Nice and Easy is a semi permanent color so you can apply it to the total of the hair and it lasts 4 to six weeks. L'Oreal Excellence is a permanent color so it has to be applied only to the new growth and, if previous color has faded, the it can be applied to the rest of the hair but only for five minutes at the end of the normal timing process. It's recommended that, after the root application has been on 30 minutes, open the applicator bottle in which you've reserved at least half an once and put in some shampoo and water and shake it and apply to the rest of the hair. Wait five minutes then shampoo the entire head with the solution and a second time with just shampoo and water. That's the professional salon way to do it and it's an excellent product.

I've been using Excellence for ages, and I put it on my whole head every time, but then, I have short hair. I just apply it to my dry, not too clean, hair and let it sit for 35 minutes, then rinse out and apply the conditioner. I don't use any shampoo. I do it about every 6-10 weeks, depending on how lazy I am.

I love Excellence and use it often. My greys seems to grow so fast so I do it every 3 weeks or so. I've tried the others, and it's the best for at home. I just have the time to sit in a salon for an hour or so, like I used to do when I would get foils. I wish I had the courage to go grey, but I don't.

I love Excellence also, but like sleeper, my grey roots grow in so fast that I have to dye my hair every 3 to 4 weeks. I too, am not ready to go grey, as I don't have enough to look elegant, like Meryl Streep did in Devil Wears Prada. My grey isn't spread evenly like salt and pepper, it's in odd chunks, so I probably won't stop colouring my hair until it's all grey. I could try a very light blonde so my regrowth wouldn't be so evident against a lighter colour, but I currently use golden blonde, as it gives my face more warmth.

I haven't dyed my hair in a year and half, but when I do/did, it's either Perfect 10 (like Nice n Easy, also by Clairol) first, and L'Oreal Preference second. Both give natural color, but Perfect has an applicator that makes it go down to the roots (thicker hair).

I always used excellence just like Preference or any other...do the roots and then comb it through to the ends for 15 or 20 minutes...I'm actually so sick of gray at 75 I'm thinking of adding a little color...

I find the Sally's products last longer and are no more expensive. I mix developer with Age beautiful hair color. It's designed for grays. I wSs finding the drugstore colors were not fully covering my grays. I stopped into Sally's and they walked me thru what I needed. The developer is less than $3 and I get 2 used and the color is $5 something. It covers ALL the grays.

I have to thank you for asking! I have had the trouble of trying to find the right color; it's either too blonde, or it's too dark. I found a website where a lady has been trying different combos that solved the same problem, using L'Oreal Excellence colors, reddish blonde and red penny. I wouldn't have found it if you hadn't asked this question.

Just yesterday, I picked up a bottle of coloring in the store, and put it back on the shelf. I am getting pretty gray and gave it a thought, but really hate to have to keep it up forever. I may try one that will wash out in a few weeks so I do not have to keep up coloring the roots if I do not wish to do so.

I use it too. I like that it's a cream and not drippy like regular dye and doesn't smell harsh like some dyes can. I have asthma and I can still breath when using it.

rob, I just looked at the link and I use L'Oreal Excellence, 'Golden Blonde' but my hair colour looks exactly like the photo she posted when she used 'Reddish Blonde.' I guess I have less grey hair than her, as Golden Blonde gives me the same amount of red in my hair as Reddish Blonde alone, does, for her. So I guess once I start getting more grey, I can always switch to Reddish Blonde to get the same colour I have now, since one needs darker reds to penetrate grey hair.

My natural haircolor is what used to be 9GR-Light Golden Reddish blonde and they quit making it. So I'm crossing my fingers this will be close enough. I used to be able to dye it that color and peole wouldn't even notice. So why bother? I spend a lot of time outside in summer. Come winter the light part is at the bottom, but the part which hasn't seen the sun in months has flatter color and a shade darker.

I use the temp color but don't like it as well since they discontinued the color linen....it was just enough blond that blended well....
