bed... never did get to that pot roast, we had to have hot dogs for dinner. ;o( Kids are in bed and now I'm gonna finish grading and get some things ready for tomorrow and the rest of the week. Looking at that, I guess I did get a lot done, just not as much as I wanted. Feels like I barely made a dent in what I need to get done.

It's on my Instant Queue, but I haven't watched it yet. I like Kevin Spacey, and I heard the show is very good. I was telling someone about it, and I called the show "King of Spades." Hope he found it. LOL

Years ago, I ordered Letterman tickets from their website, and we went to the taping of a show at 5pm, and got back home (by train) in time to watch it that night.

When I was in HS - I danced on Bandstand once week.

I just checked....and the link below shows how to get Letterman tickets on-line.
The drill is unchanged, and I got my phone call from them on my cell phone while driving to the airport in Minneapolis.
The phone call trivia question is to check if you really watch the show.

They're very well organized.

I think so too, Jasdip, but I'm pretty sure Ellen is in CA.

Thanks for the input, y'all, and the link, Monica. I guess I'll have to brush up on my Letterman trivia if we choose that one; it's been ages since I've seen the show.

I heard "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" can run three hours. I don't think I'm up for that. Incidentally, on my TVs the host's voice is always muffled, while the contestants sound fine.

If you go to the Letterman show...what i saw was:
He warms up the audience himself
They tape in real time.
When there s a break for commercials, etc....Dave and his director chat between themselves on the stage.

I've been to The View 3 times, Rachel Ray twice, Regis and Kelly twice and Letterman once. When DD was attending college in NYC she went to John Stewart, How to be a Millionaire, Conan and Letterman.

If you go to Letterman take a sweater because he keeps the studio notoriously cold. My question was easy 'What college did Dave attend?' answer - Ball State in Indiana.

When they send you tickets some of the shows will state in the letter that it isn't a 100% guarantee that you'll be admitted.
The letter will tell you what time you should arrive and then you still stand in line outside the theater until they'll ready to take you in. We always arrived well before the stated time because if they have last minute VIP guests then the people at the end of the line get bumped.

Some of the shows tape 2 shows on the same day. The View did this regularly, usually on Thursday because Fridays shows were always taped.

Most of the shows allowed us to request up to 4 tickets. I used to get last minute e mail invitations for The View fairly regularly. They had a separate section on their request form for residents of NY, NJ and CT. It seems like they would send these invites to people who lived nearby and who could easily fill in empty seats in the audience on short notice.

It's probably been almost 2 years since I've gone to a show.

the tonight show is moving to nyc,? Rachael ray shoots there, too...what I'd do is send in requests to the good ones, asap...lot different from the days in la when you could walk into some of the shows...

The Tonight Show is moving to NYC, but I didn't even consider it because I'm guessing it will be wildly popular for awhile.

Maire, I thought I remembered that you'd been to a show, but I didn't know it was so many!

So I guess the first thing we need to do is figure out when we're going to be there. And then request from more than one show, assuming that not all requests will be filled?
