I was very touched by what you did in memory of your husband.

This year I put a few things in my stocking. I still do the stockings for my DD's who are 25 and 27. I think they like the surprises in the stocking more than the gifts.
I know people do criticize the amount of commercialism during the holidays, and I guess that is true for some. Since we have a very small family, I always wanted my daughters to have the excitement of Christmas morning and I know I would over buy. Getting out of the toy phase, the gifts became things they would get anyway throughout the year, just all at once for Christmas.

I didn't buy one special thing just for me, but did do some shopping for the house.

I bought table cloths for my table with all leaves, and every day runners plus one more formal. I'd only had space to use it with one and two additional leaves before and bought cloths for the three and four leaf lengths now that I can fully extend it if called for. An extra gravy boat and more serving trays. I picked up duplicate serving pieces to my flatware with an Oneida sale too. Three more water goblets, I found those I'd had for decades on Ebay and upped my 12 to 15. My dining room was nicely gifted ;)

I replaced my 6 qt Kitchenaid mixer with new the week of Thanksgiving. $60 off on sale and it had a $50 rebate too - enjoyed the savings there.

Yes, I gifted myself handsomely with a Canon Rebel DSLR camera which came with two lenses, case, battery and charger,
etc. Had my eye on this for a few years but price was prohibitive. Got the whole shebang for about half price.

No. I don't generally buy for myself for Christmas unless I need something and it is a great deal, like a computer. I do buy for myself for my birthday though. I have my eye on the new Fitbit that comes out in 2015. Not sure I'll have enough money saved up by then though so I may need to wait a bit.

Not for Christmas but Tuesday I'm getting my car cd/radio player replaced. The CD player hasn't worked in a year and a half or so. Also getting a tail light replaced. It's been broken at least 3 years. (the light still works but looks bad)

No, I never do. But I am on the lookout for Christmas dishes on clearance. Definitely not a must, but the set I have is old and dwindling in numbers, plus it's stoneware. It doesn't fit in the dishwasher very well and is heavy. I am very patient, I'll wait til I find a great deal!

I bought myself a Nextbook with win. 8.1 on it . It has a detachable keyboard and I can use it like my iPad. Love it. Also bought myself some diamond stud earrings plus a couple of rings. I think I did pretty well for myself!! :)

I don't recall you mentioning that you sew before but that seems like a really good buy. Did you actually buy it from Amazon... I need a new sewing machine...and or maybe I just want one...my machine has several things that just drive me nuts but it does still sew just fine... That looks like a good deal...

Ruthie, I was in the very same place. My present machine is only four years old, but has a couple of things that drive me nuts. My sewing projects were piling up because every time I thought about sitting down at that machine--to be driven nuts--I put the thought away. But because I didn't really need a new machine I was reluctant to buy one.

I actually started thinking about getting this new model before Christmas 2013. I don't know how many times I looked at the Amazon reviews, etc. Finally I was vacuuming one day recently when a little voice in my head said Just Do It. And I did. LOL

I sewed a lot when my kids were little. Not so much in recent years, but maybe the new machine will inspire me. Maybe you too, Ruthie!

I got myself a new purse on a FB flash sale, too good of a deal to pass up! Got new headphones on Black Friday sale, Dh wrapped them up for under the tree. Purse is great, headphones were returned, only one side worked.

I always buy my own Christmas present - Does that count? Then I put it on my DH's dresser for him to wrap up and put under the tree. This year it was a coat and purse. They were things that I wanted but really didn't need so couldn't justify buying them for myself. But as a Christmas gift from DH - why not.

I usually don't, but this yr I found some really cute boutique tops that I knew my hubby would never in a million yrs buy for me. So I picked a few out and sent pictures to him telling him Thank you!! Then I wrapped them up from him!

My son is usually at a loss as to what to get me for Christmas, so he waits for me to suggest something I would like. As a senior my needs are simple, so I often have to put my thinking on cap to come up with something, I bought my 1st brand new car about 1 1/2 yrs ago, a Honda CRV, and like to keep it as clean as possible. I take it to the self service car wash and find that the high pressure spray does a pretty good job and is pretty low impact on my aging body, but then I dry car when I get it home to prevent spotting. A few weeks before Christmas I saw an infomercial for the Worx Air, which is primarily a cordless leaf blower with attachments for inflating, blowing out the dust inside the car and the one I liked was a wide nozzle to blow the water off your freshly washed car. I was sold, so I copied and pasted the URL into an email, sent it to my son and told him that this is what I wanted for Christmas. He replied and told me that he had already bought my gift. I was disappointed, but I would love whatever he got me, he's my boy. Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather when I opened a 40" Smart TV on Christmas day. I had been thinking of getting one for a while, for just for the Smart feature, but I have a perfectly good 32" flat screen. The new 40" is a beauty, I love it, the LED 1080P picture is incredibly sharp, a big improvement over the 32" with 780P LCD. The end of the story is that since I didn't get the Worx from DS I ordered it for myself. I really hate to dry the car.

