What Are You Doing Today?

I have some yeast roll dough in my bread machine to fix for lunch. Cheryl and Kevin came out to check on things in the club house as our pump was running so much and I thought maybe they had the water dripping too much. Well, no, somewhere out there possibly under the bathroom a water pipe has broken and water must be going everywhere. So they turned the water off out there from the house. Probably won't look at that till spring. They put fresh batteries in the smoke detectors and put them up and then they went home before it gets too snowy. I will fix our main meal at noon or so and have a light supper. Lunch will be fried ham slices, baked potato, green beans and the rolls. I will probably have coleslaw too. He does not care for coleslaw. So what are all of you doing besides waiting for bad weather to arrive?

I have to leave for work in about an hour. Hope all it is doing is light snow or rain when I come home at 9.

Nice neighbor is coming to help me seal up a bedroom window.

And help me open a bathroom window that I have never been able to get open.

Gonna hit the gym for a few machines then settle in for a few days of cold cold weather.

Happy Valentines Day to me, I've been on my hands and knees in the island and driveway beds trying to make some sense of winters mess ;0) Really, I feel pretty pleased, it looks better out there and I've been inside with our rain and cold for too many days. I found some baptisia shoots under the leaves, some inula too. I don't know yet if the salvia survived the colder winter, too soon to tell. DH helped me take down a 12' rhody to the ground, one of 5 in a row we'd already shorted by about 8' two years ago and this one didn't ever thrive again like the others. I was pulling leaves and debris out from under the azalea hedge when it started to rain again so I came in - thinking it was about 5 PM from the darker sky and it was 3:30. I'm not sure what we're going to eat tonight, maybe he'll cook a steak. I have a couple of lobster tail in the freezer that I like, but lobster isn't his preference ever... We are aiming for a Costco trip Thursday but DH did run to the store with a short list for me this morning and came home with flowers. Grocery store flowers, but I'm not complaining ;0)

I am happy. Went and talked to the owner of a little mom and pop cafe I go to. He gets a lot of regular trade on weekends. I explained my dilemma, Said I didn't want to ruffle feathers but wanted to keep it simple and not have to plan a menu etc. We compromised on the time so things would be a bit slower. Everyone can order whatever they want from the full menu. I offered to figure in the money each person would owe at the end of the meal but he said they could easily split the check with the system they have in place. Yay! I am limiting the number of attendees to what they can handle. The number is just a few people under the maximum we normally get anyway. I stated it clearly on the announcement so now we will see what happens. Came home, typed up the details and sent it out. Done.

I spent the morning mowing the area below the dam of our pond. Unbeknownst to me a plastic "rock" solar light got washed to the bottom of the dam and I hit it with the mower, utterly destroying it. Then around lunch I went to a "Junior handler" hound show, which had the children handling and showing both hunting beagles, and fox hounds. After that I spent the afternoon trimming overhanging bushes and trees on our long driveway. I heard thunder and decided to stop for the day and gather everything up and put it away. Then the storm arrived. The worst of it only lasted about 45 minutes, but it was raining sideways, dropping 1 inch hail, blowing incredibly hard, and frequent, close lightning flashes. The horses were really not happy. Water was cascading down steps behind the house, flooding the driveway in several places, and blowing under doors and windows on the side facing the wind. When it slackened my wife and I went out to survey what happened, and found a plastic chair that was on the beach by the pond that had blown across the driveway and 30 feet up the hill on the other side. We also found the tiny creek that crosses the driveway a raging torrent. and one smaller culvert blocked causing sticky red mud to back-up, and cover the uphill side. The worst though was an 18" diameter sycamore tree that was down completely blocking our driveway. So the rest of the evening was spent outside in the rain, trying to clear that large tree from our driveway. Fun.

I started out the day (yesterday too) really suffering from aches and pains, and fatigue. My neck injury acting up, which gives me a headache, and the arthritis flaring (shouldn't have eaten those tomatoes!) A stint in traction didn't give me the relief it usually does. So I didn't sleep well and was really feeling the heat -- which usually doesn't bother me much. Worked on the interior of the windows yesterday and today (only cleaned 2 today) now, only have 8 left to clean now. Sorry that I didn't feel up to doing more outdoor work -- it is supposed to change from summer (it was 89F yesterday!) to late fall abruptly tomorrow -- forecasting a 30 degree drop from morning to night. Picked the last 3 apples of my very meager harvest, but hit the jackpot at my DD's apartment complex -- spotted a bush loaded with quince!! The processing is a chore, but I love the final product -- quince paste (or cheese, or membrillo) to eat with manchego all winter long! I've got to remember how I cooked it in the oven a few years ago. Had 2 folks come out to give me an estimate on replacing the chain link fence with something taller and wooden. Fingers crossed it won't be as much as I fear. I suppose I could just pay them to set the posts, and remove the old fence, then gradually install the rails myself.