I don't know what it is, but things I need throughout the year I somehow put off...but when Christmas rolls around, I guess because I am more in shopping mode, I end up shopping for myself as well. This year I purchased sheets, towels, a purse and wallet. In addition, I purchased a Clarisonic and some other things for DH to wrap and give to me.

When I was only married for a couple of years, I was at a friend's house who was likewise only married for a short time. She was showing me what she got for Christmas - several things which she had bought herself. I was surprised - but her reasons made sense. When you're doing your Christmas shopping you see things which otherwise you wouldn't have, some things are only available this time of year, and the sale prices are the best!

This year i went to lots of stores looking for a dress scarf for my mother. It wasn't easy to find one perfect for her because she's tiny and wanted colors more appropriate for spring. While I was out and about I ended up buying two scarves at great prices for myself. Scarves help me mix and match and stretch my wardrobe.

After Christmas while out doing a few returns I bought myself a new pair of shoes and a new pair of sneakers.

Alisande, my daughter-in-law wanted a sewing machine and I recommended that one to my son and he bought it for her.
I did buy myself a gift-a Zojirushi bread machine. I am a widow and my husband would always buy me something nice when he was alive. This was my second Christmas without him. Last year I was in a fog but this year I decided he would want me to have a gift.

Haven't yet, but am going to get a new either red, or black hoodie and have my initials monogrammed on it.

Don't know why that occurred to me a few weeks ago, but I do want one! LOL

I made an Amazon wish list for my husband for Christmas, and he picked from there, so in a way I did!

I did get myself 12 new music CD's. All Bluegrass! I am in music heaven. Also bought 2 pair of very colorful socks at Hallmark of all places. 10 bucks a pair, but I love them. Love them so much that when a catalog came yesterday with the same socks in it at $7.95 each, I ordered 5 more pairs. You can check out these great socks on line at Worlds Softest Socks

I spoiled myself with card making supplies and stamps. My husband is handicapped and upset that he couldn't go into stores. I told him not to worry, I would do the shopping and now I have more toys to play.

Rose, I understand completely about your bread machine. Who knows . . . you may have had help picking it out.

I was very good to myself this Christmas. Lots of sales on fabrics...and I bought tons of it. I also bought a roll of batting--regularly $450; got it on sale 1/2 price, with free shipping.

DH got me a 55" Samsung Smart TV, with a soundbar. It's very nice. (I bought it and told him it was his gift to me.) I also bought myself a bunch of other little gifts that were on sale.

I buy stuff I want year round, but at Xmas time I rationalize my expensive purchases by saying:
"Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday to me".
I just went overboard buying 6 golf clubs and
a laptop.

I hope you will love your new sewing machine. My son bought me a new Singer about like the one you bought and I love it.. It is a Quilter and has a 100 stitches. My favorite thing is the auto threader.. We do buy each other things at holiday time. My hubby gets our daughters to help him. They do a great job. I can always come up with things for him... Honestly, I don't care to get anything. I would rather they get the kids things..to me, it is all about the kids!!

I saw a pair of earrings in an antique shop and decided to treat myself for Christmas. They are handmade in Bali, tanzanite and iolite. Very pretty. I love them.

I broke down and progressed to a Smart phone. We've always had a flip phone as we use a cell so seldom, it was all we needed.

Bought it when there was a No Tax day, so saved 13% right off the bat.
Trouble is, I'm intimidated as heck by it!! When I get a new laptop I can't wait to fire it up and get going, but this cell phone? I don't know what the heck I'm doing, so it's just sitting there. I need to find someone who'll walk me through it. It's an Android and one of the things I did was register my Gmail address. Mistake. I never ever use it, it's just an email address to register at websites. And of course, you can't sign out of it, because Google is Android. Grrrr. That's one major thing that upsets me. So the phone is just sitting on the table as a paperweight.

Hubby and I were out shopping and a scarf caught my eye and he bought it. I also saw some earrings on Kijiji (new) and sent him the link. He got the hint LOL

Jasdip, you should be able to delete the gmail account from the phone.

No matter how many things I put on my Christmas wish list, my husband always buys everything on it. So, I have learned to be careful to not go overboard. One thing I really wanted (but didn't add to the already-extesive list so I bought it for myself) is a Coach "Retro Glove Tan Leather" Borough Bag in the Camel color. I will carry it for a long time, so I will get my money's worth out of it. And it has two open sections and three zippered sections, so I am totally organized.