Skipping church today for the first time in prolly 4 months. I'm in the choir, and since the holidays messed up our practice schedule our director gave us today off. We'll get back on track starting this week with learning new Easter music.

Temperature was 10 when we got up, dropped to 7 now. Our schools have already announced they will be closed tomorrow due to the cold and four inches of fresh snow on the ground. I'm VERY glad we moved to town last year! We used to live 8 miles out, in the woods with a 1/4 mile driveway.

Gonna go to the gym after lunch, then the grocery store. I think I'll put on a pot of chili for supper.

Nasty weather started Thursday, and it's still snowing. Been putting off going out to remove it, again. Still showing the -50 winds tomorrow. Debating on Monday am Dr. appt?? Got fixin's ready for a pot of Chili. Probably spend the rest of the day searching for medical info.

The weather network is all in red, and they're predicting snow and freezing rain.

I was planning to stay in all day anyway, and have French onion in the slow cooker (I think Angelaid created a monster! We love it).

I'm also in the midst of making baked ziti and am going to make some bran muffins.
I've got some ham left over and am looking at some red lentil and ham soup recipes.

Edited to say that I forgot about the chicken that I have marinating in the frig. Lots to eat today and thru the week.

I am going to our downtown area to walk around the few shops that are open on Sunday~~esp the Antique store it is 3 levels lots to look at and I will eat lunch there, They have a yummy sandwich place downstairs. I do this when I want to veg by myself and listen to my Ipod and stop and read a bit;)

I've been putting away Christmas decorations. I'm also working on organizing some things - getting rid of too much email and doing some meal planning. I also put on a crock pot of Anglaid's French onion soup earlier. Jasdip, if you find any good lentil recipes please pass them on. I have some in the pantry but never seem to know the best way to cook them.

It's gray here but in the upper 60's. Tuesday's high is supposed to be 30! Glad there's no snow or ice forecast; people here don't know how to drive on either and we always end up with a lot of accidents.

Just finished breakfast, bacon, scrambled eggs and 3 kinds of pancakes. Plain for most of us...3 with mini chocolate chip for Kamren, and 3 blueberry for the hubby.

Almost have that all cleaned up.
Next will be organizing the fridge..I 've just been shoving things in there..and it is a mess.

Then when it warms up a bit..go to the garage and start filling up trash cans.

I will likely put some bread dough to work too..oh and cookies..it's back to work and school tomorrow..

I've been cleaning out drawers and baskets full of useless junk. Gotta get rid of stuff when the mood strikes, 'ya know! I have what seems like a zillion cords that I have know idea what they go to. Out they go. They've been laying around 4-5 years and I haven't used them.

Next is closets--then dressers. By Spring I should be finished.

Also have a lot of stuff for Interfaith's thrift shop. Back to purging!!! Need to jump in the shower and go to the grocery, too.

Well, it's -23ÃÂº right now, so ten degrees warmer than it was when I got up this morning. I've been taking the rest of the Christmas stuff down, and then think I will get the sewing machine out.......church quilting starts this week. We have a respite from Thanksgiving to New years.

Temp at 1:30pm a brisk minus 22 and wind blowing snow all over. Wish we had more snow for the installation. Warning everyone to stay inside due to icy roads and blowing. Wind chill probably in the 40-50 below and not expected to be better for a couple of days. All of you stay safe

DH woke up with a stomach virus, so went back up to bed. So I tiptoed around downstairs so as not to disturb him. Cleaned out the front coat closet, and organized my purse. He's feeling a little better so I made him some poached eggs for lunch. I had a ham sandwich, need to use up the leftover ham. My New Year's resolution (one of them) was to stop wasting food. Dinner will be hot roast beef sandwiches with leftover roast beef. Hope DH is up to eating tonight. Just vegging out now, watching old Law and Orders on TV, and playing with my laptop.

Welcome Tripletmom!!! Wow, Triplets! I think you'd better hang out here and tell us some of your stories! LOL

Kittiemom, I found this one of Emeril's that I'm going to make. I'm using leftover ham, so I'll do the recipe backwards, by cooking the veggies and lentils and adding the ham at the end. I'm also going to use the ham broth which I saved.
I made a red lentil soup a few months ago that was also delicious. For soups, I'd use red, as it cooks down creamy. Green lentils are more as a dish using veggies and meats, as they don't break down.

I made everything I had set out to do, and took these out of the oven about 15 minutes ago. Yum! Bran muffins using buttermilk (I use yogurt and milk which works perfectly), molasses, nuts and raisins.

They do tend to spread on the top and have to be cut apart, so they end up square. :D
